When A Film Show Or Book Is Based On A Real Life Experience What Does It Mean When They Say

Which option do you prefer : reading books or viewing movies based on them?

Hi there, thanks for asking. Of course I have to say “it depends” but as one who has watched a lot of movies and a lot of directors commentaries and read few books I would say, according to my own personal opinion, 4 out of 5 times its better to read becauseThe quality of acting and story telling has been dropping to disheartening levels for decades now. This is even measurable, as demonstrated in a video by Paul Joseph Watson in YouTube some years ago.Books only have to get past a publisher and not an entire studio crew so there is much more room for spontaneity and original thinking. You can have morals in books that don't exist in movies b/c studios need mass appeal.Books make you think in ways that movies don't usually trigger.Reading gives a quicker wit to the mind then movies which produce a sort of numbed brain effect. Which is not inherently bad.You can read anywhereReading chases away bad people. I once was having lunch with 4 dudes and I started talking about one of my favorite books “the richest man in Babylon” and one said “GAAAAAY I'm going to the bar.” one guy followed him, and the other two asked questions. The topic quickly changed but it's not as though I was being a buzzkill. We were talking about money which is what the book talks about via several short touching stories.Movie actors such as will Smith and Morgan Freeman have said in interviews things like “writers, directors, and actors only become great if they read great books” and “actors that stand the tests of time are those that read enough stories to design a sort of universal appeal that speaks to all generations and experiences in the roles they play.”I could go on but I'll end with saying I really love movies, and if you want some great story telling check out Brick or Primer, for great acting Ben Hur or A Man For All Seasons, for great style try Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy or the god fatherHope this helps manCheers buddy

What is the difference between "A True Story", "Based On A True Story" and "Inspired By A True Story" in movies?

Thanks for the A2A.A true story is the reenactment of an actual event, usually using the same names for the characters and scene is recreated accordingly.  There is no dramatisation whatsoever (it's rather impossible but minimal changes happen)  and the story is well researched before being compiled.Facts and figures of a true story can be validated. They often mention the source (the author himself undergoing/undergone the event) or the biography or reports to affirm the veracity of the story . This is seen in many  documentaries and autobiographies.'Based on a true story' refers the recreation of a story with changes to the storyline to suit the audience's understanding and expectations. Often done to entertain the audience and dramatises certain events for that purpose. Moderate modification of facts is seen and these aren't absolutely authentic but the basic storyline can be verified with an actual story. Seen in making certain films and crime/law related sitcoms. 'Inspired from a true story' is the adaptation of a story in spinning a new tale altogether. Characters are usually have different names. The setting, progression and scene can sometimes be share little similarities with a true story. The gist however may be the same. Only certain aspects of the plot would be drawn from real stories. This term is also used when stories are partially copied and duplicated from a real incident. Dramatisation and manipulation of facts is seen heavily as it is a new story. To read my  written work like stories, articles and many such others, follow my blog-  My fortuitous Writing. Why do we cry more often at sad books and movies but not real life tragedies?

This is, unfortunately, slightly simple to explain. It’s because when we read or watch a story, we begin to identify with the characters on a personal level. We see the characters before, during, and after a tragedy (usually) and we experience the events as they do. We can personally respond to their experience with how we would react if we were there, and in some cases we react to the characters as if they are friends or family and feel emotionally hurt when they are hurt. However, during real life tragedies, we rarely know the people involved. In tragedies like hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, and war, we tend to see the bodies on television or hear a death count. We don’t see people moving around, laughing, living their lives like normal. We see them laying on the ground, or we hear them reduced to a number. The people we do see are usually from a distance, and usually we see more of the rescuers then we do of the actual victims of the tragedy. When we do see the victims, we normally only see them after the tragedy, and they’re alive and well, talking about what happened to them in a short time span. We have no time to identify with them personally. In some cases, when the person is particularly emotional, we’ll have an equal response, but a lot of times, this does not stick with us as long as the loss or pain of a fictional character does. This is why documentaries of tragedies are so hard for some people to watch. They have time to identify with the people in the documentary, whether they are personally on the screen or being talked about by somebody else, and as we learn about their life and their tragedy, we are constantly reminded that it was a real event that happened to a real person.I hope this helps you to understand.

Why do people read fiction books when they can watch fiction movies? If movies were invented before any fiction books had ever been written, would people still tell stories through books?

