I wouldn't try to shrink it if I were you. I tried this once. I didn't even soak it. I just submerged it for a second, and then blotted it dry and let it air dry, but did go ahead and fasten it in the notch that I wore it in. It ended up being a total loss because the water ruined the leather and it just cracked and got very dry and little bits would shed off. I even tried a leather conditioner on it and that didn't help it enough to make it wearable again. You could probably just poke a new hole in to make it fit a little more snug.
