What movies would you recommend for a teen that have a philosophical message?

Jewel In The Palace (Daejanggeum) is a drama series - not a movie - but it does wonders with its philosophical messages! It says everything from how "we need to open up to new ideas and give up our conservative ways" to how the world is far from being a utopia but hate and fear can be conquered by empathy and forgiveness, to how everything that happens is an opportunity for us to grow even if it seems to be in our way.

The overriding message is the power of love - for the ones closest to us, for the world and all its people, for the things we do, for the people we once did not understand. However controversial we know our decisions will be, whatever we have to go through...it is never wrong to make our decisions based on love.

Jewel In The Palace makes an interesting cultural experience too- it's set in 14th century Korea. That, on top of a wonderful plotline and brilliant characterisation greatly sensitive to the human experience. You will find yourself crying buckets and laughing till your sides hurt. Believe me it's well worth a watch!

What movies/books would you recommend for me to read/watch?

This is from my answer to What are some of the best foreign movies to watch?Among the better recent Israeli films, I understand Zero Motivation isn't too hard to find (although I hope the movie is translated better than the trailer is).Another couple of good recent ones from Israel are Hill Start and Orange People. I hear the foreign press also liked Cupcakes; but I didn't.And here are some other Israeli movies, from answers of mine that were merged and collapsed. They’re all highly worth watching:Not to forget— Dancing Arabs (2014) — About being an Arab among Jerusalem Jews Farewell Baghdad (2013) — About being Jewish in Iraq Restoration (2011) — About the hard life of a middle-aged artisan in Tel Aviv HaBodedim (2009) ("The Loners") — About soldiers whose luck takes a bad turn A Place in Heaven (2013) — A neo-Biblical fable Fill the Void (2012) — About the ultra-Orthodox The World Is Funny (2012) — About eccentric folks in Tiberias Balada le'aviv ha'bohe (2012) ("Ballad of the Weeping Spring") — A salute to Mideastern music, but with a plot patterned on spaghetti westerns Afterthought (2015) — About coming to grips with oneself on the outdoor stairways of Haifa

Can you recommend a good old movie for me to watch?

These 2 are my favorite:1. To sir, with love (1967) Mark, an out-of-work engineer, takes up a teaching job at a high school in London's East End. Unaffected by the rowdy students, Mark implements his own brand of discipline in class. 2.The breakfast club(1985)The storyline follows five teenagers, each a member of a different high school clique, who spend a Saturday in detention together and come to realize that they are all more than their respective stereotypes, while facing a strict disciplinarian principal. Please upvote if you like/agree with me :)

What non-SJW movies would you recommend?

I think you're taking it too seriously. Whatever propaganda is in the movie shouldn't affect how much you like the movie. Just ignore the propaganda and judge the movie for its entertainment value.
Including SJW propaganda in a movie shouldn't be considered a problem if the movie itself is good (the people who made the movie have their opinions and they are free to express their opinions even if their opinion makes them seem like they're retarded), it's only a problem when the people making the movie stop trying to make good movies and start trying to just push propaganda on people and try to disguise that propaganda as movies. That happens and it's attempted more often than it should be but when it happens then these 'movies' should just be allowed to fail which they almost certainly will, because this almost never leads to good movies and if it does become a good movie then it'll still be a good movie even if the message it's trying to deliver is bullshit.

So I would recommend to just watch good movies and avoid movies that have reviews which focus solely on it being a 'feminist' movie, although feminists will also review movies through the feminist lens so just because a feminist likes a movie doesn't mean that it's a bad movie either. So try to keep an open mind (even if your opposition doesn't) and remember that the reason you watch movies isn't because you're expecting to have everyone in them agree with you.

If you insist on watching only good movies then watch top rated movies of all time, SJW movies get SJWs excited at first but they won't stand the test of time, so if a movie is a few years old and is still highly rated then it's most likely a movie that is actually good.

What movie would you recommend people watch if they wanted to know what it was like to be an American?

My votes...National Lampoon's Vacation - a quintessential look at the "American" holiday through Clark Griswald and his family. Explores the relationships within the family structure and travels across America to a giant American theme park, which is a large percentage of where children want to go at some point in their American childhood. The raunchy and slap stick humor, I think, is uniquely American.Dazed and Confused - a slice of life look at high school students from the last day of school in 1976.
