Baby girl name: Eva or Ava?
I'm pregnant and going to have a little girl here soon! Her last name is Caron. (If that makes any difference.) I love the name Eva (EE-VUH) I like it better than I like Ava (A-VUH) but they are both beautiful names to me. Which one is better, Eva or Ava? I think the middle name is going to be Marie. Which is better, Ava or Eve (Evie)?
I like them both the same. They both are classic, simple, and beautiful. I might say Ava is a little more trendy, and Eve is a little more classic. There may be another Ava in her class growing up, but probably not another Eve. But...Ava has a beautiful flow. So, this one is hard for me! Different spellings of Eva?
In my description, I did mention that I had already noticed the names were similar. My niece's name is Evelyn, nickname Evey, pronounced Eh-vee. Eva's name would be pronouced Eve (as in Adam and Eve) ah. It is similar to Ava, but I prefer the look of it spelt with an A. I do like Eva's original spelling, but I was just looking for other options. Thank you to those who took this question seriously, and for being kind about your liking or discontention of the name.
Eva can be pronounced 4 different ways. Which pronunciation do YOU prefer?
Well, maybe it CAN be pronounced multiple ways, but the other ways don't scream "correct" to me at all. They just seem like... other names... Ava and Aoife, anyway. I'm dull, I prefer the ever-so-popularizing ee-vah. Most likely because that's how the majority of people will pronounce it upon first glance. Along with that, everyone would spell it wrong upon hearing it. Of course, Americans probably won't get Aoife right, but when they hear "ay-vah" how would the spell it? Of course, Ava is popular enough to be recognized. Along with that, I prefer the sound of Ava to Eva. Eva just sounds somewhat less soft than Ava to me... While Ava transitions increasingly well. eh-vah sounds like the wangster pronunciation of "ever" to me (wangster = wanna-be gangster). So, I'd have to stick with ee-vah. Classy and simple. :) -- Amy
