Who Can Give Me Some Insight On Conquering Depression

Am i a strong person for battling and overcoming depression?

Going through depression gives you more insight into the mind/body connection. You learn more about how your physical state affects your mental state, and how your mental state affects your physical state. You learn how everything you do in life, from eating junk food, to exercising, to drinking a cup of coffee or having a glass of wine, to taking a nap or sleeping with a nightlight, painting a picture, can affect your body and affect your mind and moods. And, with that knowledge comes control. You can learn to consciously control some of these behaviors to get the outcomes that you desire.

It gives you a vocabulary for what you are thinking (paranoia, depression, anxiety, racing thoughts..) and opens the door to an understanding of other mood disorders. As you learn more, you can recognize mood issues in people around you, and it then helps you to make better decisions on how to interact with people, because you have a better understanding of what is driving their behavior.

It helps you become a more understanding and forgiving person. When you begin to recognize how many people around us struggle with mood disorders, you can learn to have compassion for people whose behavior seems inexcusable, because you may see an underlying mood disorder and understand that it is always a struggle and we all have good days and bad days. While I found Mel Gibson's behavior absolutely abhorrent, I could also clearly see a severe mood disorder, and the sadness and tremendous strain on his face when he's trying to talk about it).

One of the most helpful things it did for me was to help me to develop a concious awareness of personal boundaries. It helped me to understand where the stressors exist in life, and how I can manage my exposure to them. It helped me understand how guilt and anxiety are related to authority and responsibility, which helped me to give up guilt and anxiety for things over which I had no authority or responsibility.

How to stop cutting / get over depression?

First of all, I'm AMAZED by how many responses I've gotten and I'm sorry I can't reply individually to you all. Thank you, guys. Means a lot (even if you're just replying for points, or whatever).

I'm definitely seeing a common theme in almost everyone's replies: I need to tell someone. I really do not want to... I don't want to make my parents or anyone angry or upset. No one else deserves that, only I do, it's my problem. But if things get even worse I'll probably have to tell someone.

And for everyone that keeps telling me I'm too young to make decisions on God-- I'm very interested in religion, and I've learned a lot about Christianity. I talk to many Christians over the internet for quite some time and I think I've learned enough to come to the conclusion that I do not believe in God. (and, yes, I have tried believing in Him).

Which Fire Sign Is Easily Depressed?

When it comes to fire signs, Leos are generally the ones who get emotionally depressed the most because they are very heart-oriented people. Those ruled by their hearts like Leo are more emotional than the others who are ruled by their heads. Aries and Sagittarius are both signs who are ruled by their heads, so emotion to them comes and goes much quicker. They aren't ones to stew on their feelings. They get over emotions quicker.
My moon sign is Scorpio, so my emotions are extreme and intense, and that's what can depress me the most when I am feeling sad. The bad thing about this is that my sun is Aquarius and so is my rising, so emotions are VERY uncomfortable to me. It's an Aquarian's job though to learn to be comfortable with emotion so that they can live healthier lives.
I've been learning about emotion for the past year, and it's still difficult to me, but you know what? So worth the effort. People respect you much more when you're confident with your feelings and express them, instead of locking them inside and dealing with them every three moons. When you do that, people tend to think that you're an emotional wreck.

How did art and architecture change during the great depression?

this was a serious change for america and its artists, because of the depression most artists were finding themselves unemployed and starving, hence the name starving artists. even a move by the government was to start what they called the New Deal which was a program to help employ these artists which led to mount rushmore poster art tons of murals and more. you see everyone was facing turmoil and yet there was a light that drove people which was their spirit to survive. so in art of all forms from the new jazz and musicals filling the air and radios to the great books produced it was transformed into an extreme with one end looking overly optimistic with insight and hope to the other end of the spectrum seeking escapism from the plight. we even considered the era to spawn a new style called american regionalist reflecting these feelings. in architecture we saw the grandest buildings constructed like the chrysler building and the empire state building which helped citizens to maintain their faith in the american system in a time desperation was conquering. so you see it changed art in the sense that we had both sides of the rainbow reflected back at us. those that wanted to escape would concoct waysto do so with beauty while others were more realist and would depict the scenes of life in this time. we saw an era of many new things "american" that spawned in an attempt to bring light out the darkness or to smother ourselves with our failures. it helped give us an identity as a nation with many new styles of art beit music photography fine art literature sculpting or architecture.
and for examples of work you can look at jazz by gershwin, of mice and men by steinbeck, the buildings i mentioned oh and the rockerfeller center, gutzon borglem who did mt rushmore, grant wood the sculptor, and frank lloyd wright to name a few more famous ones but there was alot more than this including the ones who kinda fell in between the 2 major art directions
