Who Was The Conductor .

What is the name of the platform where the conductor of an orchestra stands?

There seems to be a bit of controversy among the answers to this question thus far. While “rostrum” might be the appropriate name for a speaker’s platform, in a concert hall and before an orchestra this platform in English is always, without exception, refered to as “the podium.”“Conductor Xian Zhang will replace an ailing Semyon Bychkov on the podium at Severance Hall this week and lead the Cleveland Orchestra in works by Mozart and Tchaikovsky.” -The Cleveland Plain Dealer“A conductor's podium style may be arresting, but what it all means to the music needs close study these days” -The Christian Science Monitor“In October 1900, the newly formed Wiener Concertverein, as it was called back then, gave its first public performance at the Vienna Musikverein with Ferdinand Löwe on the podium.” -Weiner Symphoniker websiteLeopold Stokowski standing on Hollywood’s idea of a conductor’s podium for the movie “One Hundred Men and a Girl.”

Charge on a conductor?

Before we put the cavity and -5nC charge in, the initial outer charge would have been +7nC.
____________
Start with a solid conductor, carrying +7nC. All of the +7nC is on the outside.

Create an empty cavity. There is zero charge in the cavity. The outside charge is still +7nC.

Add -5nC inside the cavity. There will now be an inner surface charge of +5nC (if there wasn't, the field inside the conductor would could not be zero, (from using Gauss's Law)).

In order to get +5nC on the inner surface, +5nC must have been taken from the outer surface charge, so the new outer surface charge is +2nC.

The conductor is isolated, so its total charge, however it is distributed, is fixed.

Is the human body a conductor or an insulator?

there was a question on my exam which went as follows:

If u touch a charged ball with your hand then it will lose all of it charge because: A) the human body is an insulator B) The human body is a conductor?

which one is the correct choice? and ARE YOU SURE BECAUSE I HAVE AN EXAM TOMORROW??

Would a plastic comb be an insulator or a conductor?

Plastic is an insulator because it does not conduct electricity. However, they do manufacture a plastic-metal composite material that does conduct electricity. Click on the first source link I posted below for more information.

There is also a plastic that is manufactured that does conduct electricity, but only at super cold temperatures. Click on the second source link I posted below for more information.

What is the part of the train where the conductor is called?

The locomotive engineer (train driver) operates the controls. The place where they are located is called the locomotive "cab." The conductor used to be the one responsible for the train but now the engineer and conductor jointly share this responsibility. However, when any employee is in the cab of the locomotive they are subordinate to the engineer and must obey his/her directions, provided that doing so will not result in an operating rule violation.

Addendum:

Kind of woolly today.

From the GCOR, only in pertinent part due to length:

1.47 Duties of Trainmen and Enginemen:

"The conductor and engineer are responsible for the safety and protection of their train and observance of the rules."

"If any doubts arise concerning the authority for proceeding or safety, the conductor must consult with the engineer who will be equally responsible for the safety and the proper handling of the train."

"Freight conductors are responsible for the freight carried by their train. They are also responsible for ensuring that the freight is delivered with any accompanying documents to its destination or terminals. Freight conductors must maintain any required records."

"The engineer is responsible for safely and efficiently operating the engine. Crew members must obey the engineer's instructions that concern operation of the engine."

And I don't give a damn when the conductor or anyone else says move the train. If I feel it is unsafe to do so or the conductor fails to perform his/her duty, the train will sit right where it is until the problem is rectified or I'm removed from service.

The conductor will inform the engineer of Maximum Authorized Speed. The engineer can run at any speed lower should he chose to do so for train handling concerns and the conductor is merely along for the ride, usually dozing peaceably...

Which part of the orchestra is most dependent on the conductor?

True that the horns usually get that distinction, but I would say it depends on the configuration of the orchestra. Those farthest from the conductor need to follow the most as there is the time delay for the music to reach them from those musicians playing closest to the conductor. Visual clues become all the more important. So perhaps percussion.

Who is the conductor of the frog choir in Harry Potter?

Professor Flitwick the charms teacher and the head of Rawenclaw House, is the head of the frog choir at Hogwarts.

Grumpy Old Conductors - what are YOUR experiences?

I have several horror stories.... my music teachers are nearly all EVIL!! except three of them.

Things my music teachers (as a collective group) have done:

1. Head Bang while conducting.
2. Instead of conducting like a normal person, one sat in the middle of the orchestra to hear the harmony... thankfully no one lost time.
3. Again instead of conducting like a normal person, one of the teachers insists on sitting at her harpsichord, because that was the custom several centuries ago.
4. One of them said "yes I am a perfect ******, but I have perfect pitch unlike you!" She was trying to be in with the "teenage crowd." What she didnt realise was we were laughing at her not with her. That was the only time a music teacher has ever made me cry, but that was because I was laughing so much.
5. The choir director, in our compulsory girls choir, was saying that we as singers need to open our mouths. She chose to demonstrate not by putting three fingers between her teeth to show the appropriate amount your mouth needs to be open, instead she put her whole FIST in her mouth!!!
6. One of my music teachers said to another girl (who is a rather unfortunate looking flautist) that if she continued to play her recorder as she was that she should go to (insert other music schools name here). Needless to say, she was in tears.
7. A friend of mine played a Handel piece to the class, when she was finished the teacher asked her "who was Handel?" my friend says a baroque composer. The teacher thought that this wasnt good enough and lectured the whole class about how important Handel was, and that as music students we should at least know about Handel...
8. The music teacher said that she would like to bake Handel bread. We are still trying to think if there was a secret meaning behind that, it was very disturbing.
9. A teacher said to a boy (who is a very bad singer) that he sounded like Pavarotti on crack. He actually did start crying.
10. A teacher told a very overweight girl that she was very much like playing trills on a violin... "It just takes a bit of wobbling"

My music teachers are for the most part very nice people, and they are all very good teachers. It is a shame that two of them hae to be so awful.

What was the largest orchestra ever conducted, who was the conductor and where did they perform?

In July 2016, 7,548 musicians gathered in a football stadium in Frankfurt to play for 45 minutes, conducted by Wolf Kerschek, setting the new world record for the largest orchestra, according to the World Record Academy. The giant orchestra in Germany performed excerpts from symphonies by Dvorak and Beethoven, including the "Ode to Joy", as well as a melody from the musical "Starlight Express" and a 1976 pop song by John Miles, "Music (Was My First Love)".
