When did India celebrate Diwali after the Indian cricket team won? I think it was before 2000.

It may not be a real Diwali, but the celebrations on that day were no less than the Diwali celebrations.September 24th 2007 - India vs Pakistan T20I World Cup 2007 Final at JohannesburgIndia and Pakistan reached the finals of the 1st ever T20I World Cup. India batted first and put on a moderate score of 157/5 on the score board, which was not a great score to defend in a World Cup Final. It was a Ganesh Visarjan Day and everyone was in festive mood and was involved in the visarjan process. Band and dances everywhere in Hyderabad. But the cricket fans had their eye on the match too.Pakistan didn’t have had a good start. But Imran Nazir and Misbah-ul-Haq brought back their team on to the track. They required 13 runs from the last over, with one wicket left. Joginder Sharma was the bowler.19.1 - Wide .12 from 6 needed.19.1 - Dot12 from 5 needed.19.2 - Six6 from 4 needed. Within no time the statistics have been changed. Pakistan was one shot short to lift the World Cup. Every Indian cricket fan was tensed and were not in celebrating the Ganesh Visarjan.I still remember, we stopped our Ganesh’s procession for 10 mins to watch the last over of the match. Then happened a magic.19.3 - Joginder Sharma to Misbah - Out.Misbah tried to scoop the ball and was caught by Sreeshanth, somewhere behind the Wicket-keeper. India won the match by 5 runs and lifted the first ever T20I World Cup.Indian Cricket fans came onto the roads, burst crackers and danced to the tunes of the band, which were earlier arranged for the Ganesh Visarjan. It was more like Diwali, than like Ganesh Visarjan.I can never ever forget that day. It completed 11 years by today(24th Spetember, 2018).Unfortunately, it was the last international match for the World Cup hero for India - Joginder Sharma. He is now a Police Officer Haryana Police department.Final, ICC World Twenty20 at Johannesburg, Sep 24 2007 | Match Summary | ESPNCricinfo

Why do South Indian people celebrate Diwali a day before North Indian's ?

Tamil Nadu celebrated diwali a day in advance when compared with other people is because in Tamil Nadu the diwali is celebrated on Naraka Chaturdasi where others celebrated it on ammavas. The celebration also is due to different reasons.Naraka Chaturdasi: The Diwali in South India is considered as a victory of Lord Krishna of the demon Naraka on the day of chaturdasi. During his death Naraka requested that people celebrate the victory of good over evil with new clothes , bursting of crackers etc. People in Tamil Nadu do not consider diwali as festival as lights as we have a separate one during the Kartik Month according to Tamil Calendar.Festival of lights : The name of festive days as well as the rituals of Diwali vary significantly among Hindus, based on the region of India. In many parts of India, the festivities start with Dhanteras (in Northern and Western part of India), followed by Naraka Chaturdasi on second day, Deepavali on the third day, Diwali Padva dedicated to wife–husband relationship on the fourth day, and festivities end with Bhau-beej dedicated to sister–brother bond on the fifth day. Dhanteras usually falls eighteen days after Dussehra. The above mentioned are the customs in Northern part of India. Also Diwali is considered as the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya after conquering of Ravana in Lanka. Source: Tales told by Grandparents and Blockquote by Diwali

Why does Modi celebrate Deepavali every year with the Indian Army, even though India is a secular country, and he does not celebrate other religious festivals?

