What Was The First Video Game To Let Players Create There Own Charachter

If you could become any video game character ever created in real life, who would you be and why?

Without a doubt master chief.

Alien invasion getting you down? No problem just whip out your plasma sword (name a cooler thing this side of a lightsaber?) and slice em up?

Hit by a few bullets, A rocket? A bus? No problem just find some cover and your handy dandy armor will recover your life and your energy in a flash.

Your ride to work ho hum? No problem, hope in a warthog with a friend mounted on the back and give new meaning to the term "commute"

plus on top of all that, you get an amazing theme song with monks chanting to chronicle your every awesome move.

who wouldn't want to be master chief?

Are there any PS3 games where you can create a character?

RPG
Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion(Lots of character customization and tons of armors clothes magic and weapons to choose from)
Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim(Sequel to Oblivion, newer graphics and features such as dual wielding swords and spells. Not as much customization as Oblivion but the characters look better.)
Fallout 3(Futuristic shooter/rpg with a great customization and story)
Fallout new vegas(Like Fallout 3 but different story and some new features such as disguises)

Modern shooter
Saints Row(Havent personally played it but I hear its great. You play as a gang member that fights other gangs)
Saints Row 2(Sequel to Saints Row. Great game, played it over and over. Crazy character creation and lots of clothes to wear and cars to customize. Fun game, like GTA but funnier.)
Saints Row the Third(Latest Saints Row game. Better graphics and more character customization.)

Fighting
Soul Calibur 4(Great character creator and lots of fighting styles to choose from)
Soul Calibur 5(I have this game and the character creation is crazy, you can add tattoos, wings, horns, tails. I prefer this character creator over SC4s.)

No character creation in an RPG, is that a dealbreaker?

The answer depends on whether you’re asking about a computer/video game RPG, or a tabletop RPG.Computer/video game RPGs:No problem at all. Two of the best RPGs of all time, Chrono Trigger and Witcher 3: the Wild Hunt, have zero character creation. You always play as the same characters, with the same backstories, the same appearance, and the same basic abilities. Geralt remains Geralt, while Chrono let’s you change his name, but nothing else about him. Both games are great, because they tell a well constructed story with a set cast, well crafted backstories, and interesting interactions. You can make choices during your journey, and those choices will change the outcome of the game, but they will never turn Geralt or Ciri or Chrono or Lucca into a different person. These games shine because the stories you step into a well made, and compelling. They give you a cast, and you experience the story the game designers want you to experience.Tabletop RPGs:100% a gamebreaker for me and for many gamers. Unlike Computer/video game RPGs, tabletop RPGs come with the inherent promise that you create and control your own character. You decide their gender, their past, their abilities, etc. You make them, and they are your character, at a fundamental level that is not true with set cast RPGs.The draw of Tabletop gaming is that you can make whatever kind of character you want, and play them how you want. These games shine because you have control over the story. They shine by letting you be the character you want to be, with as few limitations as possible within the system.Take away that ability to craft your own character, who is different in fundamental and meaningful ways from other characters, and you lose the core magic of the tabletop RPG gaming experience.
