Is Sheryl Crow the best American singer?

Probably not, no.She’s great. I really like her. But … whyever would she be the best American singer? She’s very talented, she writes good songs, and so on.You ever listened to Aretha Franklin? Jessye Norman? Luther Vandross? There’s simply no such thing as the “best” singer. How could there be? Sure, there are singers you like more than others. The only people who will agree with you about Sheryl Crow are people who like her work more than they like any other singers. There’s no objective measure of best-ness. There’s only taste. And I could name at least 100 American singers who have the edge on her technically.Still love her work though.

Examples of soprano, alto, tenor, bass pop singers?

I teach voice lessons to a young, aspiring pop singer. However, I teach from a classical point of view and in trying to explain the different voice parts (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass), I gave examples of classical singers. I used arias from Handel's Messiah (performed by the Boston Baroque) to show the differences in the pitch range and in the timbre of the different voices.

Unfortunately though, my student can't seem to get over the fact that the singers are classical performers. All she hears is something that is unappealing, instead of the actual differences. What pop stars would be good to use as an example so she understands? I hardly listen to pop music, so any help would be appreciated.

Did Gerard Butler do the singing in The Phantom of the Opera movie?

Yes he did. Here is part of a FAQ of phantom of the opera :

Did all of the actors perform their own singing?

Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Miranda Richardson, and Patrick Wilson all performed their own singing. Minni Driver did not perform her own singing for the film – her part was voiced by professional opera singer Margaret Preece, who has performed the role onstage. Driver did, however, create additional dialogue in Italian as improvisation during Carlotta’s rants. Lloyd Webber did however resolve that the cast be capable of singing their roles to a first class standard and recruited music supervisor Simon Lee to work with all the principal actors to ensure that their singing ability met Lloyd Webber’s standards.
