West Indies notched up a competitive total of 257/6, with 72 from Keith Arthurton and 65 from Phil Simmons.Manoj Prabhakar and Sachin Tendulkar were the openers for India.The strategy formulated beforehand in the dressing room was that Prabhakar would anchor the innings, while the rest of the batsman would attack the other bowlers, with the exception of Courtney Walsh, whom they were to play cautiously.India started off well, with Tendulkar hitting 7 boundaries en route to his 34. When he was dismissed, India were 56/1.India had had a good start; now they were looking to accelerate. However, what followed was some inexplicable cricket, as Prabhakar started hogging up all the balls, and No.3 Navjot Sidhu could not get on strike. Sidhu was eventually run out, having faced just 5 balls in his 28-minute stay.Azharuddin and Kambli tried to attack, but neither was very successful, and both got dismissed in their attempts.
