What Wars Were Unnecessary

I NEED EXAMPLES OF WARS THAT WERE NECESSARY/UNNECESSARY?????????...

i'm a sophomroe in high school, and i am writing an essay on my view on war. i am saying that i believe war should be the last resort.

so i need examples of wars that were absolutely necessary OR absolutely unnecessary and WHY! i have one example, which is World War II which was necessary

How was the Vietnam war an unnecessary war?

Ho Chi Mein, the leader of Vietnam was an ally of the US during WW II. Although an avowed Communist, he fought the Japanese and gave support to the US. Prior to WW II, Indochina was a French Colony. This was the name of Vietnam prior to 1950.

Following the end of hostilities, Ho was alleged to have approached the US to help it keep the French from reestablishing itself as a colony, the US refused to help. Ho decided to go it alone, probably with the help of China, a neighbor and fellow Communist Country. In 1954 the Vietnam forces defeated the French at Dien Bien Phu.

At this point, and for whatever reason, Eisenhower started sending advisors to Vietnam to help the anti-Communist fighters in the south. Knowing the mindset at the time, stopping the expansion of Communism was #1 priority for the US. In reality, all Ho was looking for was independence for his people, much the same as the founding fathers in the Colonies, during the Revolution.

Johnson, with his tunnel vision, and his thirst for war, didn't see the total picture. The rest is history.

To say the war was unwinnable is not exactly true. The TET offensive was very costly to the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese. Estimates are that they lost 80,000 troops during this offensive and were on their knees, ready to surrender. This is when Johnson himself decided to capitulate and take the war ro peace tables in Paris, instead.

Obviously, Johnson had the instincts of a lemming as commander in chief and the fortitude of a shameless coward !

Why was World War 1 unnecessary?

The powers of Austro-Hungary could have simply launched a legal case against Gavrilo Princip and the Black Hand Society of Serbia, rather than a military one, and avoided making ridiculous demands on the entire nation of Serbian people, the majority of whom had no part in the crime of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. Although this argument would have seemed ridiculous at the time, it is a logical idea now, and the correct way to punish a crime that involved individuals, and not an entire nation. Remember in 1914, the European countries (especially Austro-Hungary and Germany) assumed they had reached the highest level of civilisation, and that they administered their nations on concepts of law and order, even going so far as to update the Geneva Convention in 1906, therefore the assassination should have been treated as a crime and not a cause for war.

World War 1 has often been described as an unnecessary war. Why?

Had the Germans not given the "green light" to Austria-Hungary, or the Kaiser had not decided to take a mini-vacation, the whole mess might well have been avoided.

* Austria-Hungary was anxious to go to war with Serbia in order to stop its incitement of her Slav population. Thus when the Archduke was assassinated, she used the incident to lobby Germany for permission to mount a punitive action against Serbia. – The Kaiser, assuming the action would merely be a limited punitive expedition, gave his permission and promptly took off on an “mini vacation”. … Austria-Hungary then took his action as “carte blanche” and mounted a full scale war on Serbia (assuming a quick victory). … The German high command became aware of this action, but hesitated informing the Kaiser (assuming the best). – The Kaiser was well aware that a full-out attack on Serbia would force the Russians to intervene, and had he been informed of the Austria-Hungary’s true intent, I’m sure that he would have rescinded his permission.

Which battles of the war of five kings were unnecessary?

Every single one of them involving the Lannisters, Tullys and Starks. Tywin attacked the Riverlands because Catelyn, who is technically not even a Tully anymore, took Tyrion. The Tullys just fought back. Robb went to war because Joffrey killed Ned, without that war isnt a certainty. The moment Ned died, blood was going to be shed. Most of the battles during the war could have easily been avoided. In those two instances the Lannisters simply picked fights. The Battle of the Blackwater however was going to happen no matter what. The Lannisters did nothing to instigate that one. As long as Cersei's kids had the throne Stannis was going to try and take it. But it still wasn't necessary. Maybe a different word would better reflect it.

Were many of America's wars unnecessary or even harmful to our country? Spanish-American War, Vietnam, Iraq, Mexican War, War of 1812?

I believe thatthe Revolution was necessary to break away from England and establish the country. The War of 1812 was necessary to force Britain to evacuate forts that it maintained on US soil in defiance of the Treaty of Paris and to show them that the US, although militarily weak at the time, was not going to allow another country to bully it.The Mexican War to resolve the border issues with Mexico concerning Texas as well as end the Texas annexation issue with Mexico (Britain was trying to align the Republic of Texas in its sphere of influence, prior to annexation). The benefit to the USA was an expansion of the US and it becoming a continental power and it taking control of territory that later on, proved to be resource rich and fertile for farming. The “harmful” aspect was that later, when it became unfashionable for nations to go to war to annex territory, the US is now “the bad guy”.The Civil War had to be fought or the US would have turned into a small, marginal power, militarily and economically. The Spanish-American War was a perfect example of the American people wanting to help another nation, and the American government wanting exploit another nation(s).WWI, well, maybe our survival as a nation wasn’t threatened, should the Central Powers have won, history may be much different for the US later on.WWII, there was no doubt that that war had to be fought.Other than that, the rest, especially as of late, are harmful to the USA and simply a waste of brave American and allied lives.

Reasons why the Iraq war was completely unnecessary?

In 1991 it was a well known fact Iraq had chemical weapons but Saddam never used them- the most logical reaon for that would be- that he expected doing so would result in his army getting nuked and possibly the Arabs screaming that he got removed. In short Sadam may have been evil but he was not insane.
Frankly I believed based on 1991- that removing him would have resulted in him giving out chemicals to terrorist as he'd have nothing to loose.
