What is your favorite blues song?

This is certainly impossible to answer but I’ll give it a try with a bit of a surprise.I have been thinking of this song lately so I’m happy for a question that will afford me the chance to trot it out.Van Morrison “Help Me”“Bring me my nightshirtPut on your morning gownI don’t feel tired IJust feel like lyin’ down”It’s a great lyric. It’s a Sonny Boy Williamson song that’s about all I know.So this is the first time I’m hearing the original.Okay, the original wouldn’t be the song I would choose so I’m glad the Van Man covered it and geez, there are just so many blues songs that are great I have to go with his cover on this one. It’s my favorite song on what is a classic album filled with great songs.

What is your favorite Moody Blues song?

While they are a band with some very big hits, like Nights In White Satin, things that have been seriously overplayed tend to bore me, even if I like them. For me, when I think of the songs of theirs I like, this one comes to mind first:While Gemini Dreams may have been a hit for them, it wasn’t a huge hit, nor did it get seriously overplayed. It was part of their updated 1980s sound, which left them sounding a bit like ELO, or an updated Beatles, as ELO often sounded like. While the drumming is a bit cheesy, I love the Jeff Lynne like production which makes this song all the more special.Probably my next fave would be this one:Your Wildest Dreams is one of those heartfelt songs about time and music, and emotions, and while generally speaking I find this sort of fluff to be useless, this one hit all the right chords, even for someone like me. Thinking back on music, the world, and girls, the music video helped to bring those thoughts together and make a memorable song. One of their 3 top 10 hits, although it was pretty popular it does not get the repeat play of Nights In White Satin. While I was going to put I Know You’re Out There Somewhere in this as well, a relistening made me feel like it is a bit on the boring side, though the video does follow up Your Wildest Dreams as a story. But I cannot list this one as above the others I may not know as well, yet. Maybe one day I will spend more time with this band!

What is your favorite blues band?

I don't have a single favourite Blues Band. I listen to various musical styles, bands and individuals. The current list includes Joe Bonamassa, Robert Cray, The Trucks Tedeschi Band. I also listen to Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, various versions of The Allman Brothers Band, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Eric Clapton with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, SRV. Players like Joe Bonamassa are keeping it current, but I also listen to the older generation of blues artists like Muddy Waters, James Cotton, T-Bone Walker, Etta James, John Lee Hooker, BB King, the father of Rock and Roll, Chuck Berry. The list is endless.
