Well, if you really want to “play against type” and have a ball, Russian Bear on Clement Street in the “Little Russia” section of the Inner Richmond used to have a ballroom/dance hall on the 2nd floor. My friends—a married couple—he a Filipino/Tagolog and she a Mongolian—booked this upstairs reception hall for the post-baptismal celebration of the daughter a few years back. Don’t know if it’s still there, but it was a BLAST! Who would have known? There was a Russian band playing Russian folk and US/international pop standards. The entire staff was cordial, efficient, convivial, helpful, con-celebratory, professional, thoughtful, and the food was the bomb! It was really my first major exposure to Russian food. WAIT!! Let me look it up really quickly! Darn! It’s closed down permanently! A shame! If it’s a smaller, more family orientated party maybe a local restaurant/family pub that has a party room. They offer reasonable deals.DJs could be bordering on expensive, ask the venue if they have one they could provide. My friend wants to throw a (small and very tame) party for her 18th birthday in a nice suite in a hotel. She's wondering if it's legal to have a few people in your hotel room and stay over, or if they have to be included as additional guests. I know it sounds like a silly question, but you know how in the movies a guy will bring a girl back to his hotel room? is this any different?
