Which Volume Developer Should I Use

How much 20 volume developer should i use?

The same amount as the color, exactly 2oz *

Should I use a 10 volume developer or a 20 volume developer for darker hair?

Angelina Ieraci had a good answer AND she’s a hairdresser. I’m not, fwiw, but I can add a few things my stylist taught me. You likely will need 20 volume developer if you’re covering resistant greys (and also permanent color). Then, when refreshing the ends with color, you can (and probably should) use 10 volume. It’ll keep your hair in better condition and, ironically, will be less likely to fade off, as your hair won’t get overly porous, as it might with repeated use of 20 volume.I use Wella Color Charm permanent color, and use it as described above, even though the instructions say to use 20 volume. When mixing my color for the ends I use 10 volume, and it works great, even though the Wella telephone consultants said the color isn’t formulated to use that way. And Wella doesn’t sell a 10 volume developer, but you can make it from your 10 volume, by mixing with an equal amount of water (I suggest distilled) OR using another brand that does make 10 volume. Also, for refreshing color on the ends, you only need to leave the color on for a fraction of the time they instructions say.About the instructions for coloring your hair, they seem to be written for first-time color on virgin hair and not subsequent applications on hair that is already chemically treated. You didn’t say if your natural color is “darker” or if that is your target color. When lifting color to a lighter shade, you need a higher (stronger) volume developer. For going blond, you may even need 40 volume or higher.Oh, and fwiw, I buy my own color, but my stylist does (applies) my color. No more diy hair color for me, I learned the hard way.

Can I use 30 volume developer to dye hair black?

The simple answer is YES, you can color your hair black with 30 vol. developer. HOWEVER, I would not recommend it. As the higher volume developer may bleach-out some of the color and cause the result to be a softer black with red or ashy tones and the color may fade too quickly.

The best solution for this problem: Pour one and one half ounces of the 30 vol. developer into the applicator or bowl and add one half ounce water or conditioner to bring the vol. DOWN to 20 vol. and add the 2 Oz. color apply as usual.

Hope This Helps.
Good-Luck!!

Which volume developer should I use, 20 or 30?

My hair is naturaly level 3 (darkish brown), and dyed to Ion Color Brilliance 'Dark Red Brown 3R-3.6'. I want to dye it to 'Medium Brown 4R-4.6'. I'm not sure if I should use a 20 volume developer or a 30 volume developer. I usually use this chart, but since the color level is 4.6, I'm kind of caught between two choices.

Also, should I use a color remover since it's only one shade lighter?

What volume developer should I use for highlights, 20 or 30?

My hair is naturally light/honey brown and I went to get it highlighted yesterday and the stylist put light blonde/ natural highlights in my hair and he used developer 20 and when he washed it off I barely saw the highlights bc it blended into my natural hair color and he only did partial highlights. It's visible in the sunlight and regular yellow light. He said next time to make it Lighter and visible he will use developer 30, now what's the difference? Will 30 make the highlights more visible? Or should i tell him to just make the highlights a different color that's more visible? He said the highlights match me and my skin tone but it will become lighter with developer 30? Is this true? Help pls I don't want to pay extra if they won't be visible

50 Volume Hair Color Developer?

I think that it is for people that want a fast product that will work super fast. The thing with developers is that all developers will lift the same amount the only difference between them is the time it takes to lift the hair. Some hair requires a higher volume though because it is very resistant and will not lift past a certain level no matter what they try.

Should i use a 10 volume developer or 20 in order to dye my light brown hair a darker brown?

im a Professional,
ten volume is PERMANENT
semi perm colors have there own processing solution
the 10 20 30 40 stands for how much hydrogen peroxide is in the developer
the hydrogen peroxide is what opens the hair shaft
we use a higher developer on more resistant hair
for example...gray hair
10 volume is what you need to use
mixt it a 1:1 ratio unless the manufacturer suggests otherwise

If I use 40 volume developer and leave it less long does it do the same damage as a 30 volume developer (if you lighten the same amount)?

the more slowly you lift hair, the less yellow it tends to expose. I usually start with 10vol and bump up as needed. I rarely use anything over 20vol except for very specific situations. I especially would not recommend putting 40vol on your scalp. its totally unnecessary and can cause blistering.basically hair lightened the same amount with something lower will look creamier and less “raw”you may not notice the difference so much between 30 and 40 vol, but if you could find the patience to use 10–20 vol, your results will be nicer. just make sure to keep it wet and not allow it to dry out while its processing, put something like a bag over to incubate it. if you are doing the whole head, try to work quickly and put 10 vol on your scalp for about an inch, and then use 20vol on the rest. the heat from your head will assist the lifting of the 10vol and result it your process looking more even overall.bleaching hair with 40vol is like using a shotgun to kill a fly.

Should I use 20 or 30 volume developer when lightening from a level 5?

Maybe go for 30 Volume Developer. 30 Volume can lighten up to 3–4 shade while 20 Volume can lighten up to 1–2 shade. You can get any Developer at any beauty supplies store.
