What Will Replace Text Messaging

What will replace texting?

What do you mean by texting ?the Short Message Service (SMS) service ?If yes, then it will eventually be replaced by what would be an messaging service provided by some app over internet... oh wait.. that is whatsapp ..and its clones.. though not being able to cover 100% of the mobile population yet. These guys just need to make another tech / design jump, which will happen one way or the other. My guess is google will build it into their android system, killing the competition of whatsapp in a go, making it a core smarphone os feature, not requiring any additional installations. This would eventually reduce telecom operators to mobile tower businesses providing just the infrastructure which runs the internet and charging for it in different slabs based on speed and volume of usage. No doubt, telecom operators would fight tooth and nail against.Just one scenario which imo is highly probable.

Will anything replace texting?

Yes. Messaging.Texting is short messages for immediate communication. That function will always be required. The means that is done will change. First it was letters through the mail. Then faster with telegraphs. Then with voice over the phone. Then mobile phones. Then telegraph over mobile (called “texting”) and messaging apps on computer only, both coming about at about the same time (the first computer messaging apps pre-dating texting, the popular ones coming on mobile phones after texting was popular). So “messaging” has already replaced texting. Texting requires a separate texting plan, and is limited in range (costs for roaming/international texting is higher). But messenger apps are global with no additional cost, and are real-time and interactive, which “text” doesn’t include by default. The replacements are already here, but were so subtle that most iDevice users don’t realize that many (most?) of their “text” messages are actually messenger messages, bypassing the “text” function.

Will SMS/MMS text messages ever be replaced by apps like FB Messenger, WhatsApp, etc?

Aren’t they already replaced? We have to assume, that SMS are used only when you answer your grand dad or have no internet connection. Messengers are cheaper, deal with larger amounts of info, documents, audio and video files, enable to delete and edit messages as we as to create group chats. The real question is, when messengers will replace social nets?

Is RCS going to replace SMS by 2025 as the dominant text-message system?

I very much doubt it’ll entirely replace SMS messaging - just remember, it’s pretty much a reiteration of SMS - it’s even been dubbed as SMS 2.0 so it’ll pretty much be more of an evolution that a complete replacement. Here’s a great article on the current state of SMS and RCS messaging and what we can expect in the future.Hope this helps :)

What will replace texting and calling in the future?

Direct network connections using a variety of protocols down selected for reach particular need.  Really, the only thing revolutionary in this is the direct connection.  We already select or protocols.  Need to negotiate a deal?  You will likely choose a protocol like face to face speech or VTC, so you can include nonverbal cues in the communication.  Need a specific piece of information from a specific person rather quickly?  SMS is highly efficient at that.  Need to satisfy a social need like maintaining family connections over great distance?  Probably phone.  Need to network with billions of other people or things almost instantaneously?  Go TCP/IP.Right now, all of those are human interfaces, except the last one, and they all require a physical interface among the minds involved.  Fingers, ears, eyes, mouths.  What if we could cut out the middlemen?

What does :D mean in text messaging?
