Why Are The Simpsons Still On Tv

Why has The Simpsons been on air for so long?

The Simpsons is the definition of a cash cow.The Simpsons are owned by 21st Century Fox, the current parent company of The Fox Broadcasting Company (FBC). The ratings are still strong and, as an owned show, 21st Century Fox makes all the money on syndication; foreign and domestic, local TV and through FX and FxX. The show licensing agreements for toys, games, action figures, theme parks, and food and beverage rival just about any other franchise (The Simpsons makes more money then Marvel's The Avengers licensing over the past decade). What could end the show? The sale of most of the 21st Century Fox assets (which excludes FBC) to either Disney or Comcast. If the 52 Billion deal with Disney (or the 60 billion deal with Comcast) is approved by regulators, FBC will no longer have the incentive to keep the show if ratings drop.

Why are The Simpsons still airing on Fox after 27 years?

Because it stopped being an animated sitcom about a family and became a sitcom about America. The cast of characters expanded to include the entire of Springfield which acts as a microcosm of wider America. Consequently the Simpson's has become a satire on America as a whole. Any issues, trends, popular culture or political argument that influences American life can be turned into a Simpson's plot. The family, and the town of Springfield have become tools for the writers to satirise any aspect of America they like. Modern life is progressing quickly enough that new plotlines are coming up all the time. The American elections, tech innovations, new popular culture trends etc, throw up new plotlines every year so the show can continue as long as the actors are willing to be paid millions ever year for a few weeks work.

How is the simpsons still running?

It’s still running for the same reason any series keeps running: enough people watch it to satisfy the sponsors and therefore the network. TV is an entertainment medium, but the bottom line for any show, however good or bad you may think it is, is the number of people who watch it. It’s very rare for a series to last without high viewership, and it’s also very unusual for a series with high viewership to be canceled. The people who run TV are doing it as a business. If the money paid by the sponsor makes a profit over the cost of the series, it’s a success. Enough people watch The Simpsons to make it profitable, so it continues. It’s as simple as that.

Is The Simpsons show ever going to stop being on TV?

I believe that the show, as it has existed since 1989, will eventually end due to the voice cast eventually retiring. Unlike many other animated series, “The Simpsons” has kept the same actors providing voices, retiring characters when their voice actors died like Phil Hartman and Marcia Wallace (Mrs. Krabappel). The big wild card is that the “Simpsons” franchise is being acquired by Disney, along with most of Fox’s assets. Will Disney choose to end the show only to reboot it years later with a new cast? One big thing that Disney is not buying is the Fox network, where the show has aired from the beginning. Perhaps Disney will keep the show in production but move it to their own network ABC or to a cable channel. As of December 2018, Fox has not ordered a 31st season of “The Simpsons” for the 2019–2020 television season. However, a “Treehouse of Horror” Halloween episode has unofficially been announced for the Fall of 2019

Why are they still making new episodes of The Simpsons?

I started watching The Simpsons when I was in college in 1989. I'm completely blown away they are still making new ones 26 years later. As far as watching new episodes it's painful to watch. They were so funny in the beginning. Just as classic tv as it gets. They have worn out every plot line and then worn out everyone after that. I'm amazed they still want to even attempt this anymore, but I guess if someone out there still laughs then it's worth it. I will add the one actor who played Troy McClure, and had multiple roles who was killed in real wife by his psycho wife had a huge impact to me losing such a funny character. The series would have been so much funnier if he was still with us.

The Simpsons (TV series): Why is Mayor Quimby still the Mayor of Springfield if he's so corrupt?

"He may be a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch"Who is going to replace Mayor Quimby? The nerds take over in They Saved Lisa's Brain [1] and it is a disaster. Meanwhile, Mayor Quimby may be dumb, selfish and a hypocrite - but his obvious failures are perhaps the least possible bad. History (in real life and in The Simpsons (TV series)) is full of charismatic, good-hearted people who cause much more harm than good once they are put into positions of power. To belabor the point even further, it is easy to say that Quimby's corruption is "obvious satire", but I think that misses the point of Quimby. Every one of us accepts that our government is largely corrupt on all levels - it is just not nice to talk about in polite company in the USA without eitherpassionately arguing to throw the current set of bums out orbeing excused of cynicism about human nature. However, there might be a middle ground where you 'settle' for an "acceptable level of corruption" - that's where Quimby lives. Why is Simpsons still on TV, when it clearly has seen its best times?

Because when media buyers want to buy advertising time on the show they still have to wait for a call-back.Quality estimations from fans wrt to long-running media franchises don’t carry nearly the weight fans think they do. If the audience thinks Episode 2, 197 “sucks,” and loudly says so on social media, the producers response will likely be, “Boy it sure seems like a lot of people watched that one, we must be doing something right,” and the actual writers/cast will simply say, “The next one will be better.”When advertisers decide the audience isn’t holding up, and start reducing their buys, then the suits get involved and changes are on the way.

What makes The Simpsons so popular?

Well, a cultish fanbase for one thing. Fans which actually come back and back again for the show despite it loosing much of its inspiration over the later years. Also, the show's ability to reflect and comment on the changing culture and featuring parodies of various trends, movies, tv shows and stars. Some of the strengths of the show from its earlier seasons (good storytelling, credible characterization, wildly inspired jokes, terrific running gags, colorful characters) have become scarce since around season 10, about 15 years ago. But the engine is still going strong and peaked again with The Simpsons Movie (2007 movie), which was surprisingly successful at rejuvenating some of the show's appeal.