I think Marcus has a phenomenal answer, so I won't try to top that, but one aspect of the original question that interested me was the idea of "telling a story." On one hand, yes, movies can tell a story "better" than fiction, if you understand "telling a story" to mean presenting a viewer with a series of related images in a certain sequence. I'll give you that. But boy does that sure leave out a lot of features of a "good" story.Think about storytellers in your life. Bedtime stories with your mom, war stories from your grandfather, maybe you had a friend in high school or college who was great at weaving tall tales. Why were they good, these stories? Were they good because the storyteller brought along a series of pictures and let you look at them and then say to yourself, "Yeah, that was a good story?" Of course not. That's silly. What made them good stories was the voice in which they were told, the filter through which they were described. Now let's translate that to fiction. The beautiful thing about reading a story on the page is the language itself. When reading, you are completely inside the head of the voice telling the story, whether it be a first person narrator or a more traditional third person authorial voice. Thus, when reading, you can really, truly be inside someone else's head, see the world the way that person sees it. Film doesn't give you that luxury. Even if you have a unique narrative voice, Forrest Gump, for example, you still have a series of objective images being presented on the screen that leave little to the imagination.Fiction is great precisely because it is not film. And film is great because it's not fiction. It can paint a clearer picture of a setting, can give you the satisfaction of seeing the lush landscape instead of having to picture it nebulously in your mind's eye. But if you really want to see the world through a new character's eyes, let the written word do the work. Find yourself awash in someone else's thoughts, dreams, hopes, fears, clothes, home, city, world. There's nothing else quite like it.

Is the Movie "Freedom Writers" based on a true story?

Freedom Writers is inspired by a true story and the diaries of real Long Beach, California teenagers after the 1992 Los Angeles riots, during the worst outbreak of interracial gang warfare. Set in and around Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach, California during the mid 90's, two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank stars as Erin Gruwell, whose passion to become a teacher is soon challenged by a group of Black, Latino, and Asian street gangsters who hate her even more than each other, mainly due to her being White.

After a few days of class, Erin and her students get into a debate about racism during which she compares a caricature of a black student with big lips, drawn by another student, to the Nazis' caricatures of Jews with big noses. She then takes her students to the Museum of Tolerance to teach them about the Holocaust. Over the course of the movie, Erin finds more ways to teach her students about racism and respect. As Erin begins to listen to them in a way no adult has ever done, she begins to understand that these kids believe that surviving is enough - that they are not delinquents but teenagers fighting "a war of the streets" that began long before they were born. For the first time, the teens experience hope that they can show the world that their lives matter and that they have something to say.

Since the school is not very capable and unwilling to pay for books and excursions, she pays a lot herself, financed by two extra, part-time, jobs. Because of the little time she is with her husband, he divorces her.

One of the books students read is The Diary of Anne Frank. Money is raised to have Miep Gies come over to talk about the Holocaust.

Ms. G, as her students come to call Gruwell, hands out journals to her students so they can write about the past, present, future, good days and bad ones. Happily, she watches each student come to her desk and take one. Later on she sits down to read and becomes amazed at their stories and hardships. These students become freedom writers. Ms. G makes her students type up their stories into a book they title, "The Freedom Writers Diary," and according to the end credits, this book was published in 1999.

Does true love exists in real life or just movies?

I'm so confused about love. When I watch all these romantic movies i really want to be loved and to love like that but in real life i don't think that happens. I'm 15 and i don't think i believe in love but i do believe in a mother's love though. I just think that most teenagers my age don't even know what love is and maybe their love is about kissing, fingering and having sex. All my friends have boyfriends and that's what they mostly do and i really want a boyfriend but i don't want the relationship to be basically base upon sex. I know people also say love doesn't last forever and others say that if you don't believe in God then you can't love someone else.
I'm so confused.

Will someone please explain this to me?

Why read books when the movie version is available?

How much can a 1 and a half - 2 hour movie reveal of what's in the Book that's about 500-600 Pages?

Do you just like to get the brief summary from the movie?

Personally, I like reading...

The books for example, Harry Potter books - If you read the books, you will find out that the movies do not have all the details and many things that were in the book are not in the movie.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the longest book in the Series (Books) and the movie was the Shortest in the Harry Potter Series (Movie), so many things were cut out.

Well...so, you see what I mean. Besides the above reasons, most of the people love to read the books.
