Where Were You When You Had A Flat Tire Recently Was It At Night Or Day

What do I do when my car has a flat tire at night?

First you get a “donut” spare tire that fits your car and store it in the trunk. Then you get a AAA membership. It’s called “being prepared”. Or maybe you’d rather sit out there in the dark with a flat tire, or incur the cost of two tows. When you get the flat you call AAA and they’ll come out and mount the spare. They’ll throw the flat tire into the trunk. You drive home. In the morning you take your flat to a shop and see if they can fix the puncture. If not, you drive to the shop that does carry your brand of tire, replace the tire, and be on your way.

How do I act when I get a flat tire on the 405 Freeway at night?

When you consider that the Interstate 405 (California) extends 72+ miles from San Fernando in the north to Irvine in Orange County in the south, that answer could vary greatly. However, if you have a AAA membership or facsimile thereof, you could call for Roadside Assistance once you have eased the vehicle safely onto the shoulder or exit ramp.I have twice had to use my mobile phone to call for Roadside Assistance on the 405 just south of the 105 by LAX [see photo]. It was daylight and I had lost all engine power, so I was forced to stay with the vehicle on the shoulder until a flatbed arrived to transport me and the vehicle off of the freeway. You CANNOT attempt to cross traffic on foot on the world's busiest freeway or you will end up with a toe tag:I-405 is a heavily traveled thoroughfare by both commuters and by  freight haulers along its entire length and is the busiest and most  congested freeway in the United States. The freeway's annual average daily traffic between exits 21 and 22 in Seal Beach reached 374,000 in 2008, making it the highest count in the nation

What should you do with a flat tire?

Nr1: determine the problem. If it is a cut or puncture on the sidewall you should discard the tire and buy a new one. If it is a small puncture from nail/screw somewhere in the thread (90% that it is) proceed with repair.NEVER USE FOAM!  It is always temporary and will ruin pressure sensor if it is mounted.Nr2: Remove the nail and seal with special cord. See the example here:This is very cheap kit readily available everywhere. It can be used multiple times and most important it is permament. If it seals (it can not seal long cuts like knife puncture) then it will last as long as tire itself.PS: if tire was driven flat (and it is not RunOnFlat type) it may be damaged. Should be  unmounted to check for damage later. If it was not driven then no need to do that. Recheck tire  pressure the next day. Thats all!

Can I sue? Car towed from my apartment for flat tire.?

I was away over Christmas week, and left my car in the parking lot at my apartment complex. I returned home last night, and this morning I noticed my car was not here when I went to leave for work.

Apparently, my car had been towed on Dec 31 due to a flat tire. I was told that a sticker was placed on my car alerting me of the flat tire (on the 29th).
I did a bit of research and learned a few things...

1) Cars towed from parking lots may NOT be taken more than 10 miles away from where they were "found". My car is 12.5 miles away.
2) Tow companies must provide me with immediate access to retrieve my car. I had no idea it was gone for THREE DAYS (I was out of town). I received no calls/notices from my apartment complex and they have all my information on file.
3) According to MD (Maryland, where I live), flat tires are not grounds for towing. According to my lease, grounds for towing are as follows: Blocking other cars, blocking dumpsters, parking in illegal spaces, repairing a car on property and storing cars on property. I was not doing any of this.
4) I have to pay $220 plus daily storage fees IN CASH to get my car back. Is this even legal? I've never heard a fee that high.

Please give me some insight on what I should do. I cannot pay my rent this month now because of this whole fiasco. I am kind of desperate.

Ever had a flat tire in the middle of nowhere?

I had my tire break off in the middle of nowhere. That metal thing with the sticky outy things that hold the tire in place... It completely broke off while I was driving home from college for Thanksgiving one year. It happend in this shitty little coal town called Frackville in PA. Thank God some old guy was driving behind me or who knows how long I would have been stuck out there. Also, thank God he wasn't a serial killer!

He took me to this car fixing garage "back in town" where he left me with three toothless auto mechanics. I was 18 years old. I sat in the corner on a bucket crying my eyes out wondering if I'd ever get home. None of my family even knew I was out there because old dude had let me use his cell to call people but no one was home. They were off picking up my other siblings from their colleges...

My bike tire was flat, so I pumped it with some air, the next day it was flat again. No punctures. Any ideas?

You have a leak somewhere. As others have said, its either a tiny hole in the tube or from the valve. I would remove the tube, inflate it a bit and then immerse the tube bit by bit in a bowl of water. You will soon see the bubbles. They may not be a steady stream, just a bubble that is growing on the surface. Don’t be confused by bubbles just clinging to the tube’s surface. Just wipe them off. A tube can be successfully and reliably repaired with a puncture outfit patch. Just do it properly with scrupulous cleanliness of the repair area. Its important to find the sharp that caused the problem which is probably still in the tyre and remove it. It could be a bit of glass a flint a nail or a thorn. When you refit the tyre and tube to the wheel, make sure that there are no other bits of debris, no matter how small, lying inside the tyre. They can abrade through the tube and give you another puncture in a few weeks time.PS. Always carry a spare tube.

Flat tire... city's fault???

I was driving at night and ran over a water access lid in the street which punctured my tire and flattened it immediately. Not too worried cuz I knew I had a spare, I pulled over into a parking lot but alas my spare was flat too. Not sure what i had run over, I walked over to where the incident had taken place and saw that the water access lid in the road had popped off and that's what had caused my flat. Another driver got a flat from the same thing, a cop was helping him but at the time i didn't think to give the cop any of my information. The tire place told me the next day that I should report the incident to the city and have them refund me for the new tire. Think this is a good idea or just a waste of time???

What will happen if you drive with a flat tire?

Two additional pointsRun-flat tyres are a thing. They contain capsules of lubricant so the tyre can be driven on, flat, for tens of miles at modest speed. Enough to get to a garage. The downside is that once they’re driven on flat, they cannot be repaired. Most modern vehicles have tyre-pressure monitoring, so you ought to know if a tyre is going or has gone flat even if you can’t tell by the handling. And my personal view on tyres. Buy the well known brands, and swap your tyres at 3mm tread, not any less. Your life (and maybe my life) depends more on your tyres than just about any other component of your car. Buy good ones and get rid of them before they are completely worn out!
