Why Do 10 Corporations Control Most Of The Common Products That We Buy

Do big corporations control the US federal government?

It seems like the biggest corporations and banks can take huge risks and profit regardless of the negative outcomes of their bad choices. It seems like corporations control much of the information we see reported through mass media.

Ralph Nader recently sent email containing the following text:

"Entrepreneur, lawyer, shareholder advocate, and author, Robert A. Monks wrote recently that “American corporations today enjoy an absolute reign. They and they alone have the power to control the rules under which they function. Corporations, and the most powerful CEOs acting through them, have effectively seized authority over the United States without assuming any of the responsibilities of dominion.”

Nader also refers to television as "weapons of mass distraction."

Do you agree with Mr. Ralph Nader's description, or do you think the US is a functioning democracy?

Why are corporations the dominant form of business in the United States?

As an owner of a corporation he/she is not personally responsible for any financial liabilities of the corporation. They can seize all of the assets in a meltdown of the business and the owner will still retain his/her personal property. Also for the tax breaks that are available when incorporated in certain states. Delaware is popular with insurance corporations.

Are there any Indian companies or products in Pakistan?

There were many requests from Pakistan to make Factories in Pakistan. There are many advantages for Indian companies in doing that, but Indian companies always stayed away from Pakistan and their corporate requests.Pakistan once had requested TATA motors to make a supply of 10,000 Tata Sumo Cars to Pakistan. In a single order, Pakistan has produced a requirement to Mr. Ratan Tata. They even had some more orders to be fulfilled in future also. They had demands of Military vehicles from Tata Motors.Ratan Tata had rejected the order from Pakistan. He was seeing massive losses in the Car wing of Tata motors, which was hit by the Indica car model’s poor performance. If he had agreed to take up that order, he would have made some loses covered up. But it was a small chunk of Tata motors. He flatly replied, that Tata motors will not make cars for Pakistan ever. This is a small example of Pakistan’s stature in Indian Corporate world. Even if Pakistan pays more money, Indians will not involve doing business with Pakistan. The reason for this is, there is no trust in Pakistan’s Government or its unstable political history. The investments in Pakistan for Indian companies would make more worse bi lateral stands. The Pakistani law is also not trust-able enough. As if there is no other country for Indian Companies to invest in Pakistan, there is no chance of doing that. It is always been a rogue nation and it will be like that unfortunately. There is always scope for Indian Products in Pakistan, but unfortunately the games played by Pakistan’s power groups( Government, Military and Terrorist communities), it is always a hot soup to swallow to do Business in Pakistan. For example, Indian films make most of the profits in their Film industry. Producers of Pakistan films are protesting against Indian Film release in Pakistan, but citizens of Pakistan love Indian films.

How come when I buy protein powder its half full?

Well, its a powder. When it comes from the factory it is blown into the containers via a huge tube - as such it is super fluffy. The folks that manufacture flour actually have the ability to shake it down and compact it but most other companies can't. Even stuff like Bisquick or Instant Breakfast is that way. All powders will end up settling as they rumble around on trucks to be delivered.

You are buying the powder by weight - that's why you should always check the price per ounce. That way you get the cheapest and the packaging shouldn't matter. In fact I often have to repack my powders to make more room in the cupboard, but those big containers are good for collecting pennies =)

How do holding companies make money?

as you may have heard, very few US corporations pay any income taxes. ever wonder why? it's because a great deal of corporate finance has to do with making sure there are no taxable profits. that's part of what holding companies are for.

your question seems naive because it assumes that the point of a corporation is to make money. businesses make money, and that money gets paid out, under our system, mostly in the form of large executive salaries. the point of the corporation is to avoid two things, in the process of doling out millions to the principals (who DO pay income taxes, though often not much as a percentage of their income): one is liability, and the other is taxes.
