Those are vintage Moon Boots by Technica of Italy. The Brand name is Moon Boots, and they were a cross between ski boots and the big padded boots worn on the moon by astronauts. Those look like early 1980's models, when they were worn in the movie they were completely out of style and were supposed to show that Napoleon was fashion-challenged. Technica is still in business and still making Moon Boots for heavy winter weather. Over the years their collections have changed to reflect changing styles and trends. The movie if filled with vintage and retro clothes and props, some dating back from the 70's -things that weren't always saved or preserved because they were cheap, common, or because they were simply used to the point of broken. You can keep an eye open at thrift stores and vintage stores. Some specialty vintage stores keep "wish list" books you can ask them to keep an eye out for authentic 1980's Napoleon Dynamite moon boots.

I usually put my socks on before I put long pants on. This is a tiny fraction more convenient than putting my socks on after the pants. When I take my shoes off, I take my socks off.When I was a lot younger, I used to put my shoes and socks on before my pants, and it was no problem. There came a point in my life when my shoes wouldn’t slip down my pants leg so conveniently and I began to put the pants on first. During the era of bell bottoms I mostly went back to putting my shoes on first. Bell bottoms are mostly gone now, but sometimes I wear jeans with a “boot cut” lower leg.In all cases, I would usually take my shoes off first, but I think that’s because the soles might be dirty from being outside. I tend to prefer walking on dirt to walking on concrete.
