Why Are Siamese So Smart

Is my fish smart? I have this Siamese Fighting Fish in an acquarium in the kitchen....?

All fish are fairly smart. Goldfish are actually smart for a fish and can do all sorts of tricks when trained.

They haven't done an IQ test per se, but have tested the memory span and trainability of certain fished. I know goldfish and the saltwater triggerfish are easily trained. Does that mean they are smarter than other fish? Well, then you start to get into opinion.

It can safely be said that your fish recognizes you and understands that when you go to a certain spot and come away with something in your hand that it is food time. They have proved that a fish can recognize a certain person. In one case it was shown that a goldfish even learned to recognize voices as he could tell when his owner that fed him entered the room even after the fish went blind and all the owner did was speak.

My groupers will get excited like that and "wag" their fins. They know fridge=food. If I walk by them enough without giving into the begging, the one grouper will snap at the surface and make a loud "pop" and splash to get my attention. If I sit down and ignore him, he will pop the water some more and pout in his cave.

Are siamese cats mean?

Siamese cats are not 'mean' exactly. They are very vocal and crave attention so make sure you are a patient person who absolutely LOVES their cat. What makes people say that siamese cats are mean is that they have been known to be bipolar or quickly change personality without warning. They have been known to viciously attack people without warning and that is what makes them so mean.

Good Luck with your cat. Patience is the key to siamese cat.

Is my cat part siamese?

Most first generation (one parent is siamese) kittens end up black or are black and white. The head shape can be slimmer, but not always. Check his coat, does it have an oily feel to it? Most of the time the guard hairs are thicker and slicker. I have a first generation 1/2 Siamese and he's extremely talkative and very intelligent. He's currently 21 years old. Partial Siamese inherit the long lives of the Siamese breed.

In the past I had a 1/4 Siamese, his grandmother was a full siamese, all the rest was mixed 'cat'. He was a gray tabby with the slim face and body, but he didn't talk much. He was also highly intelligent. Nothing about him said 'siamese' to anyone, but we know he had some in him. He lived to be 20 years old back when cats lived 12 to 15 years.

What is it like living with a Siamese cat?

I have a Siamese, Loki and a Siamese mix, Kira…When it is all dark and quiet in the house and everyone is fast asleep, Kira, the black one walks around the house in an astonishlingly human voice saying “heh whoa” “heh whoooaa” (hello)! They are everywhere you are! If you want a cat who is just going to lay in a corner these aren’t the ones lol. They have a certain little “swagger” to them. They are confident and they run the show. They are athletic and playful.Siamese are so loving and cuddly! They are silly and (did anyone mention vocal lol)... you will always understand exactly what your Siamese wants.. because if you don’t understand the first time they will tell you again until you do lol!But mostlyThey are in your face! and mine do not shy away from strangers, quite the opposite…Siamese are wonderful cats to live with as long as you are prepared for a cat who plays fetch, knows what it wants and is going to be the center of your universe (and anyone else’s who enters their world). They also do not do well being left alone for long periods of time as that is when they get themselves into trouble. Even people who dislike cats can’t help but to fall in love with our prince and princess. And of course they do well as a pair.. they keep each other company and wear each other out.

What are Siamese cats, or Siamese mixes, like as pets?

Siamese cats tend to be:Intelligent. They are arguably the smartest of all cat breeds. Too smart for their own good, actually. It isn’t unusual for a Siamese to figure out how to open the screen door, for example, or how to turn the faucet on so she can drink out of it.Curious. Curiosity and cats go together, but my Siamese have always been more curious than my other cats, probably because they are so intelligent. When we were having one of our bathrooms re-tiled, I told the tiler to be careful because I had cats who were good at getting into things. He breezily remarked that he was used to cats. “But these are Siamese cats,” I said, but he said he would be careful and that there would be no problem. Of course, Portia managed to get between the bathtub and the surrounding wall while he was not looking. It was hours later that we realized that she had managed to get herself tiled in.Devoted. Siamese are known for bonding very closely with their humans. If you want a soul mate cat, get a Siamese. But please do not get a Siamese cat unless you are determined to keep it for the rest of its life. If their humans abandon them they can become so depressed that they stop eating.Talkative. Or, as some would say, loud. A Siamese cat tends to have a large vocabulary, and that vocabulary does not necessarily include the word “meow.” Pandora has a special vocalization that means “Open my favorite window NOW.”Interactive and high-energy. Not only does a Siamese want to discuss everything with you, it demands your attention in other ways as well. They want to be around you all the time, they want to be on your lap, they want you to play with them. They are very active and demanding cats. If you want a sweet, calm little couch potato, get a Persian. And, last but by no means least, they are absolutely beautiful.(This is my Portia.)

Do Siamese cats walk on leads?

It's true for most but not all Siamese. But keep in mind - your Siamese is going to take you on a walk and not the other way around :) Just be sure to get a harness or a walking jacket, rather than a collar which is ever so easy for them to slip out of.

Do Siamese cats need a cat companion?

Siamese are very smart and energetic cats and therefore need a lot of mental and physical stimulation. They need toys and distractions, or they are good at getting into mischief. They are best as indoor-only cats, as they lack "common sense" in spite of being very intelligent. They are easy to train, and I highly recommend training them (see clickertraining.com), as it gives them an outlet for their energy, and it forms a closer bond between cat and person. Siamese are very vocal (both frequent and LOUD), and very demanding.

If you work all day and the cat will be left alone, I would suggest getting two cats, so they can keep each other entertained. Also, I strongly suggest reading as much as you can about the breed before you get a Siamese, especially if this is your first cat. I've had cats for almost 40 years, and I still wasn't prepared for living with a Siamese.

I was owned by the most amazing Siamese for eleven years. And I wouldn't have traded the experience for the world.

Are Siamese cats predisposed to be mean?

Quite the contrary.  From what I can tell, they are predisposed to be obnoxiously affectionate.  Siamese cats tend to bond very strongly to their humans.  Very often a Siamese will attach itself to one specific person.  My Portia has decided that I am her own personal primate, and she can get jealous if one of the other cats gets too much attention from me.  Pandora, our other Siamese, is extremely affectionate but loves my husband and me pretty much equally. That's Portia on the left, Pandora on the right.  From their expressions you would think they were plotting to take over the world.  They are, actually. Si and Am, the cats from Lady and the Tramp, have given a lot of people a very mistaken opinion of Siamese Cats.  Siamese tend to be very talkative, at least with their own humans. They need more interaction than most other cats, partly because they are very human-oriented and because they tend to be exceptionally intelligent. If a Siamese is going to be mean, it is likely that it will be towards another cat, not a human.  Siamese cats are more likely than other breeds to prefer being the only cat in the household.  (Not always, though:  My two get along very well, but Portia raised Pandora from a tiny kitten so they are used to having each other around.) They want their people to themselves.
