When The Ny Islanders Move 2 Brooklyn

To Staten Islanders, how do you feel about the other boroughs, particularly Manhattan?

I was wondering, because you guys are in a funny situation. Staten Island once wanted to secede from NY (so did people in Long Island), you guys are in New Jersey waters, and other New Yorkers (Mostly Manhannites) love to make fun of you. Now, I'm a Jersey boy. I'm used to all of the undeserved jokes from Manhattanites who haven't been more than 2 miles into my state. Not all Manhattanites are judgmental and snobby, but it seems that some of them are. Even here in Jersey I've heard some people (just a few, not many) make jokes about Staten Island, but I quickly rush to Staten Island's defense, because I understand their situation with all of the unfair jokes and misconceptions.Perhaps they're just transplants from Middle America who develop an ego because now they're living in the big city. Anyway, back to my original question: How do you Staten Islanders feel about Manhattan and the other boroughs? I guess I can also extend my question to people from New York state and Long Island. Thanks guys!

When does the New York Islanders contract with MSG+ end?

Cablevision (through the MSG family of networks) controls the rights to Islander broadcasts until 2030. The deal then-SportsChannel had running with the NYI was extended back in 1996.

Would the New York Islanders moving to Brooklyn damage the team's fan base on Long Island?

Yes, those suburban Long Island residents with no interest in going to Brooklyn (or even New York City), will be affected.  What percentage of current Nassau and Suffolk based Islanders fans would stop rooting for the team, watching games on TV or going to games is unknown. Now that the team's future is clear, that they are moving to Brooklyn, I expect attendance in the final 2-3 (lockout still pending) seasons at Nassau Coliseum to be at least slightly increased over past years.  While the Islanders are leaving Nassau, they are not leaving the physical Long Island (Brooklyn and Queens are geographically part of Long Island), and they are not moving to another market like Seattle or Quebec.

What do you call people who are from brooklyn, ny?

My friend Brooklyn residents are known as Brooklynites.

I hope this information is very helpful.

Good luck

Why are there so many Rangers fans on long island?

Like I used to live in the city and now I live in long island and you would think a team called the Islanders that have a picture of our island in there logo would have fans from nearby, I mean my town is 10 minutes away from where they play. They made the playoffs last year and have 2 of the leauges best players(tavares and okposo and even vanek). Its not like the rangers are even that much better.
no one even takes us seriously. We best the rangers, bruins, blackhawks, stars, leafs, pheonix al this month and no one gives a ****, but when the rangers win against the hawks by the same score the whole hockey community cares. Im out numbered 5 to 1 in my school Its really not fair the rangers are only 12 points ahead of the islanders anyway and the only reason were doing bad is beacause nakakov got surgery and we had no backup so halp

How do you chose if you are a NY Islanders or NY Rangers fan?

I really like Doug’s answer to this… It’s all a matter of which players you like and which teams give you the easiest access to watch their games. You did leave one team out of your equation, that’s the New Jersey Devils. There are three great teams to follow in the New York Metro area. Choosing any one of the three would be better than cheering for the Flyers :)

New York Knicks or New Jersey Nets / Brooklyn Nets?

I would suggest watching both teams play while they scheduled on tv or going to a game itself.

The New York Knicks (which I am a long time fan for life) been instituted in NYC since 1946 and won 2 NBA Championships. Which they have been the team of the Metropolitan area.

The Nets started off as one of the new ABA teams (American Basketball Association) in the early 70's which they played in Long Island and established themselves with stars like Rick Barry and Julius Irving. Since they moved to New Jersey, they had their ups and downs in the league and been to the NBA championship since the merger.

Although the rivalry between the Knicks and Nets has been much of great news like the Redsox and Yankees. Once they move to Brooklyn, the rivalry will be more of a challenge between Brooklyn and Manhattan.

If the Phoenix Coyotes, New York Islanders, and Florida Panthers were to move....?

The Isles arent going far. They may move down the block but Bettman and the other owners arent going to let them go to far for many reasons. First they understand Wang is the issue more so than the city and they simply aren't going to leave a city with the amount of dollars out there and available once they do turn around this franchise. Too much at stake in tv revenue....deals are worked in many different ways but of utmost importance is size of viewership area. And NY is a huge factor in that.

The Panthers will move...they have asked for and received financial assistance from the league. They simply dont have a large enough fan base nor do they garner the corporate dollars the league hoped they would. City size makes this painful but they cant continue to lose money without the other shoe dropping.

And Phoenix...well even the franchise is using ads meant to light a fire as they are dangerously close to moving. The move is inevitable....the other 29 owners (who by way of court order) own the franchise now and are very tired of footing a losing franchises bills on top of their own.

Seattle has jumped to the front of the moving franchises line....once they build a stadium a move there is incredibly likely to happen. The city has been in discussion with Bettman....2 potential owners have stepped up with one willing to finance a stadium....it is a top 15 tv market and hockey has established roots there. Contrary to some people thinking they are too close to Vancouver the fact is they are outside the leagues drawn up boundaries an on top of that Vancouvers ownership group are on the record as not only okay with a Seattle team but hopeful it happens to build a driveable rivalry.

Quebec, Portland, Kansas City, Houston and surely others will all stand in line hoping to get a team....all have good arguments for and arguments against them landing a team. My feeling is all 3 will announce their intentions by the conclusion of the season with only the Isles staying put (and having a new stadium deal in place). WIth realignment inevitable it makes great sense to establish who is and who isnt moving by then so they only have to shuffle teams once.

Why is it that most people don't know that Staten Island is part of NYC?

First off, Brooklyn isn't a separate city; it's a separate county and borough but it's a part of the same city as all of the other boroughs.

Secondly, SI is underrepresented because 1. not as many people live there, 2. the transportation to get there is not frequent or numerous, and 3. it gets swamped with the fumes from NJ plants and therefore no one wants to go there.

I personally like SI and have considered moving there, but it's just one of those places that is easy to bypass and, therefore, forget about.
