Where Can I Get A Cat

Yes, technically, some forms of feline conjunctivitis are transmissible to humans. It requires direct contact however (touching your cat's eye and then your own without washing your hands properly), and is less contagious to people than it is to other cats. Here is what Dr. Shelby Neely's site has to say on the subject: Chlamydial conjunctivitis can be, but is very rarely, transmitted from cats to people. The chlamydophila organism that causes conjunctivitis in cats is highly adapted to felines, so the risk of transmission to humans is very low.Even though contracting conjunctivitis from a cat with the condition is very rare, because it is possible, taking some precautions makes sense. If you are around a cat with conjunctivitis, it makes sense to wash your hands well after touching or treating the area around the eyes. Other than taking that precaution, it is of little concern. I have handled thousands of cats with conjunctivitis and have never had it. My technicians, likewise, never get conjunctivitis and neither have my clients over the last 20 years. Feline herpes virus, however, is not a zoonotic disease. While both cats and people have several different forms of herpes virus, each with different symptoms, each form is adapted to the species that it originates in. You cannot contract herpes virus cold sores or genital herpes from contact with a cat with feline herpes virus, nor can your cat contract a herpes virus from a human having a herpes outbreak.

How can i get my mom to let me get a cat?

Please help! I know a cat is a responsibility thing but i was so close to getting a kitten my mom said maybe then she said yes by the time she answered they where gone. We have a stray cat that i pretty much call mine he lives in her garage in the winter she's an adorable cat but everytime i have a chance my mom now says no. because she says they stink and she always says Marissa i know you wont take care of it i'll have to do it. I dont know why she thinks it i mean i've had fish hamsters and i used to have 3 dogs but the dogs now live with my aunt =( anyways i've tooken care of all my animals. The only reason any of my animals have ever died is because of old age. I once had a fish that was supposed to only live to be 2 months it lived for 4 years because i took care of it. She's not a huge cat fan. But she knows i would do anything for a cat does anyone have any idea on how to let her let me get a cat?

How can I get my cat to stop?

You need to train him now that he shouldn't pee anywhere other than his litter box. He is still a baby, so he should learn quick. If you get a squirt bottle and fill it water, give him a squirt when he looks like he is about to pee somewhere he shouldnt. Then pick him up and put him in his litter box. Once he has done his business, give him lots of love and treats and tell him how good he is =) You could also apply this technique to the pot plants. Cat hate water!!!

He might also not like using his litter box due to a number of things. Cats can be fussy and his litter box might not be clean enough or changed regularly enough for his liking. It could also be the type of litter you are using. Try to use a sandy litter thats soft on his paws. Those crystal type ones might eliminate the odour, but it is sharp and hurts their toes!! Clean his litter box out regularly so it doesnt smell and hopefully he should stop peeing on your devut!!

Good luck =D

How can i get my cat to lose weight?

I am the proud mother of a 19 lb. 6 yr old cat. She just had her physical & is perfectly healthy (other than being a fat cat). We have tried several 'diet' foods. Science diet prescription diet seemed to help her lose some weight, but you have to get it from a vet. Since we have more than 1 cat, we've also tried several 'over-the-counter'; however our other cat developed bladder crystals. Some diet foods eliminate calories by taking out the ingredients that prevent bladder crystals and urinary tract infections. Iams Multi-Cat & Science Diet's Prescription Diet are probably the best. Imas' Weight Control tends to make their poop stinkier (at least in some cats). Diet foods are fine, but the biggest thing is to get her to play more. All in all though, if she's healthy except for the extra lbs, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Can i get a kitten with my mum cat & kitten?

it might be best not to, as much as getting a new kitten is exciting, the mother cat might see the new kitten as a predator and protect her kitten (lets call it kitten 1) against the new kitten (lets call it kitten b).

if you do get one though, make sure to introduce them slowly, set the new kitten (kitten b) up with its own room and introduce the kitten that was born in your house (kitten a) first as they have the most chance of getting along, then after the two kittens have had a play (if they get along) on a couple of different days, introduce the mother to kitten b with kitten a away.

its best in both cases to start them off in a situation where they can smell and see each other without being able to touch each other and then slowly let them out, but ensuring if they start to fight in a way they might hurt each other, then you take them away, and give them a time out in a room by themselves with no toys and only a litter box & a bowl of water for about 15-20 mins.

Where can I get free cat food?

If you are broke enough to qualify for food stamps your problem is partially solved.

