When Should Start Working Towards A Coding Certification I Already Have On The Job Training.

Has anyone obtained a medical billing and coding certificate from Blackstone?

It seems to me that anyone who has graduated and is now working won't be visiting this, or any, online ed site. They'll be working.

Contact people in the career field that you're interested in and ask them where they got their training. Just explain your situation and you'll be surprised at what you can find out.

Medical Coding in Maine - What's the salary & certification requirements for Maine medical coding jobs?

Medical coding salary in Maine starts at $37,000 a year or $13-20 per hour. This goes up to $44,000 a year ($23+/hour) or more once you gain the right certification and experience. As far as qualifications go, you will need a national certification like CPC from AAPC or CCS-P from AHIMA for jobs and a well-paying career in the State of Maine. Both credentials are nationally recognized career qualifications.

AAPC is the largest organization for medical coding training in the US, which makes the certification that much more valuable. To get certified in Maine, you will need to pass the AAPC certification exam (called the CPC exam) with a score of at least 70%.

Here's a Google document that explains the certification requirements and salary figures in Maine:

Do I need a degree to get certified in medical billing/coding?

Since you already have experience, what you need is a national certification like CPC from AAPC or CCS from AHIMA. Both are exam-based credentials i.e., you need to pass one of these exams to get certfied by the respective national coding organizations. A degree, while useful for senior and specialist coders, is usually not required.

What medical coding certificate (professional coder, outpatient coder, inpatient coder) from AAPC should I get if I want to be hired as a remote coder work-from-home in the U.S.?

Full CPC and CCS. Also consider CRC (my test is tomorrow). Then go for CPMA or any other specialty certifications you want.

Jobs that will train you in medical billing and coding?

I'm currently in college but I want a job, a trade in medical billing and coding! like a certificate perhaps. I don't want to go to one of those schools you pay $25,000 to attend for 9 months. My community college In my area has it for more than half that price, but I'm looking for hands on training or possibly some where I can have a certificate in 3 months, btw I live in Maryland. sort of close to the pa line. Anyone have advice or a place I can get certified without spending a lot of money or taking out school loans?

How hard is it to find a job for medical coding with no experience and newly certified?

If you have a coding certification with apprentice status, an option is to take the AAPC practicum which could take care of your 2 year experience requirement and remove the apprenticeship status. If you cannot find employment as an inexperienced Coder you might want to try getting a billing or medical records type of position as a foot in the door. Something that exposes you to the codes even if you're not a Coder, per se. Usually that type of experience works to your advantage in an organization that employs Coders, as well as external jobs. It's definitely an advantage for a Coder to have billing and claims experience. Especially in the eyes of the insurance companies who hire Coders to audit claims.

Is medical billing and coding a good career choice?

No--- I took a vocational class on this (I also have a Bachelors degree) and there aren't too many jobs for this. Actually, they want nurses to do the billing and coding since nurses are much more experienced in the medical field. And it makes total sense!! You may be one of the lucky ones who can find employment in this field BUT I don't think it pays very well.

I think you should go to Nursing School or even a therapist of any kind. There are tons of jobs out there.. And in Nursing you can make so much money---they are wanted everywhere 24 hours a day. I really wished that I wanted to be a nurse.

Good luck and do some research in the 'help wanted' ads before you go to school.
