Why are so many dumb people on here?
The most I see are black/white racists, political nut jobs, and these people who ask a question and completely ignore the correct answers and choose the answers they like.

A better question may be, Why do all my facebook friends appear so stupid? or Why are all my facebook friends so obvious?The answer to this, generally most facebook friends are probably new users to the internet and facebook itself. New users are exactly that, limited and new, they are finding the way of this new experience of expressing themselves.Writing about yourself or sensitive topics you think matter isnt easy, without coming off or appearing as self indulgent, virtue signalling, obvious and yes stupid.The thing is facebook is full of stereotypes and the obvious one is the new user, you can only get better at something by trying, so effectively you're experiencing people without the required skills and tools to appear as they may wish, educated, smart, insightful without appearing so obvious (dumb).Some of these users, may be surprised, The internet is a big place and there are other websites out there, where there posts about politics, relationship problems, divorce, opinion would be much better received and replied then their Facebook wall.eg, like guns? post at a gun forum. Divorce problems? post at a divorce community. Want political change? Join an activist community. etc etc,.Hope this helps, Thanks.
Why are people so stupid?
While I am not denying that stupidity exists, it is often also a label applied to things we are not intelligent enough to understand or see. Here are some stupid things:Wanting to go to the moon was stupid.Building a mobile music strategy around iTunes, knowing that it would only be successful if almost all record labels and publishers cooperated by allowing you to sell their music one track at a time was stupid.Using your credit card online was considered stupid and Amazon was predicted to fail because of consumer reluctance.Dropping out of Harvard was stupid for both Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. Heck, dropping out of school could almost be considered the definition of stupid.Funding and building a company to provide private, consumer focused rocketship company for space travel is stupid.My experience has taught me that many times when I see stupidity in the world, it is because I am myself too stupid to get it. I take to heart Apple's profound "Think Different" campaign because every single one of the people on those posters was stupid for embarking on the journey they did. Jim Henson touched millions with muppets, how stupid. Einstein worked in a patent office, but thought he understood space and time better than anyone else. Really? Steve Jobs was fired from Apple because he ran out of tricks and because his board thought he was filled with worthless new ideas. Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison because of racism and political oppression, got released and forgave those who trespassed against him; how stupid. It feels to me like that everyone who "thinks different" is perceived as stupid by others.Today I watched a clip of Malala Yousafzai on John Stewart's talk show and I was blown away by the stupidity of this little village girl. First she speaks out to local media against the Taliban- the same group that mounted an attack against the most powerful country on earth. They shoot her in the face, and instead of just going back to the way things are supposed to be, she calls out her enemies continually in front of the United Nations and on TV. I am humbled by her stupidity because it is illogical for little girls to fight against bearded hooligans with bombs.Think stupid, you will be in great company.

Pearl is retarded. Can't you tell by her spelling and answers. I feel sorry for her but she is really annoying. I wish she would find another hobby besides annoying the heck out of people on Yahoo Answers. The reason she was deleted is because she can't spell and gives almost the same answer all the time and YA got tired of her stupidity.
Why are dumb people gathered in social media sites but smarter people gathered in other sites such as Quora or TED?
Dear Doge, by now you would have realized that the premises to this question is inherently flawed.Yes, it is NOT the people themselves that are stupid, it is rather the QUALITY of the CONTENT on these websites that can be considered superficial, meaningless etc etc.BUT, believe it or not, there are also shitloads of idiots on Quora with lousy English and a terrible sense of logic asking redundant, ridiculous questions everyday. I have dealt with these people on Quora more times than I can count.But I think what you fail to notice, is that meaningful and thought-provoking debate IS NOT the PURPOSE of social media sites.You have to look at what exactly it is that such websites have to offer their users. Social networks such as Facebook and Twitter are meant primarily as platforms for the average Joe to share his life experiences with people within his social circles and update them regularly about what is happening in his/her life, whether be it in the form of a status update, or uploading photos into their online photo album.No one signs up on Facebook or Twitter to discuss the meaning of life, or to ask profound questions such as "Is there a God?", or "What are the main challenges facing democracy today?".The target audience is different.Quora is a QnA site meant for users to ask questions which they normally would not find the answers to if they had consulted an online search engine such as Google or Bing. If you notice, most questions on Quora are ones that require an answer in the form of a personal opinion, ones that seek personal experiences, or are questions which there are no simple answers to, and the person asking the question would actually benefit from the diversity of views provided by various users who all may have different takes on the same issue. Obviously, it takes individuals with a higher mental capacity to be able to adequately address profound questions such as "Is there a God?", or so these people use Quora as a platform for civilized, intelligent debate. Why do these porn sites always have these dumb pop ups and where do viruses come from?
For the same reason anyone does anything in life - to make money. The sites make money by hosting ads, the malware coders get money from extorting people or renting out botnet time. Yes, they're there on purpose (well, at least someone put them there on purpose. Legit sites don't host ads they know to be bad). Yes, people are jerks.
