Your own values and intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and succeed. If the dog is vicious and/or growling, then it signifies some inner conflict within you. It may indicate betrayal and untrustworthiness. If the dog is dead or dying, then it indicates a loss of a good friend. Alternatively, it represents a deterioration of your instincts. What would you do if a rabid animal chased you?

First of all, with an animal like that, running will NOT save you, unless, of course, an escape is very near by. Running can only get you bitten on the ankle.

The best thing to do is face it, and arm yourself with something, anything, that can ward him off. A long broom handle is good, or a baseball bat, or a big branch. Throwing rocks at him is good. Calling for help at the same time is a good idea too.

Looking him straight in the eyes and approaching him while yelling or growling, may just intimidate him and make him realize YOU are the dangerous one and he better leave you alone.

BTW - Just because it is foaming at the mouth, does not mean it has Rabies. It could just be a mean dog, that's all.

Will a raccoon chase me?

Possibly. But not that one. Yet. As the raccoons become used to being in close proximity to humans without being chased injured etc. they lose their fear of us. We are destroying their natural habitat by building our own where they once lived, They are extremely adaptable. Our garbage, the pets left overs and our crops are easy pickings. They'll gladly take up residence in our garages, sheds and even our houses if allowed. Usually they will quickly back away.

Once they lose their fear of humans and find that we will back off they become more brazen. A defensive posture is usually a crouching protective one. They'll bare their teeth and hiss and make other noises to back you off. A semi tamed one will often stand up and look for a hand out if its been fed that way. If not it doesn't take long for them to be trained to take things out of hand. Don't think for a second you can touch or try to pick it up. You'll have become a threat and will be dealt with as such.
Sick ones are another story. They may not act afraid. But they are totally unreliable to be around. They have no qualms about attacking.
Their dropping are much more dangerous for the pathogens they carry.
If you are bitten and can't kill or capture it, consider it has rabies and get the shots. Watch the animal it will let you know if it is going to attack or not. Leave you self enough space and time to exit safely. Don't crowd. It was probably curious to see if you were foraging or going to leave out some scraps for him to look through when you left the area.

Do rats ever chase people?

Rats are consummate survivors and it wouldn’t make much sense for them to chase a much larger animal - and that’s really all we are. Rats are also quite intelligent and they learn that we are dangerous to them, so that’s another reason to avoid us.But in some cases a rat might feel as if it had no choice. If you trap an animal so it has no other means of escape, then it may charge at you to try to get away. It’s not chasing you, just trying to escape. If a rat were truly starving, and you had food; there’s some chance it might follow the scent of food, which would mean following you. But I very much doubt any healthy rat would chase a human if it had a choice. In the case of rabies though, animals behave abnormally, often as if they have no fear of us at all.If a wild animal does approach you, especially if they don’t appear to be afraid of you, then you should get away, quickly as you can.You really do not want to be bitten by a rabid animal. The treatment is not much fun and if they can’t catch and examine the animal that bit a human, then having the treatment is essential to prevent the chance you’d get rabies, which is always fatal.

What does dreaming of a rabid dog mean?

Dear Anonymous,Thank you for asking. Such an intriguing dream. Dogs symbolize, for one thing, unconditional love and loyalty. You had in waking life a dog like this, and I’m sure he/she was very important to you, very special.Since everything in dreams relates to a part of ourselves or fearful memories, the rabid dog symbolizes either: When you have attacked yourself, when you have berated, belittled, or had even worse thoughts about yourself. More likely, or behind those feelings, is that you’ve had a long-passed experience with someone who treated you very badly.Someone was NOT unconditional or loyal; maybe you’ve extended that out. Maybe sometimes you’ve been very angry inside. So either you, or someone(s), are really losing the ability to be so dangerous to your psyche. You wanted to punch it, but it has no teeth - no more ability to attack/make you lose blood (life force!).The dream heals even if you don’t act on it or completely understand. It contributes to the healing of your emotions/psyche. Let it go. No, you no longer have your protective, loyal pet anymore, so you’ll have to do this on your own. Forgive yourself and whoever else you might be healing from. Blessed be!

Can a rabid bat stay on a tree and drool on passers-by?

Bats don't have a habit of drooling, and even a rabid bat, its saliva would not pass pathogens unless subjected to the blood stream, such as with a bite.
Rabies in bats is quite rare, but where outbreaks happen, it is because a number of bats in a colony can become infected.
Now if you find a bat in an unusual place and it doesn't seem right, leave the bat alone.
Bats getting indoors is not uncommon, and no, they are not seeking someone to bite.
They come in by accident.
Now I had LOTS of bats around, roosting in the attic and trees out back. Often indoors, getting tangled in drapes. Just a matter of untangling them and tossing them out the door. Now if you find a bat inside, you can wrap it with a small towel, take it outside and get it to hang in the towel. They will take flight or you can pin the towel to something like a clothesline and the bat will eventually leave.
Don't handle bats with your bare hands, especially if you are not familiar with them, use gloves or the towel method.
Now having been in a big bat cave with hundreds of bats, the best I can say is I have never seen a rabid bat in my life. We even relocated our attic bats to a bat house made in the back of a small green house.
If you are concerned about bats in your area and rabies, you can call your local wildlife office, and they can tell you of any cases in your county and animals that show positive for the virus.
In 20 years, only a few prairie dogs have shown rabies, and that is long under control.
My proudest achievement is rescuing a couple baby bats, so I am a bit familiar with them.
Not a chiropterologist, but studied bats a bit.
