It makes them more resistant to wear and tear, you can pretty much clean them, lubricate them and they’ll be as good as new, they will last for years and years to come, and they can be tightened in a wider spectrum without doing any harm to it’s core, springs, or inner mechanisms.High-end cubes can also be tweaked, filed, and otherwise modified while retaining it’s amazing properties. Unlike cars, which older models can be totally reworked and newer models have more complicated electronics which make them less feasible to work with, for cubes it’s a different story. A good professional cube, can be lubricated and tuned to suit your speedcubing style, as loose and fast or as tight and steady as you want them to be, you can even add small magnets or do all sorts of interesting modifications. And then will still remain top-notch.In contrast, cheap cubes last nothing, won’t survive a good bumping session, won’t accept any modifications (or will easily yield and/or break when manipulated), and they are not good for competitive speedcubing. You need a lot of work to get them to a decent standard, and still, they won’t last as long. Nowadays there’s affordable high end cubes everywhere, you shouldn’t settle for less for your main cubes.