The cat needs to eat meat, you don't. Buy inexpensive meats for your cat and feed them to him including bones and organs like liver.

Feed them raw as cooking destroys taurine. Taurine is an essential nutrient for cats.

If you want to do this, ask more questions about raw feeding a cat on a budget.

For yourself, prepare all your food at home including food you'll eat away like lunch. Make everything from scratch rather than readymade foods like canned soup, beans etc.

Buy a 5lb bag of rice and see how far you can stretch it. Buy dried beans and cook a big potful. See how creative you can get with speghetti and just a couple other ingredients.

It really isn't that difficult to save a huge amount of money on food. I have experimented with "how low can you go" and can honestly say that if I want to, I can eat for $25.00 per week.

Check into food stamps. You eat beans and rice, Mittens eats chicken and liver. You can do it.

Update: Another idea. I just read this in a Boston newspaper, it concerned some food pantries now accepting pet foods.

I saw your last question. There should be plenty of food pantries in the Atlanta area. You should call around and ask if you qualify and whether they have pet food.

Also, I was at an animal shelter recently getting a cat spayed. There was a big box of cat food in the waiting area. I asked about it. They had put it out for people who needed it.

Seems they feed their animals just one food so when people donate food they give it to "feral cat people" or put it out for people who can't afford cat food .

You could call animal shelters and ask if they do this.

My sister used to live in Marietta and I have a friend in Akworth. If I can get any useful info out of either of them tonight I wil update again.

Pregnant cats can be spayed. If a pregnant cat is spayed the fetuses are given euthanasia solution once the uterus is removed. I am unaware of any procedure where the fetuses are surgically removed from the cat’s uterus without taking the uterus as well. Chemical abortions are theoretically possible, but I've never heard of any veterinarian purposely doing so. I'm not even sure which drugs would be used if it was attempted.

How can I get my cat to gain weight?

It sounds like you're doing everything right. Maybe make the wet food a treat, this might entice him to eat it more quickly. Give it to him at night, but make a really big deal about it. I micowave mine on half power for 15 secs, my kitten Lucky loves the warm food, he just chows it down! Perhaps you should try a different type of wet food. Find the one that has your cat climbing up the counter to get to it.
Also, if you're not doing it already, feed your cat kitten food. For the first year they need the kitten food to put on weight and grow healthy and strong. Yes, it is more expensive, but it is well worth it. I recommend Pro-plan kitten formula, you can get it at PetSmart.
Maybe you should also give your kitten treats through the day, between 6-8 treats per day. If nothing else is working, take your kitten to the vet to find out his opinion on what you can do.
Good luck, snuggle your kitten!

How can I get my cat to lose weight?

It's great to know that you realize that you cat has gotten more weight than he could handle and needs help. However, this has to be done slowly and gradually. There are a lot of things that you need to keep in mind and one of the most important is to never cut out his food too much, too soon. With an overweight cat, weight loss has to happen gradually to prevent fatty liver disease.

Here's a great website with well researched info and guide on how to properly create a diet plan:-

A Short summary:-

To get a cat to lose weight, do the following after consulting with your veterinarian:

1.) Have a thorough physical exam, lab tests, and accurate weigh recorded. Be sure to rule out hypothyroidism or other metabolic disorders.

2.) Feed less food than you have been

3.) Feed foods high in protein and fat and low in carbohydrate

4.) Feed small portions at intervals (2x to 4x per day) rather than continuous free access/ free choice

5.) Increase the cat’s activity/exercise by enriching the cat’s environment

6.) Reweigh the cat at three to four week intervals to assess your weight loss diet’s progress

7.) Reconsider the total daily amount fed if weight gain or no weight loss is noted

8.) Once the cat is at an idea weight, adjust the total amount fed so that the cat’s body weight remains stable.

In addition to reducing calorie intake, it is important to increase the calories used. Exercise programs for cats are more difficult to design than those for dogs. Some cats will walk on a leash and this would be excellent exercise. Even just going outside under supervision can get the cat to move around a bit more. Some cats enjoy watching cat 'videos'; it may not be that much exercise, but at least it keeps them alert and prone to bat at the TV at least a few times. Buy the cat some new toys and initiate play with the cat. Try a little catnip. In addition to burning a few extra calories, exercise and play may help keep the cat's focus away from the food bowl.

Kindly read through the important tips and you can start him on the road to a better body and healthier life!
