Why Bangladesh Play Test Cricket

Why does the Bangladesh cricket team play fewer matches than most other top-ranked teams?

As others have said on here, it is alas mostly down to money. Though Bangladesh are improving as a team in all formats, they’re not regarded as a strong box office draw for either the TV broadcasters or at the ground by other national boards. It’s why the Aussies canned a series against them earlier this year - test matches aren’t cheap to stage, so many boards are reluctant to schedule the “lesser” sides if they know they might not make revenue from the TV rights and at the gate (and even if they do, such tours tend only to be short - one or two tests and three ODIs). It’s a bit of a vicious circle - you can’t improve without playing the top teams, but because you’re still lowly ranked, they won’t host you or tour your country very often (hence you can’t get the requisite experience to improve….)

Who are the Bangladeshi Hindu cricketers who played for Bangladesh Cricket team ?

Thanks for the A2A. Here's a list:Bikash Ranjan Das (Medium Fast Bowler)Hannan Sarkar ( Opening Batsman)Alok Kapali (All rounder)Taposh Baishya (Medium fast bowler)Soumya Sarkar (Top order batsman and medium pacer)Shuvagoto Hom Chowdhry (Middle order batsman and occasional spin bowler)Dhiman Ghosh (Wicket keeper batsman)Liton Kumar Das (Wicket Keeper Batsman)Subashis Roy (Right Arm Fast Medium bowler)These are the ones who played ODIs or Tests. Among them, Alok Kapali was probably the biggest star. He was a regular member of the team for the larger part of the last decade, and he even has a hat-trick in test cricket. Repeated failures with the bat and high levels of inconsistency has thrown him out of international cricket in 2011, but he is still a formidable name in the domestic leagues. He was one of the top performers of the recently concluded BPL season 2.Tapash was the new ball bowler for Bangladesh one day squad for quite some time but he never managed to reach his full potential.Hannan Sarkar played some good innings against Australia, but that was the most he could do. Known for terrible footwork, he was soon replaced with other, better opening partners for Tamim.Among the newer players, Soumya and Liton have established themselves as the “next big thing” after veterans like Mushfiq, Mahmudullah, Tamim and Shaqib retires.Liton is a dashing wicketkeeper batsman who secured place in all three formats of the game. He is a useful player for the team as he can play in opening, number 3 and number 6/7 position with ease, and he is also one of the top wicketkeepers of the country. He is often picked to relieve Mushfiq from keeping duties.Soumya Sarker is a very talented and promising star, but he suffers from inconsistency. On his day, he can thwart any bowling opposition, but those days are still quite rare to come by.Subhasis Roy came in to the test XI with a lot of promise, and was chosen for a few games before getting dropped again. He just needs more opportunities.Shuvagoto Hom got a number of opportunities, but is yet to prove his worth.Updated as of 27th December, 2018.

Why does Bangladesh play test cricket?

They play test cricket for the same reason that the other test playing nations play test cricket. They were given test status by the ICC. Not every test playing nation is a strong team. However, Bangladesh is still better than Zimbabwe, which also has test status. ICC is looking into the test status of these teams and also at providing test status to other teams like Ireland who don't currently have that status.

Why bangladesh still so weak in cricket even after playing for long time?

In my view the reasons of our poor performance in almost all the games, and cricket in particular, is as follows:

1. The people of Bangladesh are a bit shorter and weaker built than the Indians and Pakistanis. Sri Lankan are exception since there population is much lesser thereby getting more per capita food for taking proper care of their nourishment and stamina.

2. Higher proportion of educated population in neighboring countries are producing better base-materials for rigorous training in any field where intelligence needed to groom better players.

3. Lack of proper theoretical classes as well as practical training and proper gears with fields for the players in one part and also lack of interest to abide by the disciplines, rules and regulations during training on the other part makes it difficult to get quality players in Bangladesh.

4. The ego plays heavily in our player's mind who try to emulate personal traits of their counterparts in neighboring countries, but not the techniques and other positive attributes those champion-materials possess.

