Now, this olfactory system is closely related to the limbic system, a part of the brain, which also happens to be the seat of emotions & behavior. So when you think of a person you really like, your olfactory receptors are tricked into thinking that s/he is somewhere near you, because of your strong emotional attachment to that person.So next time something like this happens, just blame your limbic system as the culprit!!!

There are a number of us super smellers. I have a keen olfactory. I respond strongly to aromas and foods. I can smell things people don't smell on their own, and sometimes not even when I ask them to take a sniff.I consider it a blessing. Anything to do with the senses fascinates me. A few years ago, I came home and immediately suspected someone had been there. I had a small dog I would often pick up or get on the ground to pet and play with it. I felt she smelled differently. There was no evidence of an intrusion or theft. But, trusting my gut, I decided to put a new lock on the door; one that was not detectable from the outside. A couple of days later, the owner of the house asked why I had put a lock on the door. I simply asked her how she knew I had. She admitted coming into my house to play with the dog and look at my artwork! Wtf!Not sure if the average person would have detected the smell of another human on their pet. Enjoy your nose. Listen to the smells. I also have bionic ears. I wonder if you do too. That one is a bit more on the cursed side.It could be that people are too busy to notice such things or just have a weaker level of awareness in general. That's why we have that expression Stop, and smell the roses. I cannot decide if people like us have a neurological disorder or a superior internal wiring. I savour every event that reaches my nose. The strongest response I have ever had to an aroma was to HONEYSUCKLE. It transports me to another world.

I don’t think you should, in general. What are you gonna say “go away, you have BO?” “Your breath stinks?” “You smell like dirty ass?” No you can’t do that. In most cases it isn’t appropriate to say anything. If it’s your child, or your partner, or your best friend, then maybe you should speak up. For a kid, just tell them to go wash. I used to tell my son “we’re going out for dinner. Go wash your armpits, put on deodorant and a clean shirt.” He was pretty stinky as a preteen. By his teens he was showering daily and had apparently figured out how to work the soap, so he didn’t smell anymore.If it’s a partner and you don’t want to get intimate because they reek, take a shower with them, wash them well in the areas that need it, then get sexy with them once they’re clean, and tell them how much you’re enjoying it. If they don’t get the hint, every time they want to fool around, take them in the shower first.For your best friend, mostly you can just ignore it. If they really smell and you don’t want them to be embarrassed, maybe offer some help. Like “here, have some gum.” Or buy them the kind of deodorant you use. They might be insulted, it’s true, but I think it’s better to fix the problem.

Someone said that they can smell a girls period even if they're fully clothed. This makes me paranoid cuz I can smell my own period sometimes if I wear a pad but usually I wear a tampon. Can you tell a if a girl is on her period just by smelling the air around her?