See friend, I really feel afraid when people ask such questions. I think it’s important to change the criterion of being a literate. Because, when you ask such questions, you defy all logic of being a literate and educated person.PM position is secular. It doesn’t matter if the person holding the position belongs to a particular religion. The person holding the position may practice a particular religion but the position is above all religion. PM can practice any religion, or no religion because we are secular. Why only this position? From a chaiwallah to President, whatever the position be, whatever be the job, it doesn’t belong to a caste or religion. Why ? Because we are secular. And since we are secular, they can practice any religion. I love Mr. Abdul Kalam, I support Mr. Modi for his initiatives. I support them because they are good leader’s and contributing/contributed to the society in a good way. And it doesn’t matter if they practice one particular religion as it doesn’t affect me in any way. Do you get the point? You tell me do you celebrate Christmas, Ramadan and Diwali and every other festival? Do you know how many festivals are celebrated in India?Check out these links:Festivals of India: Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Jain, Christian and Buddhist Festival (Festivals of India: Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Jain, Christian and Buddhist Festival).2016 Indian Calendar for Indian Festivals and Indian Holidays (2016 Indian Calendar for Indian Festivals and Indian Holidays)Indian Religions (Indian Religions)There are so many religions, so many cultures, so many festivals. Ask yourself, why don’t you celebrated each one of them (I am sure about it!)? After all, India is a secular country. Why is this question analogs to your question? Because we are talking about Mr. Narendra Modi as a person. The Prime Minister of India is secular and talks about it whenever possible.Modi asserts Indias secularism, says religion a personal choice (Modi asserts Indias secularism, says religion a personal choice )India's Secularism Cannot be Shaken Due to Sanskrit, Says PM Narendra Modi in Berlin (India's Secularism Cannot be Shaken Due to Sanskrit, Says PM Narendra Modi in Berlin)Have faith in the leader you have selected. Start asking relevant questions!Peace.

Why does the date on which Diwali (and some other festivals) is celebrated change every year?

I had asked the same question to my grandpa when I was kid. In ancient time, when the discovery of the day and year span was yet be done, the day of incident like birth and death was logged on the basis of "Tithi". Entire Hindu Calender is based on "Tithi". In Vedic timekeeping, a tithi (also spelled thithi) is a lunar day, or the time it takes for the longitudinal angle between the Moon and the Sun to increase by 12°.A "Tithi" is a Lunar Day in the Hindu calendar. There are 30 days in one lunar month. It is defined as the time it takes for the angle between the moon and the sun to increase by 12 degrees (30 days x 12 degrees = 360 degrees). One Tithi varies in duration from about 19 to 26 hours. Even though there are 30 Tithis in a lunar month, there are only 16 different names for them. All names have ordinal numbers, except for the first and last day of the lunar month. The first day is called Pratipad while the last day is called either Amavasya (for new moon) or Purnima (for full moon). One lunar year consists of 12 lunar months which equal 360 Tithis (approx. 354 days).Diwali festive start on "Chaturdashi" which also called as "Narak Chaturdashi". As per hindu calender, chaturdashi of month "Kartika" is considered as the first day of Diwali. When there is no moon, which is also called as "Amavasya" or "Amavas", we do "Laxmi Pooja".Diwali has significance of "Deep" which means "Lamp" in english. It is the festival of light and joy. Many see Diwali honouring the return of the god Rama, his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana from exile of fourteen (14) years, as told in the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana. The "Tithi" on which Ram, Laxman and Sita return is the same as Diwali poojan i.e. "Pornima" of "Kartika" month as per Ramayana. So as per Tithi, netxt year Diwali is on 11 November (Wednesday) and in 2016 it will be on 30 October (Sunday). The days of english calender will keep changing  as per the Tithi. I hope this answers your question. Wish you a very Happy Diwali..

Who decides the dates for Diwali annually and how are they decided?

It’s so easy to decide the date of Diwali annually.Earlier, Diwali was celebrated as a festival after the harvest of summer in the Hindu calendar Kartika month. So basically this festival occurs on Kartik Amavasya (New Moon Day). It is the darkest night at the end of the Hindu lunar month of Ashvin and the start of the month of Kartika. According to Common Era calendar Diwali lies between Middle October and Middle November. The Persian traveller and historian Al Biruni in his 11th century memoir on India, wrote Deepavali being celebrated by Hindus on New Moon day of the month of Kartika. An important point to note is that Diwali occurs after 20 days of Dussehra or Vijaya Dashmi (another famous Hindu festival). So, any person who follows Hindu Lunar calendar can determine the date of Diwali easily. Mostly, Temple priests in India do this kind of job.In India, older member of a family keeps track of Hindu Calendar.Source : http://rark.in/diwali-hindu-fest...For further reading, I would suggest :Diwali - WikipediaDiwali: The Biggest and Brightest Hindu FestivalDiwali 2016, When Is Diwali, Diwali calendar, Diwali Date 2016
