Why Did My Credit Card Charge More

Why was my credit card charged $1 from Yahoo, when I opened aYahoo account for my son?

I opened the email address for him, and it needed "age proof" from me, and required my credit card info to do that..It stated that my credit card would NOT be charged. Tonight my husband called to ask me what the $1 charge from Yahoo was for. I am now on here to ask if this has happened to anyone else and why it did happen.

Gas station charged me extra on my credit card?

First thing you need to do is find out if you were actually charged $75 each time, or was it an authorization (or hold) for $75.

When you swipe your card at the gas pump, the station has no way of knowing how much gas you're going to put in your car. So, they will get an authorization for a specific amount (sometimes it's $25, sometimes $50, I've seen it as high as $100). When you finish pumping your gas, the station will submit the transaction for the actual amount you purchased. Unfortunately, it may take two or three days for your account to show the actual amount purchased.

Call your credit card company, and ask them if you were actually charged the $75, or if it's a pre-authorization for $75. Or, just wait a week, and see if it changes to the correct amount.

Why do vendors charge extra 2% when we pay by a debit/credit card?

When you swipe your debit/credit card for purchasing some item, the merchant has to pay some fees (1%-2%) to the Bank or the rental fees for the swipe machine. The charges go out of their own pocket, as the cost of running the business and convenience of taking the payments (more customers will come if card payment is there). If it's a small payment like Rs 500 or Rs 1000, then its a charge of Rs 10 or Rs 20, which is fine. But when it becomes a payment of let's say Rs 30,000 (imagine buying laptop or iPad), then it's around Rs 300-600 and to save that big charges, they discourage debit/credit card payment. This Happened to me long Ago In SupermarketCashier:“Sir How are you making payment? ATM Card or Cash ?”Me:“Card”Cashier:“Sir, There will be 2% extra charges if you pay by ATM Card? ”Me:“Why extra charges? I use it at every place and no one charges any thing extra? ”Cashier:“Sorry Sir, this is our Policy. You can take out the CASH from the nearby ATM if you want to save that extra charges”But The Policy is Changed:You Can Report To RBI by Their Website:Reserve Bank of Indiaor Calling RBI Helpline Number:+91-8691960000ThankYou:))

Why is Paytm charging 2% on credit card for loading money to Paytm wallet?

To avoid people using credit cards to get free credit by transferring the amount into their bank accounts. I could tell more about what it was and how it didn’t matter much as the issued Gift Card(GC) would give the same cashback which theoretically, the amount should be available for transfer to account (Hence you had to buy something, and I believe this GC was usable in recharges too, can’t verify it as they’ve dropped the charges and removed those statements now)Update: Announcing few changes in Paytm WalletPaytm suspends 2% fee on recharge via credit cards for customers convenienceGo through these announcements again, they’ve dropped the charges. They had given a good reason on why they did it, and so after all this they will expect the customer to understand that they are on loss due to this and stop transferring money from credit card to their accounts and use any loaded amount in Paytm wallet itself!

Credit-cards: why are cash-advance charges and interest so high?

It’s logical for cash advance rates to be higher than purchase rates. People who desperately need cash are potentially bigger credit risks — especially those in that position repeatedly. A higher Cash advance rate can serve as a deterrent to encourage consumers to exhaust all other options first when they need money quickly. Also, the higher rates can stop some individuals from withdrawing cash for things a credit card isn’t meant to cover — such as shuffling money around to pay for other debts. And the main reason that banks charge high fees and immediately start charging (high) interest rates on cash advances is because these types of transactions represent an increase in risk profile of the borrower.Banks charge for credit card use in a manner that is meant to be indicative of the credit risk they assume. There are few use cases for cash advances that don't indicate a struggling consumer, or a cardholder who is more likey to default. Otherwise they would just use a debit card at an ATM. So the bank takes advantage of this situation by charging more.

If Amazon knows who stole my credit card number. Can they charge the person with theft?

you need to tell amazon to give the info to law enforcement and hope the law does something

Do you charge groceries and gasoline on your Credit Card?

I always use my debit card for everything. I don't have a credit card though because they are horrible. Spending money that you don't have just doesn't make sense to me. I believe in saving money. But yeah, I have made $1 purchases before with my debit card. It's no big deal. I mean if you carry around cash all the time and you loose your wallet - then you will get robbed. This actually happened to one of my friends. He lost $200 because he was just carrying it around. On the other hand, if someone steals your debit/credit card - your bank will reimburse you for all of the stolen charges. No big deal. I prefer debit cards vs. cash, except when I need to do laundry - coin op. :D
