Whenever Tea Partiers Whine About Us Spending

Politically speaking, what on earth is a tea party?

A revolt against taxes:

The Boston Tea Party was a direct action protest by colonists in Boston, a town in the British colony of Massachusetts, against the British government. On December 16, 1773, after officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor. The incident remains an iconic event of American history, and has often been referenced in other political protests.

The Tea Party was the culmination of a resistance movement throughout British America against the Tea Act, which had been passed by the British Parliament in 1773. Colonists objected to the Tea Act for a variety of reasons, especially because they believed that it violated their constitutional right to be taxed only by their own elected representatives. Protestors had successfully prevented the unloading of taxed tea in three other colonies, but in Boston, embattled Royal Governor Thomas Hutchinson refused to allow the tea to be returned to Britain. He apparently did not expect that the protestors would choose to destroy the tea rather than concede the authority of a legislature in which they were not directly represented.

The Boston Tea Party was a key event in the growth of the American Revolution. Parliament responded in 1774 with the Coercive Acts, which, among other provisions, closed Boston's commerce until the British East India Company had been repaid for the destroyed tea. Colonists in turn responded to the Coercive Acts with additional acts of protest, and by convening the First Continental Congress, which petitioned for repeal of the acts and coordinated colonial resistance to them. The crisis escalated, and the American Revolutionary War began near Boston in 1775.

Do you think John Boehner is getting tired of having to deal with all the tea partiers?

Oh yeah. He is failing to get them to function as part of the Republican caucus. If the shut down had happened, he'd have been finished because it would have shown everyone that Republicans have lost control of the party. Having TEA party members outside the capital chanting "shut it down" shows that they are more interested in grandstanding and getting attention at the expense of the American people than actually doing anything productive for the country. The shut down would have cost a fortune, and yet they claim to want to cut spending.

The TEA party candidates are all freshmen and know nothing about legislating. They are going to hurt the Republican party, but they will never have enough support to win on their own. You'll notice they run as Republicans, because they can't win as independents or members of their own party.

The Republicans will jettison them like so much garbage come election time. They are proving to be a liability.

Why is there so much in fighting going on in the GOP?

Palin dogging out McCain, Limbaugh dogging out Steel and Nelson and others in the party etc.

"Meanwhile, the voice of political conservatism – that would be broadcaster Rush Limbaugh, not RNC chair Michael Steele – has been nagging Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) of Ky. for not fighting hard enough to block Democrats’ healthcare reform proposals."

And Republican Tom Davis recently said this:

“We’re becoming a church that would rather chase away heretics than welcome converts and that’s no way to become a majority party,” former Rep. Tom Davis, a Virginia Republican who served as National Republican Congressional Committee chairman, told Politico. “This makes no sense for those of us who are interested in winning elections.” Is the GOP coming apart at the seams? Sure looks like it.

My Boston Terrier NEVER wants to stop playing fetch...?

Hello. I can speak directly from experience with my Boston. He, Pancho, is 6 years old now (I have had him since he was 8 weeks old). It is true that Bostons as a breed can be a handful. However, they are extremely lovable and behave like people in that they want to be included in everything you do. Anyway, Pancho is exactly the same way about playing fetch as Henry is. At first, I was frustrated and could not figure out what was wrong with him. Eventually, I stopped reacting to him when he whined or wanted to play. I would hide his ball and ignored him. It was hard doing this to him because you want your Boston to be happy. Eventually, Panch learned that I would only play with him when I was ready. Also, someone else on here made an excellent point. You MUST give him proper outlets for exercise, besides playing fetch. Sometimes walking him will suffice. If you have patience and remain diligent about setting down rules, your Boston will learn to respect you for it and you will be happier! I love Pancho like he was my child and it was well worth the effort to establish ground rules with him. Good luck!

Is my Teacup Yorkie spoiled?

Who cares anyway?
Happy new Year Megan.
