Which Motherboard Shall I Buy Specs Included

How do i buy a motherboard?

My husband built our latest desktop and was very pleased with the products and service at newegg, motherboard products in link below:

What do the CPU/Motherboard specs mean?

I'm not being funny, you just don't become a Computer geek overnight.

I could point you in the direction of hundreds of books, thousands upon thousands of articles from newspapers, magazines, on the net...etc. Personal discussions, years of experience, forums and deep fried chipsets. The problem is that you would take more time than you have to get through them.

The best thing that I can think of is pointing you in the direction of a newstand magazine's web site.

Just as there are a lot of magazines out there on the shelves, so there are a lot of websites with information that you seek - the problem is finding the information pitched at the right level.

http://www.computeractive.co.uk/

This site is aimed straight between the eyes of the newbie. Someone who may have used a computer for the odd game or perhaps to write a letter or an email - nothing too deep and taxing. It is a great place to gain some bearings on what makes a computer and how it works.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/pc.htm

Howstuffworks.com is aimed again at the newbie. As with Computeractive above, it keeps everything in really easy to understand terms.

You say you "need to know..." the problem is that the sales staff who are selling you the computers don't always know enough to answer your questions either fully or honestly. People in sales have their targets and monthly commissions on their mind, not customer service.

You have to decide what you are looking for first.

Is it going to be a games platform to fry the eyeballs of your buddies and pals with some screamingly cutting-edge gameplay? [Think fast CPU with an expensive graphics card and lots of memory) 5/5 for cost

Maybe you need something portable but really simple, for writing letters, emails and surfing the web. (Think netbook here). 2/5 for cost

OR - maybe you need something portable, but while capable of writing letters, surfing the web, etc - but you want to be able to play a reasonably good range of games... think laptop. 3-4/5 for cost

If you know anybody who has a computer - ask them lots of questions about reliability, the quality and cost of tec-support lines, how long they've had their machine - any problems... any special features that they like...

When you go to buy your machine - take someone who knows more than you do!

Where can i get motherboard specs for my Gateway DX-4831 desktop PC?

I bought a Gateway PC recently and i like it, but i want to know down the road what kind of CPU it will accept. I already know it has 6 gb of RAM which can be upgraded to 8 gb. From what i checked through Diagnostic Software, it has a Intel H57 chipset, if that helps anyone...

What motherboard should I buy?

If the processor you're buying is the I5 4690K then that means you want to overclock it eventually else there's no point in buying the unlocked version and you'll save 20-30$. If you do want to overclock then you must buy a motherboard good enough to overclock it safely.I personally recommend the Z87 and the Z97, I got a Z97 myself, read this article, it'll help you decide along with giving you a few more options:What is the Best Motherboard for I5 4690k in 2016?

I need specs for a mother board for a compaq presario model 5003US?

Can anyone give me a website to get the appropriate specs for a motherboard for a Compaq Presario 5003 US? I put the information below in caps so they stand out in case someone wants to help. I'm not yelling.

hAS TO HOLD A PENTIUM 3 WITH MINIMUM 128 MB RAM
11MB ALLOCATED FOR VIDEO MEMORY
40 GB HARD DRIVE CD-R/W AND DVD-ROM
10/100Mb PCI NIC CARD

SO ANYWAY IF SOMEONE CAN EITHER FIND THE BRAND AND SERIAL FOR THE CORRECT MOTHERBOARD OR A WEBSITE FOR A SUBSTITUTE I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. HP'S SITE DOESNT SUPPORT THIS OLD OF A COMPAQ. THANKS

What does 'ddr standard: ddr 400' mean, in motherboard specs?

I was wondering what this means when looking at motherboard specs. Can I put DDR 433 and higher chips in it?
I have a fairly recent motherboard, Asus A8N-SLI deluxe. I would think it would take higher than ddr400.
All I have in it right now are ddr400 chips. I'd like to have faster ram. Can I run DDR2? I have been to newegg, I don't see any motherboards that specifically say they 'support' ddr2. Is it strictly for intel-compatible motherboards?

Please provide an answer with some background. Thanks!

My laptop's motherboard is dead. I need to change it. Will the laptop work the same after changing the motherboard?

Yes! Your laptop will definitely work the same as long as the motherboard replacement you buy has the same specifications as the old motherboard. For you to make sure you get the exact same motherboard, you will need to get the part number from the original motherboard. But, if you wish to upgrade the motherboard, you better contact your laptop manufacturer so they can give you motherboard part numbers that will be compatible to your laptop. You can buy parts from Replacement Parts For Laptop Repair as they have original parts. I hope it helps resolve your problem

Are military-spec motherboards (or other electronics) actually of higher build quality or is it just marketing hype?

It is more robust in it’s usage . It can take a rougher environment perimeters than a consumer unit would . Higher and lower temps for operation , resistance to shock and rough handling , resistance to electrical interference , and basically overbuilding of the components .

What Onboard Motherboard should I buy for HP Pavillion p7-1154?

Because it's a brand-name machine you cannot replace the motherboard.

Well, you can, but doing so means you'd have to buy another copy of Windows, which would cost you another $100.

The versions of Windows which come factory-installed on brand-name machines like HP, Dell, Acer, Gateway etc are OEM versions. That means they are vald only for the machine that they originally were sold with. OEM licenses cannot be transferred to a different computer and won't re-activate on a diferent motherboard. That's why Microsoft sells OEM versions for less than retail versions, because of the one-shot licensing restriction.

So your upgrade options are limited to whatever your current motherboard can accept. If you replace the motherboard in an HP computer, it's no longer considered an HP. Their System Recovery program wouldn't work any more.

I need a new motherboard for my Hp Pavilion P6230y . Which do i buy?

The 785G based boards are almost all gone. The few around are mostly DDR2 not as you need DDR3. I would look at something like these:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ProductList...

The listing as of post date is for the 880G chipset which is socket compatible with your box. All will work. The Foxconn is the only one with 4 RAM slots, if that is important. My first choice would be the ASROCK due to past experience with several models. An additional bonus here is these boards are all AM3+, so you can run the Piledriver and Bulldozer CPUs. Nice to have an upgrade path. The only real drawback I can see is 2 of the 3 only have 2 RAM slots and as such only support up to 8 GB DDR3. Prices are good. I may even buy one as a back up for my server.

Swapping out a motherboard can create a problem or 16 with Windows. You may do well to re-install or as I do back up your old drive with a disk image and then try and run the new board to see if it will get past being reactivated. I heartily wish you the best of luck with this.
