Muslims please help, I have two questions about fasting ramadan (siyam)?

1 )when fasting ramadan, is the last meal (iftar), taken before Fajr or before Sunrise?

There's a difference on the calendar there's something called fajr (means we entered the time to make the morning prayer), and there's another time called sunrise (which is the last time to make the prayer) .. so when exactly is the last time to eat and drink before starting to fast??

And my second question is

2) I get very tired and irritated during ramadan.. I feel depressed and low.. I usually skip classes and try not to go out. I even quit my job once because I couldn't do it anymore with the fasting.. I live in America so Ramadan is very hard here. What kind of food do you suggest to avoid the hunger, tiredness and dizziness of the long days of ramadan ? Thank you.

Christian FASTING while having an ulcer?

Fasting isn't about showing God how serious you are about your faith. Christianity isn't about showing God how serious we are about ourselves. Christianity and the gospel of Christ is about Jesus. It's not about us.

What would we be trying to prove to God anyway? That we are worthy of this salvation? If we couldn't save ourselves through anything we did, including religious activities before Christ made Himself known to us, why do we think we can complete this salvation by our own works? If we could save ourselves, we wouldn't need Jesus to save us. If we could do religious activities to make us right with God, then Jesus died in vain. Salvation is a process and we need Jesus as much today to save us and make us whole as we did the day we gave ourselves to Him. We do work out this salvation, but we do so from the understanding and reality that He Is our salvation - not our works, not our even our will/desires. Again, it's about Him.

Jesus told a parable in Luke 18:9-15 about a Pharisee and a tax collector. The Pharisee prayed to God, he actually mentioned that one of the things that set him apart from others, was his fasting. (Luke 18:12). Under the Old Covenant, they were only required to fast once a year. This guy did it twice a week b/c he believed it would cause God to favor him, yet in the story, God rejected the man's prayer.

Some people have had prayer requests and decided not to eat until God answered their prayers the way they wanted them answered. That's not fasting either. That's a hunger strike.

True Biblical fasting is about setting aside food to seek God. As one Bible teacher put it, fasting is about taking time to seek God to get my spirit in tune with what the Holy Spirit is saying. That's the point of fasting. It's a means of seeking God and His will. It's not about proving yourself or manipulating God to favor you or your requests. He already does favor you. The fact that you've put your faith in Christ, is the ultimate sign that you are highly favored of God.

"For BY GRACE you have been saved through FAITH; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God..." Eph. 2:8

To answer your question, I would abstain from fasting until you're healthy. God won't think less of you.

What happens if I miss a day of fasting during Ashura?

Fasting the day of Ashura is sunnah and not obligatory. If you had the intention to fast but couldn't because of some strong reason, then maybe Allah will give you its reward. Anyway, I don't think that fasting another day will make up for the day you lost. But you might wish to do another sunnah, such as fasting 3 days a month or 2 days a week (Monday and Thursday).

What suggestions do you have to make fasting during this coming Ramadan manageable?