5. Lastly, the mother nature also makes life difficult for our players to come out and play when there are rains in more than 4 months those gets our fields more soggy due to the alluvial soil (fine fertile soil left behind by a flood, esp. in a river valley) makes the playing ground unsuitable for practicing.

I had been to Karachi, Pakistan for fairly long time till 1973 and saw the school children playing cricket on routine basis during weekly holidays in plenty of fields available to them throughout the years as the weather in Pakistan are much dryer than what we have here in Bangladesh.

So, unless we can pool talents from School level age through routinely held competition and taking them to special schools like we have one in Kaliakoir, Savar, Dhaka, we can not hope to have consistently good performing cricketers, for that matter any other kind of players coming out from Bangladesh.

PS. Someone commented that we do not have the passion or frenzy in our public for cricket, which is not true. If you were here when Bangladesh first beat Pakistan in world-cup preliminaries in UK and then beating India in similar fashion in last ICC WC 2007 and then the South Africa, you would have seen the zest in our people for the cricket. Football has now taken backbench in terms of arousing enthusiasm among the general populace here.

Is Bangladesh weakest among test cricket playing teams? Why do Bangladeshi fans still try to troll other Asian giants even though their team still not achieved anything in cricket even after playing almost 3 decades?

There are 12 test cricket playing nations as of now. Ireland and Afghanistan haven’t played yet but will play in May-June. That left us with 10 teams. Out of them, Bangladesh has least win percentage ( 9.62%) after Zimbabwe ( 10.57% ). Also, it lost most number of matches comparatively. In their 18 years of test cricket, Bangladesh has won only 3 test series, two at home ( vs Zim) and one away ( vs WI).They won ten test matches and most of them are against Zimbabwe and West Indies. Their biggest victory came last year versus England and they managed to win against Australia. We can say they are the weakest test cricket team.Answering your second part of question, we cannot say that all their fans and only their fans troll other nations. Indians, Sri Lankans, Pakistanis , Australians too troll other nations. After their victories against India and South Africa in 2007 World Cup, Bangladesh fans took the game very seriously. The government of Bangladesh was also very supportive. They respected their players like gods and even very vocal when the team lost matches. They attacked team buses few times. This behavior generally made them look like arrogant and immature. They couldn’t easily digest the trolls from other countries. There are also feeling very frustrated due to continuous failures of their team and they reply with trolls and Photoshop edits. The trolls and cyber abuses are only by few section of fans basically called as Keyboard-warriors. There are many others who enjoy the GAME and respect other nations.

Why has Bangladesh cricket team toured India just once in 18+ years since they started playing test cricket?

Bangladesh teams are very low in BCCI’s list of preferred teams. The Indian team has a very busy playing schedule and cannot accommodate the Bangladeshis.

Who was the first Bangladeshi cricketer score double century in test cricket?

Mushfiqur Rahim against Srilanka 2013

Should all test playing nation boycott touring Bangladesh?

Short answer - Not at all. Why?a) Problem 1 -- Mushfiqur. Got too excited. Made some random tweets. Solution : This is not even a legal issue. Something which happened in the heat of the moment. If Mushfiqur is indeed found guilty of misbehaviour, BCB or ICC will reprimand him. b) Problem 2-  Fans. Immature head cutting photoshop experts.Solution: None. Why? Unfortunately immature fans are not just in Bangladesh. They are everywhere. You will find at least 15-20% keyboard warriors in every country. (Keyboard warriors are - people who just love the internet, love the anonymity and use it to troll others consistently at a personal level with immature content and have the mental age of a teenager yet to hit puberty) . Again, why they do it is beyond comprehension. The most probable reason is that they fail to understand how the society works and more importantly fail to understand cricket. That said, I feel Bangladesh fans are unbelievably supportive of their team. Its amazing how much they love their team. These small incidents can't tarnish the awesomeness of the other 80% fans. So, the big question, how do we deal with such incidents in the future?Just say," meh. :/"
