Where To Study For 9th Grade Shsat

9th grade SHSAT!!?

Okay, so SHSAT: I failed it last year. Well not failed, that was an exaggeration. I became extremely nervous during the test and when I got the results back in March: 470. I got into LaGuardia Drama and Bayside, but I'm going for Bayside because LaG focuses too much on the arts and plus I wouldn't have time to study for the next shsat. Whatever. Anyway I really, really want to get into Stuyvesant next year. The test date is November 1st. I took Integrated Algebra this year and probably did pretty well on it. I guess I have to study geometry over the summer for more assurance. Do you think that Algebra 2/Trigonemetry would also help or is that too much? Please answer, I really need to get in. I know that Bayside's great and all, but I do better in very competitive areas like Stuy. PLEASE HELP:
1-) What subjects are on the math? Difficulty level?
2-) English section: how hard is it?
3-) Last time, I messed up on the timing. Should I decrease my practice test timing to like, 2 hours and 10 minutes?
4-) I don't even care if I have to do hardcore prep, just please help?
5-) Thanks

9th Grade SHSAT! What is on it?

Just study every chance you get. What to study? Everything you studied for the eighth grade SHSAT PLUS what is on the ninth grade curriculum.
When I took the ninth grade SHSAT, the english was easy and the math was never-before-seen.
I got into Bronx Science after studying for two whole weeks, days and nights. =P
I might've made it to Stuy if I had taken prep school or studied for a longer period of time.
I went to the library and pretty much took out every SAT PSAT or SHSAT prep book there was. Also Math A, B.
It left me with no time to do homework/study for school tests, so I recommend you start before ninth grade school starts. In fact start now. For me, because of my procrastination I had to do homework in school and pretty much guess on school tests. Luckily, I already knew a lot so it wasn't so difficult.

How should I study for the 9th grade shsat?

Ok so... Here's the deal. I took the shsat in 8th grade and got a scale score of 417. I know I know this is bad. I believe I could of gotten a better score if I didn't have to guess on 10-15 reading comprehension question because of 2 minutes left. ;( I had stayed on one math question for about 10 minutes. What was wrong with me. Anyways can you please give a detailed description on how I should study for the 9th grade shsat. For example the topics, time needed to study a day, and helpful tips to approach all types of questions. Please help me; If you have any useful sites may you please list them. Also is there any sample problems for the 9th grade shsat or test? I really want to get into Brooklyn Tech. Thank You.

9th Grade Shsat help!!@!#@!#>!#@!#!?

Ok, I heard trig wasn't such a huge subject on this test, I'm planning to take test again next year because I missed stuy by a few points (554), they might have a few questions on 30,60,90 sine's but dont stress that. The algebra II is mainly formulas, you have to know how to factor everything that can be factored. Memorize Eulers formulas, and know all your formulas for finding the surface area and volume of all 3D figures. Also a lot of Integrated Algebra is on this test, stuff you learned in 8 or 9th grade (slope, quadratic, trig func). Don't try to learn this stuff quickly though spend a few days on one topic. I would recommend CliffsStudySolver Algebra II book, and any other book on basic trig if you want. Also see if you can find some Specialized High School Handbooks from the past maybe from friends. However, even though this test is on harder subjects, its goal is to test your problem solving skills. Try solve the trickiest questions you can find in a minute. Also try to build speed when taking the regular SHSAT. Try to get it down to 1 Hr 45. Don't think that you should study everyday. I know kids that studied for a month before the test and where able to get in to Stuyvesant. Also the test is in Mid November so keep that in mind. Then try not to take this test so seriously, whatever high school you go to is fine. I think that you've got a good shot at the shcool you want, especially thanks to those classes. Also people who tell you there is less of a chance to get into the school, are not properly informed. Each specialized high school has a seperate HR for incoming tenth graders, that means that each school will take approximatly 30 students+ students who drop out. Look you have six choices for SHS, each one has 30 seats that mean about 180 seats/ 2000 kids score high enough and the odds are not bad. (Stuyvesant Cuttoff approx: 600 and above, Bronx Cuttoff 550, Brooklyn Tech Cuttoff: 500) One other Tip: A perfect score in one subject and an okay score in the other is better that an ok score in both subject

How is it like to retake the SHSAT in 9th grade?

Thanks for the A2A! Personally, I do not know the exact cut off score for the SHSAT for Brooklyn Tech in 9th grade but I do know someone who got into another specialized high school in 9th grade. She did not lose her spot in her previous school until she got into the new school, accepted the offer and transferred.Overall the testing format is generally the same, however, it does feature harder questions since you would have gone through an additional year of schooling. Your knowledge in Algebra will definitely help when answering the questions. I’ve heard that around 10% or more of the questions will be harder for the math because they will be more based on Algebra.Online SHSAT Prep | Lessons, Practice Problems & TestsThis website has great SHSAT test prep tips and problems that I believe can help you improve your score. Since they are online, they can work around your hectic eighth grade schedule especially in June with graduation and events. Additionally, they are personalized to improve your weaknesses through their personalized assessments. And on top of that, they have a score increase GUARANTEE which will greatly help you (especially since the 9th grade test is more competitive because there are less seats).Personally, I would just take the test and see if I get in. There is no harm in trying and you can always reject the offer. If anything, you can take a practice diagnostic test and how you feel.Back to my friend who did get into a school in the 10th grade, she has easily adapted to the school climate and is thriving within her school. Missing one year of schooling in the specialized school is not a big deal if you are really set on going to the school. I feel that specialized high schools can definitely help you in your readiness track to college. I hope this helped, good luck!!

How hard is the 9th grade SHSAT exam?

As someone who currently goes to a specialized high school, I would say that the SHSAT is challenging but not too difficult. I think it just takes some time and practice to raise your score. I would recommend doing a bunch of practice questions, especially in math and reviewing the main concepts.Online SHSAT Prep | Lessons, Practice Problems & TestsThis website has a bunch of great free lessons and practice questions taught by amazing tutors which I find especially helpful. Since some things in the SHSAT might not have been covered by your middle school teachers, its best to review them before the test. My best advice: take the free diagnostic test, see where you stand and practice/improve on your weakest areas through watching videos and many practice questions.

What can help prep for the 9th grade SHSAT?

There are not a lot of practice books for the SHSAT due to the fact that it is such a localized test that only appeals to students who want to attend a specialized school in New York. Therefore, you should take advantage of the internet. Caddell Prep provides hundreds of practice problems along with explanations that will surely put you on the right track for the SHSAT, and it saves you money in the long run, rather than signing up for an expensive tutor. Make sure to complete all of the practice problems you can, and study efficiently by taking short but frequent breaks. Good luck! :)

9th grade SHSAT...how hard is it? =] (Best answer)?

lol dude, u and me gotta work hard for this test. about 30 ppl get selected, and about 2,000 ppl take the test.

we gotta read trigonometry and stuff like graphing, and inequalities. when my bro got into stuy, i went to the open house and they were selling workbooks there on integrated 9th grade mathematics, my dad bought 3 and i plan on studying those, since that stuffs onna be on the test.

I might review some English to, maybe do some reading comp adn scrambled paragraphs. and of course do some speed drills to improve confidence of test day.

the cutoff score is gonna b rlly high since so few ppl are getting accepted.. just remember, if you do well in 9th grade math at school, you will do well on the shsat.

Good Luck!
