What To Do When You Are Overwhelmed

What to do when you feel overwhelmed at school?

I am a junior at high school and I am taking very hard classes. I haven t felt this scared about school before and the way my math teacher teaches does not help. I am the type of person that blacks out when I m called on in class and he lives to call on me and it makes me look like an idiot. What can I do to not feel sad and overwhelmed?

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed by a task?

I agree with Alexi's approach.  Deep breathing is a very useful tool for managing feelings overwhelm, worry and anxiety, and contributes to your health in other ways too.If what is overwhelming you consists of a single project, think about how to break it down into smaller components, and tackle one piece of it.If you are overwhelmed by a circumstance (a relationship, or an illness, as examples), try to identify one small thing you could do to improve the circumstance, such as:talk to someone about itgive yourself permission to take a mental vacation from it for some period of time (5 minutes to 24 hours depending on the situation) so you can come back to it with a fresh perspectivePerspective can be an important factor when you are feeling overwhelmed.  Sometimes, we see things as being more negative or challenging then they really are - we "make mountains out of molehills", as the saying goes.  I find these questions are helpful to clear my head and get a reality check:     How am I feeling right now?Where did this feeling come from?Is my perception of this situation the truth? What types of responses or actions could I make? What would it feel like to make these responses/actions?

What do you do when you are overwhelmed with pain?

I am sharing my personal experience.Whenever I fing myself in pain(mentally)I start wrinting everythought of that current situation in my personal diary.or I start to Play My guitar and play some own made tunes for hours.or go for a walk or go outside where you can listen your heart alone.i dont like to share my pain to my friends that is my personal opinionbecause no one cant know and understand better than yourself.or I Lock myself in a room and stand in front of mirrior and start talking verbly to my inverted image. and i have seen my self criying infront of mirror and i look horrible. You know why I cant share my internal feelings to someone?? wheather its my Girl Best friend or my Brother Like buddies.because i will start crying and they will say “ladke rote nahi hai(Boys dont cry)i had shared my feeling to my Girl best friend long ago and she said i dont like people who cry. from that day i stopped sharing my deep thoughts to anyone and now i heal myself up. You can better take care of yourself. All you have to do Sit alone and talk to your self if you wanna cry, Cry.Do not Eat. i repeat Do not Eat in Depression try some other method.Other method does not mean smoking, drinking, drugs. You Can Have Sex if you have Wife, or if you HAve really wife like girlfriend.but do not go in Red light for sex.Sex will release good hormon and will work as depression buster. and than you can decide what to do.I havent tried the last option because i dont have neither wife nor girlfriend.I can meditate myself with rest of the option.————————————————————————————————————-All above points are my personal Views and i am not an expert i had shared what i feel and what i do when i fall on that perticular situation.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed by your projects? How do you not get overwhelmed by your projects?

Most people overestimate what they can do in a day and underestimate what they can do in a month.Catching one rabbit is far better than chasing 6 of them and not catching any.Our goals are the same.If we set out to achieve too many of them at once, we'll end up achieving none of them.As the cliché goes,"You can have it all. Just not all at once.” – Oprah WinfreySo what to do instead?Pick 1-3 most important tasks for the day and focus on completing only those tasks. This way you'll have a clarity about what to do and focus on doing the work instead of being overwhelmed by it.Schedule "play" time throughout the day. It like scheduling a cheat day every week where you can have anything you want. Knowing that you can do browse through your social media and watch YouTube videos later in the day helps you concentrate on the task at hand and feel less anxious.Meditate first thing in the morning. No matter how "Woo-Woo" it seems, meditating just for 10 mins in the morning will help you start your day with calmness and remain focused throughout the day.Write down what you want to accomplish and do today the night before. This way, you don't have to think about what you need to do today because you already have it written down.Block two 3 hour blocks of time just for doing deep work. No distraction allowed during those period of time. No emails, no phones, no internet. Only deep work.

I'm young, but why do I feel so overwhelmed?

You're just stressed. I've found some herbal remedies and vitamins can help (just google natural stress relief herbs etc)

College isn't a waste of time but you need to pick a major that you actually like that will make you money. Here's a tip, any major that is easy, pays crap. Education/psychology/art/political science/ sociology/ communications/ journalism / marketing are BAD things to major in. All my friends that received degrees in those majors had to go back to school and choose something completely different.

