What To Do On Holidays In The Summer In New England

Fun New England day trips with kids?

I’m in central Massachusetts and I want to start planning my summer with the kids. There’s 4 of them aged 13 & 12 and I’m looking for inexpensive fun day trips. We’ve done the cape, we have family there so it’s nothing special for us and let’s face it, it could take 2 days just to get through traffic and over one of the bridges.
Last summer we did the white mountains and plan on going back but what else that doesn’t require over night hotels??

Why is the longest holiday in colleges in England the summer holiday and not the New Year’s holiday, considering New Year’s Day is a international special event?

Answering for America, instead of EnglandWhich would you rather do? Go to the beach in winter, or do it during summer? Summer is a time of year for getting out and doing things, seeing places and being seen at places. It’s warm and comfortable to many, and in further northern areas, the summer break allows one’s family to do necessary hunting that will allow them to survive the coming winter.

Summer in New England is very short. What do you suggest doing for a memorable fun?

New England summer may be short, but you`ll wish it was shorter- it gets brutally hot and humid, particularly in July and again at the end of August-beginning of September. With that said, you may be able to cool off on the Cape, which has tons of nice and popular beaches and summer communities. You could also go up north to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, which is just below the White Mountains and has great opportunities for boating, swimming, and even hiking if the heat isn`t too bad. Anywhere along the Maine coast might provide a respite too. These are all great places to spend a week.

How far north, into New England, do Orioles come in the summer?

Baltimore Orioles can be found in most of New England, although they appear to get a bit scarce in the northern half of Maine. But I have a distinct memory of seeing a Baltimore Oriole fly across a road in Soldier Pond, Aroostook County, Maine, when I was probably about 12 years old. (My memory could very well be faulty, though.)Here is the eBird range map for Baltimore Oriole in New England:The light pink rectangles have only one or a few reported sightings, and the darker rectangles have more. One thing to keep in mind is that these are sightings submitted by eBird users. The scarcity of reports in northern Maine might to some extent reflect a lack of eBird users, not a lack of birds.

What is the weather like in New England?

You just asked this in the Australia section. LOL...I'll answer it anyway.

Weather patterns vary throughout the region. Most of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont have a humid continental short summer climate, with mild summers and cold winters.

Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Southern New Hampshire and Vermont, and Coastal Maine have a humid continental long summer climate, with warm summers and cold winters.

Owing to thick deciduous forests, fall in New England brings bright and colorful foliage, which comes earlier than in other regions, attracting tourism by 'leaf peepers'. Springs are generally wet and cloudy.

Average rainfall generally ranges from 1,000 to 1,500 mm (40 to 60 in) a year, although the northern parts of Vermont and Maine see slightly less, from 500 to 1,000 mm (20 to 40 in). Snowfall can often exceed 2,500 mm (98 in) annually. As a result, the mountains and ski resorts of Vermont and New Hampshire are popular destinations in the winter.

The lowest recorded temperature in New England was −50 °F (−46 °C) at Bloomfield, Vermont, on December 30, 1933. This was tied by Big Black River, Maine in 2009.

How do people dress in New England?

My dad's family live up in Rhode Island (I live in Texas). My dad's family is well-off and would vacation in Hyannis Port - my grandma being wealthier vacationed in Martha's Vineyard and had a summer home in Cape Cod. I haven't been there in 3 or 4 years. I've always dressed how I would dress in Texas. As I got older I now have this image of New England as "preppy" or conservative. I'm curious how I should dress to seem like one of the locals. Should I dress in a tee shirt (some Celtics and Patriots), skinny jeans, and Converses, with a Red Sox cap, like I usually do, or should I dress in polo pants, khakis, Brooks Brothers, Vineyard Vines, and Ray Bans?

What did the New England Confederation do?

I'm going to be a sophmore, and its for AP US history; we were given homework over the summer.

The question was what MILITARY action did the New England Confederation do?

Its not in the book. There's only a half a page on the New England Confederation, and you wouldn't believe how many times I read it. I also checked the index for other references.
