What is the revenue model of TV shows?

A production house is an organization that looks after the pre- and post-production needs along with the shooting set-up and can be involved with the production of content which includes everything from television news, television series, commercials (advertisements) to sports footage etc. A production house not just caters to the content demanded within the M&E industry, but also to high-profile personal or public media events and functions such as launch parties to promote their content . In return of all that investment they generate their revenues by selling the on air rights to a cable network or broadcast network companies. sometimes they sell internet rights to companies like iTunes, Hulu, Netflix etc. then comes the earnings from merch which includes Tees, Mugs whatever......On the other hand the majority of a cable network's revenue comes from fees paid by cable and satellite providers. Comcast and Time Warner are the largest in cable, but there are also many other smaller, local cable providers. DirecTV is the big player in satellite. These cable/satellite providers pay cable networks a monthly fee for each subscriber. According to Broadcasting & Cable, providers pay for each channel that they offer to customers. In addition to these fees, cable networks also air ads during their programs so they get revenue from advertisers.

What's the revenue model for reality TV shows?

We produce several different reality TV series for various networks.Generally, they set the price and the production company/producer makes the show for the budget they give the production company/producer. Like most other entertainment producers, you need to know how to do "design-to-cost" projects and wrap your production around the budget.Every network will make different deals for any (if any) residuals. If you are big enough and have a popular show you can negotiate anything. I've negotiated residuals in the past.

How much are the models on deal or no deal paid?

IIRC, some of the girls earn up to $200k per year but much of that is not from the actual aired episodes. There is a ton of marketing and public appearances and almost all of the girls model or act on the side. Also, DonD model contracts require them to spend an enormous amount of time committed to the show (not necessarily just to filming).

I've heard from the grapevine as low as $250 per episode (could be filmed, not necessarily aired) and as high as a few thousand.

USA Today says production costs per (aired?) episode run at around $700k and the largest expenses are talent (Howie and the models). My guess is that around $3k per episode is reasonable to assume.

What TV show or movie character is a good role model to you personally and why?

Harvey Specter (Suits)I wouldn’t say he is my role-model, because he is a fictional character created in order to attract the show’s audience. But I try to grasp or follow a few aspects from him.The “Never Give Up” Attitude —In the TV show, Harvey is known to be a very successful lawyer, mostly because he always gets his job done. He takes up a case, reaches a dead end, a point in which most of them would give up. But he puts some extra effort which would eventually pave way for his success at the end.People may or may not notice that extra effort but that’s all that matters in the end. Sooner or later those extra hours you put for completing a job WILL eventually pay off.2. The “I don’t give a sh*t” Attitude —Being an adult, we would have experienced that people often judge and undermine our decisions. Also, we often worry about “What others might think” and we end up forgetting our own dreams and ambitions. Harvey sums up this in a dialogue.Don’t base your decisions on the advice of those who don’t have to bear the consequences.&Ever loved someone so much that you’d do anything for them ?Well, make that someone yourself and do whatever the hell you want.3. The Importance of Being Loyal —Relationships are often built on the level of trust for each other. Be it your boss, your friend or your partner. The entire show is based on how the leaders of a law firm, trust each other with their own secrets.I especially admire the relationship between Harvey and Ross. At a certain point they were willing to go to jail for each other.
