Who invented nail polish?

From an earlier answer.Nail color originated over 5000 years ago. Chinese emperors, male, first in general, colored with darker colors to designate royalty. Their women followed suit. The lower classes did too, but they were not allowed the darker colors. In the roman times, generals painted their nails, fingers and toes, blood red to indicate that hands and feet will be covered in the blood of their enemy. Lesser generals used other colors than blood red, and this was the start of regimental colors in the military. Some of their troops followed their commanders colors. Albeit a lighter shade, but it was a bond between the soldiers as to who's who. Note. Mainly men wore nail color, darker colors. The higher you were, the more rich the color allowed. After that it fell out of fashion for an unknown reason. In the 1920s it came back. Gloss natural for men of means. Because women worked hard with their hands in the house, it wasn't widely practiced. A car paint mfg thinned it down for colors, and women loved it. It held up much better, and cheap to have fun with. Thus became Revlon. By the 1940s, kodachrome color movies showed again blood red on female stars, and that was the seminal point why nail color was identified as a practice for women. It was attractive. But the fact is, nail color was originally, and primarily a male, and a royalty, or wealthy folk, practice for over 5000 years. Its only been relatively recent that there has been a strong gender focus on really what's mere physical body adornment, of a very small piece of body real estate. Change it, remove it whatever. Much better than a tattoo. And really. Anybody today can wear it, as it's just paint.
