Who Should Be The Next Dr Who

Should Colin Firth be the next Doctor on Doctor Who?

No, he’s too well known.  I’d like to see a lesser known actor, or, better yet, an unknown actor take on the role.Colin Firth carries too much baggage from his past roles.  While he was great in his past roles, I don’t want Mr. Darcy or Bridget Jones’ husband as the Doctor.

Would you rather see Laurence Fox as the next Doctor for Doctor Who or do his own series Hathaway (to follow up the inspector Lewis series)?

I think a Hathaway series would be the point of diminishing returns for the Morse franchise. I hadn’t considered Lawrence Fox as a potential Doctor before, but he might work well in the role. I reckon he could convince you that he came from another planet.

Who could be a potential fit for the next Doctor if it were played by a non-white actor?

Considering that the doctor has never been played by an actor of any color but white, this is a very interesting question. Truth be told, Timelords themselves are normally white with very few exceptions as well. I think the series has made huge strides to fight against preconceived notions and stereotypes in the modern run since 2005. There have been numerous LGBT characters and people in unconventional roles for their race in historical contexts as well. Often they will have strong actors of color taking roles you might not expect in historical contexts. The creators have certainly not ruled out the idea of an actor of color or having a woman for the doctor. They have considered this possibility a few times recently.Colin Salmon was considered as a possible candidate for The Doctor as was Paterson Joseph previously. Of those two I think Joseph might be a bit too quirky for the role and Salmon possibly too serious. A good Doctor needs to be able to be scary serious and decidedly quirky. Richard Ayoade as suggested in the question details might also be a good choice if he can find the right balance. An Asian or middle eastern actor could also be as good in this role as any other race. The Doctor is a very unusual character and not an easy one to play. It is more about the combination of comedic timing and making the outlandish stories seem believable than it is about anything else. That can be a hard balance to maintain as the stories often go from silly to serious from scene to scene. I think if they did go for a non white actor they might choose someone of mixed racial heritage to try and make the choice less shocking to those not ready for such a bold change. I myself, would welcome an actor of any race or gender that can balance the serious and funny as I expressed above. Change is hard but it can be the best thing to liven something up.

Does Billie Piper (The new Dr Who girl) have an un-naturally large mouth?

yup

A Logic Puzzle -- Fans of Dr. Who should get this!?

1) The most well know solution is "If I asked your companion, the other sentinel, whether this is county A, what would he say?". Then, what ever the answer, do the opposite - i.e. if the answer is "yes" then it must mean County B
2) A more elegant solution is simply "If I WERE to ask you "Is this Country A", what would you say?" - then follow the answer, i.e. if the answer is "yes" then in is Counry A. This is obvious if the sentinel you are talking to is the truth-teller, but also works if he is the liar! (because you are not asking about the Counsy A directly but rather what he WOULD say IF you asked - the liar knows that he would lie - and lies about it!)

Who is going to be the 14th Dr Who?

Impossible to say even if there will be a 14th at this point. All I know is their little social experiment has made such a mess of the beloved show, they had better find someone amazing, or several viewers (like me) won't be coming back. And before I get any hate comments… no. I don't judge the 13th Doctor because she's a woman. I was actually intrigued and interested when it was announced. I judge the season because rather than having fun with making the Doctor a woman, and playing off this, they tried to get preachy and ram it all down our throats with racial and religious issues, as well as gender issues.

Who decides when there is going to be a new Dr. Who?

The actor, the show runner, the production company. When the actor leaves a new actor has to be hired. When the show runner decides a change is needed a change is made. When the production company decides something needs to change things change.

Eddie Redmayne won't play the Doctor in Doctor Who, but if he did, do you think he easily would be the best Doctor so far?

Not at all. I can only speak for myself, but I feel like he’s too much like Matt Smith. I’ve only seen small bits of Fantastic Beasts but I got a big Eleventh Doctor vibe from him.Doctor Who is all about new things, so polishing what’s already been done is not in tune with what the show is about. The next Doctor should be something new. Something that no other actor has tried before.