Science/Engineering and math majors are the only 4 year degrees that pay well. (unless you go into nursing).

PS: don't neglect your health in college. Once you settle down with a degree and a job and you look around for a husband, looks are important. If you want an educated, professional husband, you can't be overweight.

Business degrees are good but here's some more http://www.becomecareer.com/highest-payi...
Anything with liberal arts degrees start paying well after a PHD or masters though.

What do you do when you are overwhelmed by the study material you have to study for an exam?

Well, for every test and exam preparation, one shouldn't be (ideally) overwhelmed by the study material(s) if the person prepared earlier. So, in your case, you just have to TAKE A BREAK and then split your study into bits whenever you decide to resume at your desk. When you plan ahead and keep up with your courseworks, you won't have a cause to be anxious about the exam or suffer an overload of information. You need to create a feasible routine for your academics and key into the time schedule from the beginning of the session. You should also remember that your time budget should have a space for fun and learning other new skills (as that brings out the beauty of an all-round development). You've got 24 hours in a day, so why don't you utilize them in a sensible way? A healthy cognitive deveopment evolves as a result of adopting effective learning strategies and habits throughout one’s lifetime. So your habits can either make or mar your cognitive development.Early Preparation is paramount!

What is the best thing to do when feeling overwhelmed?

The moment you realize, “God dammit, I feel overwhelmed!” is the moment that you should stop what you’re doing and take a deep breath in…and then a deep breath out. Then another. And one more. Then, you say to yourself, “Ok, I’m overwhelmed. What’s the next step?”And then you do the next step.THEN, you say to yourself again, “Ok, NOW what’s the next step?”And then you do the next step.Do you see a pattern? The only thing you need to worry about when you feel overwhelmed is the next step, because realistically, you can’t do a hundred things at once…you can only do one.You might feel like you need to do a hundred things all at once (which is exactly why you’re overwhelmed), but you don’t have to, and you shouldn’t expect yourself to. I mean, you physically can’t.My favorite “next step” to do when I’m feeling overwhelmed is the dishes. I might be at home struggling with any number of work, personal or relationship problems, and then suddenly I’ll feel overwhelmed. The moment I hit the breaking point is the moment I get up and say “fuck it, time to do the dishes.”No matter what’s going on in my head, there’s no reason I can’t just get up and do the dishes. It’s a simple, short task that re-calibrates my brain — it gives me an instant win and a shot of “feel good.”Suddenly, I feel slightly less overwhelmed. Then, I move onto the next step.Maybe that’s finishing an engineering drawing that I promised I’d have done that day.Boom, done. Before long, I’ve knocked out 3 or 4 “next steps,” I have fewer things on my plate, and I’m feeling significantly less overwhelmed.Win. Win. Win.The awesome thing about this “next step” technique is that it is always and only just one thing. And anyone can do just one thing.

What to do when girlfriend says she's overwhelmed?

Were both 18 just graduated hs. We've been together for about a month and were talking for a month before that. Things were going well I could tell she likes me a lot.
But yesterday she text me saying how much she likes me but since she hasn't been in a relationship for a LONG time she's starting to feel overwhelmed. So I called her and talked to her about it and we're still together but agreed to slow down and just hang with our friends for the next couple days.
Did I do the right thing? I told her I understand cause relationships can be alot.
Is this the real problem or do you think she might be losing interest? What should I do? And how often should I text/call her? We normally text periodically through the day and talk on the phone once every 2 or 3 days.

What to do when you're overwhelmed with homework?

The best thing is to sit down in a quiet place or have your music on if you like to multitask. I know how this feels, I take 3 AP courses plus i have a job that takes a lot of my time. Don't feel frustrated, trust me just make a list of all you have to do, begin with the easiest first or the hardest whatever makes you more comfortable and set a specific time to finish. For example give yourself an hour to finish the math, work 45 minutes on the term papers, leave the studying for last and so on. Then you can check off your list whatever you get done and also don't forget to treat yourself. Reward yourself by eating a cookie after finishing an assigment or whatever you feel or maybe a 5 minute break. Now get off from here and get down to business ;)
