Who Is Favored To Win The Rivalry Game This Season Florida Or Florida State

Anyone think the yankees and red sox rivalry is overrated?

It is - there are consistently more bitter, more interesting rivalries out there. You can blame free agency for dulling most of the "hate"

Some of the better rivalries are in college sports:
Oklahoma/Texas
USC/Notre Dame
Florida/Fla. State
Miami/Fla. State
Michigan/Mich. State

Do you believe collegiate sports provide better rivalries than professional sports?

Florida State-Florida, Alabama-Auburn, Michigan-Ohio State, and stick in any other two Rival Schools for your choosing. This Saturday is Rivalry Weekend in College Football and its been an AMAZING WEEKEND!The reason?! Rabid College Fans! These people don’t follow their teams only when they are having a good year, they go down with their team, A la Titanic. I am one of those fans as Florida State’s season has been like the Titanic. Even though, with only 5 wins, I am still talking MAJOR trash to every Florida Fan that I know because, we will still get up for a game against a hated Rival. This mentality is with the players as well. If you saw the Michigan-Michigan State Game, you witnessed the distatse the two had for one another. A Michigan player during warm-ups was ripping up the Spartans Logo with his cleats which lead to an altercation between the two teams before kickoffs. This lead to a physical, chippy, mouthy game and it was the perfect example of what a rivalry should be.What Professional Teams get down the same ways that they do in College?* (Outside of Fanbases)Once players get to their respective pro leagues, out goes the nasty aspect of Rivalry games as it isn’t really supported in the pro scene. Taunting, Showboating, one-up manship can lead to dire penalties or consequences and fines. It didn’t always use to be that way in sports. For the most part, teams were groups of players that had massive chips on their shoulders and it showed in their play and their were just teams that didn’t like each other.Bulls-Pistons during the 90’s were chippy, Lakers-Celtics with Bird/Magic were fun to watch. In the NFL, Lawrence Taylor era Giants against Dallas were some slugfest games. If there are any other pro rivals that are good, let me know!Another point is that there aren’t many players anymore that carry that Rivalry/Mouthy Mentality like Rodman, Lambeer, Lawrence Taylor, Terrell Owens, etc. Most players aren’t ugly to one another and don’t have that mentality to do so.To me, College will beat the pro leagues in Rivarly status for the forseeable future.

What are the biggest professional sports rivalries?

Red Sox - Yankees: No Question! This is an epic struggle that is approaching 100 years old, starting from the infamous sale of Babe Ruth from Boston to NY after the 1918 season. Highlights: Williams v DiMaggio; the end of the 1949 season; Fisk fighting Munson at home plate in the 1970s; the vicious 1976 brawl; 1978's one-game playoff (Bucky F Dent); Pedro v Don Zimmer; Varitek v ARod; The Greatest Comeback in the History of Baseball in 2004 and on and on... What separates the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry from everything else is that for years this was also the greatest ONE-SIDED rivalry in sports. Unlike all of the others mentioned above, for years one team, the Yankees, always won. For a rivalry to be so intense yet so one-sided speaks to the never-say-die passion of Sox fans and our never-flagging hatred of everything Yankees. We longed to destroy the smug complacency of the Evil Empire with all of its glory and force it to hate us as much as we hated it - and by God we did.
