Do siblings who share the same set of parents each have the same distribution of parental DNA? Can one sibling have more of one parent's DNA or would the parental DNA distribution be equal?
First question: No, they do not.Reason: Recombination. Before an egg precursor cell splits a full set of paired DNA (diploid) into two egg cells with one set of DNA (haploid), the complementary DNA are somewhat randomly cut up and chunks swapped between them.Since this happens separately for each cell before it splits, each egg has a different mix of DNA in the chromosomes. The same thing happens when sperm are created in the male.So your mother got one set of DNA from her mother, and the other from her father. But when the egg is split into a haploid cell, any given chromosome consists of a mix of DNA from the chromosomes she received from her mother and her father. So you cannot say that, say, a chromosome that you received from your mother, came from your grandmother. Instead, it will be a mix of DNA from both your grandmother and your grandfather, due to recombination. The only chromosome for which this is not true are the X andY from the father, in which case a couple's daughters share an X from the father, and the sons share the Y from the father. No other chromosomes are untouched by recombination.Second question: It depends. Number of chromosomes, or total amount of DNA?Because each egg cell has 23 chromosomes, and each sperm cell has 23 chromosomes, each sibling will have an equal number of chromosomes from each parent. However, the Y chromosome is substantially smaller than the X chromosome, so technically girls have more DNA from their father than boys do.There are the somewhat rare cases of a boy inheriting two Y chromosomes from the father. Other mutations/mistakes involving multiple chromosomes don't seem to survive to birth.Thank you, Dan Theman, for correcting something I’d said about XYY. Despite what I’d been told long ago and the “popular wisdom”, there does not seem to be any particular correlation between XYY syndrome and any particular difficulties in behavior, intelligence, learning, or aggressive behavior.XYY syndrome - Wikipedia
Boy/girl sibling set baby name combinations - pick your favorite!?
For BRONTE, I would prefer the middle name Spencer James, just because I adore the name James [seeing as that's my boyfriends name] and I think it flows the best. I don't necessarily love the name Spencer, but Bronte Spencer James flows right off the tongue. However, I would consider the surname that would be in use, and then go from there. I would rate Bronte Spencer James an 8/10. My next choice for a middle name would've been Bronte Isaac, I still can't tell whether I prefer Bronte Spencer James or Bronte Isaac. For ISAAC, I would choose the name James. And no, not because I am biased, I adore the name Lachlan too. I just think the two "k" sounds in the name clash a bit, where Isaac James flows nicely. I would give it a 9/10. For ARCHER, I would choose Archer Landon, seeing as I think there needs to be a 2 or 3 syllable name after Archer. I'd give it an 8/10. For HARLOW, I would choose Harlow Isla Claire, because again, I think the two middle names accompany Harlow well and flow quite nicely. Again, I would keep in mind the surname, just to make sure it sounds good. However, I think Harlow Lilah Claire would sound even nicer. Harlow Isla Claire-- 9/10. For THALIA, I would choose Rose Marie, but instead just do Thalia Rosemarie, since they just go together in any case. I think a multiple syllable middle name would work best with Thalia. 8/10 For TAHLIA, I would choose Indigo, just because I think Tahlia Indigo flows nicely. 8/10 ...I do not like October Harlow in the least for a baby girl. As for your pronunciations, I was always under the impression that BRONTE was pronounced BRON-TAY. But to each their own, I guess. And I was never aware that Thalia and Tahlia we're pronounced differently. My favorite boys combination out of them all is ARCHER LANDON, but if I could mix them around, I would definitely choose Archer James. My favorite girls combination out of them all would definitely be Harlow Isla Claire, but if I could change something, I would make it Harlow Lilah Claire. Sib-set: Harlow Lilah, Archer Landon & Isaac Lachlan. [just to go with the "L" middle name first initial seeing as it had worked for Harlow and Archer and it sounded the best together]

What do you think of these names for fictional siblings (Country)?
Tucker Milo Flynn Whitlock- Tucker is definitly country to me. i actually like that name. Milo is NOT country to me at all. it's more eccentric and/or old fashion. Flynn is a bit more 'modern' to me not country. Country w/the name Tucker to me would be something like Tucker Mason Finn Whitlock. I like Tucker and Flynn. I dont care for Milo. Reilly Felix Blaine Whitlock- i prefer it Riley. (one L). Riley could be 'country' to me. Felix is not. Felix to me is more bohemian and/or artistic, i think "artist living in a New York flat". Blaine to me could be country though. I think Riley Ferris Blaine sounds country. I like Riley and Blaine. I dont care for Felix. Elliott Gunther Bleu Whitlock- Elliott i dont find country at all. it's more upper-class to me. Eli sound country. Eli Gunther Bleu sounds like a super redneck! LOL i dont like Gunther. I like Elliot and Bleu. Tatum Avery Lane- I dont like Tatum on boys. Avery to me is preppy not country. Lane is most definitly country (reminds me of Lane Frost- the bullrider). Tucker would work here too, but you've already got that so- Tanner Asa Lane would be awesome! that sounds like a cowboy for sure. (Asa- said A-suh). I like Tatum for girls. I like Avery and I like Lane. Annabel Poppy Clara- Annabel i prefer spelled Anabel. I dont really find it country though for some reason i find it more i dunno.....uh.....classic. country A name...um.....Alma! Alma Penny Cloris. i just dont think Annabel Poppy Clara is country at all, it sounds like a girl that lives in the UK. Alma Penny Cloris sounds like a farmgirl. I like Anabel, i love Poppy, and Clara is lovely. BQ: well i listed some examples already but...ill list more: bothers: Tanner Jay Douglas Whitlock Hunter Mason Lee Whitlock Colter Alec Wayne Whitlock Betty Viola Ann Whitlock BQ2: I listed that already up there Tucker Mason Finn BQ3: Whitlock is fine. Seperating siblings during adoption?
I agree that if at all possible siblings should be kept together. However, you need to consider logistics sometimes. Sometimes just one child is placed for adoption (a mother already has 3 children and doesn't feel she can take care of a 4th, or the first child of a mother is placed but subsequent children are not). I also feel quite strongly that if a child is placed and future siblings (half siblings) yet to be born are going to be placed, the adoptive parents of the first child should be contacted. It would be better for both the children to be placed with biological siblings. In regards to marrying relatives, it can get dicey. Sometimes the birthfather is an unknown factor and may have fathered many children with many women. I hate to think of adding one more burden to adoptees, but maybe genetic testing prior to marriage if there is any question is in order. Certainly this situation is a good argument for open records!!!
