Which Chemical Can Be Used To De-saturate Wool/silk

How can I dye a sweater in a cheap and efficient manner?

I did this once, many years ago. A friend gave me a hand knit sweater her mother had made because she never wore it anymore. It was 100% wool in a pale blue color. I dyed it a deep royal purple, changed the buttons, and wore it for years. I think she wanted it back but she never had the nerve to ask.The sweater must be a natural fiber, or the dye will not take.First, wash the sweater in a gentle detergent and rinse it very thoroughly. Get a clean bucket (a new bucket is best) and fill it up with very hot water and your preferred shade of Rit dye. Follow the label directions for the amount of dye to use, depending on how saturated you want the final color to be. Mix very well, using a clean wooden stick or a long handled stainless steel spoon. Now take your clean wet natural fiber sweater and put it slowly into the bucket. Use the stick or spoon to push down the sweater into the dyebath so it is completely submerged. Leave it there a good long time, according to the label directions, stirring occasionally and making sure it stays submerged. Now place the bucket into a shower or bathtub area and pour out as much of the dyebath as you can. Rinse the area immediately so you don't dye your tub or shower, and begin running warm water into the bucket until the spilloff is completely clear. Then wash the sweater again, gently, with gentle detergent, and let it air dry.Voila! Nicely dyed sweater. If you have access to a washing machine you can also wash and dye the sweater in the machine. After you have completely finished and removed the sweater, run an empty load with the maximum volume of water and a cup of chlorine bleach to get the dye out of the innards of the washing machine. Good luck!

At what temperature will cotton ignite?

(R-t-A).Q: “At what temperature will cotton ignite?”Cotton is a plant-based natural material made of mainly cellulose and some fractions of other materials, like lignin. Chemical cellulose is usually pure cellulose as other non-cellulosic components were separated in the refining process. The ignition temperature of cellulose depends on some factors, such as presence of oily contaminants and other materials and environmental factors. Various temperatures have been measured and reported for self-ignition of refined cotton (pure cellulose with no contamination) as 201–304 deg C, depending on the thickness of the sample (Reference: Mitchell ND. NFPA Quarterly. 1951;45(2):165–172.)Cotton (and other cellulosic materials) can also spontaneously ignite as a result of water adsorption and desorption, which builds up heat and increases temperature. This cyclic process is an exothermic, generating heat and increasing temperature. Fire events usually accidentally happens in the storage rooms of cotton and cause fire and huge damages.
