What Type Of Contact Lenses Should I Get

Contact Lense help??

What power should I get my contact lenses?

if you don't wear glasses then you should get contact lenses with no power at all. Your vision does not need correcting, so you do not want to correct it. However the curvature needs to be determined by an optician.

I would suggest you have your eyes checked - that is never a bad idea - and you discuss this question with the optician.

depends what type of colored lenses you get, it might not be noticeable. I've tried the acuvue colored lenses once for fun since I wear prescription contact lenses anyway, and for the hell of it I only wore one colored one and pretty much nobody noticed.

How much do GP contact lenses cost?

I want to buy contact lenses in that I can keep in for a few days at a time and overnight from Cosco. How much do these typically cost?

Also, what type of contact lenses are cheap, but easy to maintain? Is it cheaper to buy disposable ones, for instance?

Should I get contact lenses?

Hey salsey!

Glasses are waaaayy more comfortable than contact lenses. I wear glasses everyday, and only wear contact lenses occasionally, like in prom, when I perform, or in other events when I want to appear formal and pretty.

I wear Focus dailies, and I think its better if you wear the dailies ones because its fresh, and you don't have to worry about losing it or dirtying it because you can always get a new one from the pack. You need to be extra hygienic when dealing with monthly contact lenses. Dirty contact lenses is the worst thing you can give to your eyes. And you NEVER sleep with your contacts on, They shouldn't be on for long periods of time.

Pluses of contact lenses:
-They make you feel prettier

- You get a very clear image of what's around you. You know our glasses gets dirty with smudge of fingerprints and dust and stuff. It's pretty awesome seeing the world using contact lenses

-When you want to be active, like playing sports, its much better for you to wear contacts rather than glasses

Minuses of contact lenses
-They are quite tricky to wear at first. But you get used to it eventually. My suggestion is to do it in front of a mirror to make sure you put it in your pupils, and use your fingers keep your eyelids open

-You don't wear them all day. When I wear contacts, I put them out in the evening because it gets really annoying eventually.

-If your contact lenses fall accidentally, you have almost no hope of putting it back in. Rinsing it with tap water isn't enough, it will still irritate your eyes and tear you up a little. That's why you should always carry your glasses everywhere just in case.

Are there some kind of contact lenses that I can wear to sleep without removing them and they are also colorful? Blue, green, black etc?

There are lenses that are FDA approved for overnight wear. One of these is Air Optix. Clear Air Optix lenses are approved for up to six nights of continuous wear. Air Optix lenses are also available in colors. The colored lenses do not have FDA approval for overnight wear. It is a bit unclear whether they are less suitable for overnight wear or if so few are sold that the expense of getting them approved was not worth it. There are no other readily available colored contacts that you should even think of sleeping in.

Contact lens question - is this true?

Yep, that's tue. The way it works in the US is that the Dr. writes the brand and parameters on the prescriprtion, then you are stuck with that whether it works or not. Even if you go shopping with your Rx, no one is allowed to change the brand or parameters unless the Dr. changes it himself.

If he won't listen to you or even let you try other brands, you will have to change Dr's and start all over again.

In Canada, the Dr.s don't prescribe the brand or parameters, so you can go to any optician and be fitted with whatever works for you. Opticians will do all the same measurements and are just as qualified at fitting contacts.

I think that is a big flaw in the US system that limits patients to what that one Dr. happens to prefer as a brand.

Shannon feels that the patient has to do the research first...I don't agree with that. That is what the contact lens fitter is supposed to know.
No matter how many stories and praises you hear about a certain brand, it may not work for you . All your research could be wasted time if the brand you want doesn't fit right.

If you are not happy with what you have, the contact lens fitter should be trying to find a solution for you by trying another brand at least.

Do contact lenses get thinner as you wear them more?

No, contacts do not get thinner. However, they do aquire nasty protein buildup. Also, Acuvue are bi-weekly lenses, meaning you have to change pairs every two weeks! They are not extended wear. If you want a lens that you don't have to change that often, talk to your optometrist and try a different brand. There are many types of contacts that you can wear safely for up to a month (they do tend to cost a bit more) or longer depending on the brand.
