What is the current age range for "elderly"?
Well the end of the age range is death. So we have half that question definitely answered.I am 70. But really nothing much has changed for 20 years. So surely this can’t be what is meant by ‘elderly’ or even’ old’. My husband is 73 and nothing much has changed for 25 years other than a heart attack. So what IS elderly?We are currently living our lives and traveling fo 18 months nonstop, figuring that after 75 things might change and we might not be able to continue our lifestyle. Our current lifestyle includes 5–8 miles of walking a day going to the gym when we can find one, dancing as many nights as week as w can find it currently 4 nights a week). We just sold our house and are travel 12 months a year. That doesn’t sound like my mother’s ‘elderly.”Here we are on a 5 miles walk last week.Update:I have been thinking about this question after I answered it. I am am starting to come up with some additional answers.I think ‘elderly’ might begin when a person starts to take medications regularly. And when taking a trip you need to take your regular medicines. Update to that update a year later: nah, that ain’t it.2. I am very physically fit…for a person my of age but do notice some differences. When i walk or hike I am more careful of where I step than younger people do. Everyone else seemed to be +-80 except us. the woman in front of me had mild dementia and asked her husband 4 or 5 times if they had to paddle back o our starting point. On land he held her hand to make sure she didn’t wander off. I would call them ‘elderly’.And again it made me question, what label is appropriate for me? I am now 71. I went canoeing this morning, took a brief nap (I think I was dehydrated), then went to the gym and tonight I am going out dancing for 3+ hours.So like you I have to ask, ‘ what age range fits the term, ‘elderly’.” and I think the answer is not an age. It is a skill level, a physical fitness level, and a mental acuity level, Are 80 year old yoga teachers elderly? What about 90 year old dancers? Do you notice that kids in this generation look younger than they look?
No, your class is not the last class to look old. It's definitely my class, the class of 2013. I am suffering through exactly what you are it's actually scary. Like ever since kindergarten, I've always had an immature class (we were born in 1995 in case that matters) and now here I am at my senior year and we all still look and act like middle schoolers. Like I feel like the class that just graduated, the class of kids born from 1993-1994 were so much more mature and adult-like than us in both looks and attitude, and ready to move on to college. Idk this always annoys me because I hate looking young and want to look like how the seniors of last classes did haha. And the senior classes I'm comparing myself to don't even look half as old as the ones from when my parents were in high school! Like they all looked so cool whereas we look and act 13-14.but yea anyway, I completely understand and have no idea why this phenomenon is happening, and it is only getting worse. Like the freshmen this year look like 6th graders. Like by the time they graduate I feel like high school is just going to be a second elementary school with people giving out toy cars and **** at graduation. Maybe it's something in the water, maybe malnutrition, or maybe it's just better medicine as time goes on meaning well look younger for our whole lives and therefore live longer :)
Age difference between husband and wife?
The problem is, on the average, women live about 5-7 years longer then men. So when you think about that, chances are your step dad will die long before your mom does. Also he will start having old age health problems long before she does and she will end up taking care of him. In 10 years, your step dad will be retired and collecting social security and your mom will only be 51 and have to support and take care of him. I personally think it makes more sense for a woman who is 41 to marry a man who is 35 years old. I'm in the medical field and take care of sick elderly people. The last thing I want to do is come home from work every day and take care of an elderly husband. I guess your mom hasn't done the math and realized yet what her future holds for her. But she's in love and she doesn't see the age difference. I'm sure there is nothing you can say that will make her see that she has made a mistake. She will have to see it for herself as her husband gets older.
