Why Are Magic Mushrooms Called Shrooms

Where are magic mushrooms stored in the body?

I'm guessing what you mean is where is the hallucinogenic substance in magic mushrooms stored in the body?

Magic mushrooms of the genus Psilocybe contain a substance called psilocybin which has similar effects to LSD and Ecstacy in that it stimulates various receptors in the brain (notably those for 5-Hydroxytryptamine - 5HT) which are especially important in sleep and dreams.

Unlike some drugs, Psilocybin is not fat soluble which is why it only stays in the body a relatively short time (compared with months for cannabis). As it is water-soluble it is "stored" throughout your body dissolved in the water of your body fluids and is quite rapidly excreted in your urine.

What do "magic" mushrooms aka shrooms do to your brain?

Okay, so let's start with what's in "magic" mushrooms.
The fungi contain a hallucinogenic compound called psilocybin (a tryptamine indole, but we won't get into that). After you ingest the mushroom (that's the only method of "doing shrooms" that I'm aware of), the psilocybin will be absorbed through the lining of the mouth and the stomach. After this, the psilocybin will make its way to the liver, where it will be metabolized into psilocin (we could actually have skipped this step, as psilocin is also found naturally in magic mushrooms, but hey, the more you know...)
Now let's skip to the nervous system, for a second. In your nervous sytem, you have seratonin and seratonin receptors (5HT receptors). We shall worry about the receptors.
5HT receptors modulate the release of a whole wack of neurotransmitters and hormones, including acetylcholine, GABA, and oxytocin. Seratonin receptors play an important role in mediating neurological processes such as aggression, anxiety, appetite, cognition, learning, memory, mood, nausea, sleep, and thermoregulation.
Now, if we look at a psilocin molecule and a seratonin molecule, you'll notice they look very similar.
This tends to be a problems for our less-than sentient seratonin receptors, which honestly can't tell the difference between the two. The psilocin molecule, which is a agonist of 5HT receptors, will bind to the cell receptor.
Here we mycotoxicologists have a problem. While it IS known that serotonergic psychedelics bind to 5HT receptors to cause the effects of shrooms, it is not clear HOW this happens after binding.
The best theory that we have (and the most likely) is that it acts by increasing excitation in the cortex, possibly by specifically facilitating input from the thalamus, the major relay for sensory information input to the cortex.
This is what causes the effects of magic mushrooms.

What is it called when someone takes both acid and mushrooms at the same time?

i know its called hippy flippin when you take MDMA and shrooms and
that its candy flippin when you take MDMA and acid, but what's it called when you just take acid and shrooms at the same time? Thanks!

Magic mushrooms drug? (shrooms, mushrooms)?

My experience with them is that they are a extremely natural feeling, flow-y and spiritual drug.
The cons for them would be bad trips.
Pros is that you can bond with people more (in my experience) and you see some pretty awesome colours and shapes.

What do you call someone on shrooms?

Tara J :@)

What is tripping on both LSD and shrooms called?

[ For the guys whose answers have collapsed…it takes ~5 seconds to google “hippie flipping” – that’s most probably less than it took you to write the same stupid thing the guy before you did…]So, we now know that hippie-flipping is combining mushrooms and MDMA and candy-flipping is the combination between MDMA and LSD,; it would kind of make sense to have a fancy metaphor for the LSD and shrooms mix. While there are some set phrases roaming on various forums intended for this, there isn’t really any widely accepted term…and that’s mostly because not that many ”psychonauts” have touched those grounds.Even if you’ve done all the mentioned substances separately, you can imagine why.

Are magic mushrooms available in India? If yes, where? Do they give the same high as marijuana?

