Yes, the crossover episodes are meant to be seen as a whole. When would you read a new book, reading only a single chapter, and expect to get anything out of it? Even if you only watch the one episode of the series, if you to watch the crossover episode of one show, then at least watch the crossover episodes of all the involved shows.

Season 1 and 2 – Great storyline and pretty indulging backstory (I am a sucker for those).Interesting characters, convincing and sympathetic villians.Season 3– Personally I liked League of Assassins (Ra's al Ghul) and it's portrayal and introduction of a new superhero along with a twist and turn filled season finale. Although common consensus is, it is somehow not in same league as first 2 seasons.Season 4- It had good starting, connected plotline (main villain is referenced in season 3) , mid-season cliffhanger but still it is a waste of time.Season 5-Maybe the best season ever, awesome villain, great storyline and most important it makes us question the origins and repurcusion of superhero's prior actions.