Magic mushrooms or Psilocybin mushrooms grow in Kodaikanal in the state of Tamil Nadu. For a more hippie place for a profound experience, go to Vattakanal which is a village few kms away from Kodaikanal. Otherwise known as "Little Israel", this place is packed with hippies all around the world for the same purpose. Ask any cab drivers for some shroom dealers and trip on quiet a large amount for the first time (2–3 dozens) preferably on an empty stomach.Personal tip: Mushrooms have the gift of changing your life for good. I will suggest you to take 2 dozens of shrooms in an empty stomach and sit in a dark room along with a 532 hz soothing 5–6 hours track rather than looking ‘’outward’’. Also, (and I cant emphasize this any further) make sure you are in a good state of mind in your life at that moment. You should have no prominent negative thoughts in your subconscious mind cause it may lead to a bad trip. However, there is nothing called a bad trip. It is eventually going to show you what you have to see. There is no scope of a permanent damage unless you cause physical harm to yourself or others. I wish you a good trip.

Why is Munnar also known as Mushroom Valley?

Munnar, the leading tourist destination in Kerala, is becoming increasingly popular for 'Magic Mushrooms,' an exotic alternative to psychedelic drugs. This little brown and white fungi is gaining popularity in the black market of drugs as it can be transported and sold without much risk. The mushroom, found in the hill ranges of Nilgiri and Munnar, is taken with honey. The effect of a single dose of eight to ten mushrooms lasts for eight to ten hours! The smaller ones are more effective than the big shrooms.it's suspected that the psychedelic mushrooms are available in plenty in the high range areas of Kerala. So the name shrooms valley is popular for Munnar.

Is it true that the consumption of "magic mushrooms" make you think in a more creative way?

Thanks for the A2A,In my opinion, psychedelics do indeed make you think in a more 'creative' way, assuming we agree on the meaning of 'creative'. In a normal, baseline state of consciousness, the mind works in a fixed linear fashion. Ideas and concepts enter the mind sequentially and are rationally and causally based. Your attention remains anchored, so to speak, in the present moment and the stimulus given by the external world or your own ACTIVE imagination (meaning you think of a concept and it takes form in your mind's eye). In a psychedelic state of mind, this linearity is broken by degrees (the stronger the dose, the stronger the dissociation and removal from linear thinking). The ideas and concepts entering the mind in this state are further detached from the present moment and external stimuli. The mental structure of the ego is broken down and replaced by an awareness that is much less filtered and biased. Novel thoughts and perspectives readily present themselves to the conscious mind and are not necessarily grounded in external reality at all.So, if by 'creative' we imply the simple creation of novel ideas... then yes, psychedelics definitely deliver. If, however, we take 'creative' to refer to the construction of complex pieces of artistic expression or engineering ingenuity, then the answer is a bit more nuanced. Although psychedelics do provide an interesting source of raw experiential novelty, the assimilation, integration and then expression of these experiences requires an anchored and intact ego to create. Where the credit for 'creativeness' lies is open for debate.

Antipsychotic medication and magic mushrooms??

I can not believe you didn't completely have a long-lasting extremely severe schizophrenic episode after taking them. You're lucky.
NO hallucinogen, that includes pot (yes, slightly hallucinogenic, because it alters perception and sense of reality[legalize!]), PCP, LSD, what ever.
If ya wanna do drugs, stick to anything that's not psychedelic. It could **** you up. And make sure to be careful with the addictive ones if you do them. Pharms are less addictive, and fun (from what I hear, I have had too many bad drug experiences), and less addictive than hard drugs as long as you don't take them daily, or regularly at all. Especially Opiates (Percusset, Vicodin, Oxycontin)... faster addiction potential than Benzos (Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, Valium) (though Benzos DO have worse withdrawals - Seem em both).
I would still get high if I could, but I can't cause my panic disorder. I'm in the same kind of boat as you. But I just don't feel like messing with pharms, as I need Benzos to control panic attacks, and need Adderall (Amphetamine - Stimulant - also risky for your situation) for school and depression.

Do some research^^, that's not just something I made up. And if you use pharms to get high - be responsible.
