Why Do Auto Insurance Companies Ask For Annual Mileage When They Base Your Insurance Rate Off Of

Does the insurance company have to repair my car?

I parked my classic car, a restored 57 Chevrolet Nomad in a mall parking lot. A driver was going the wrong way getting out of the parking lot and a Fedex truck was going the correct way out of the lot. The Fedex truck served to avoid the wrong way driver and hit my car. It was extensively damaged. There were plenty of people that saw the crash and the police were called and I filled out a police report and the Fedex driver did the same thing.

My car will be VERY expensive to repair as parts to repair a car this old are very hard to find and when found are extremely costly. Fedex insurance wants to claim the cost to repair it are more than the car is worth and just pay me what an average 1957 Chevrolet would cost to buy.

I know my car is not the average 1957 Chevrolet. It is a very rare model. It is restored to better than new condition. A few years ago the model of my car “Nomad” in good condition was selling for over $80,000. That is way more that Fedex insurance wants to pay me for the car.

Do I have the right to demand they restore my car to the condition it was before their truck damaged it no matter what it cost. Thanks for your advice

Do insurance companies charge more for cars than they do trucks?

It is just not that simple. Insurers charge based on their claims experience for the vehicle whether or not it is a struck, SUV, sedan, or Coupe. If the truck is used in a commercial enterprise that could affect the rates. Besides claim experience of the vehicle, they also look at your driving record and match those two together. All vehicles fit into a classification code which is used to determine the rate you will pay for that vehicle.

What happens if I go over my declared annual mileage for car insurace?

**UK response - unsure if same applies in USA

If your premium has been based on 6000 miles a year, you will find that every insurer treats it differently if you go over 6000 without declaring it first. For example, some Insurers will still pay your claim but deduct a higher excess, some decline the claim altogether due to non disclosure, and some will pay it once you have paid them the additional premium it would have cost to up the mileage when you realised you needed a higher limit. Check your policy booklet to see if there are any clauses regarding this. In any case, you need to declare the higher mileage so best do it now.

The extra premium charged can be anything from just the Insurer's administration fee to a larger amount dependent on the type of policy you took and the amount of extra mileage you need.

Why did my car insurance premium increase?

Ginger,

Aren't "claim free discounts" just a gimmick? I ask because my father was with Allstate for 20 years, no claims. He sought quotes and went with Hartford last year after they cut his annual premiums 50% for the same coverage. He then transferred his Allstate house insurance to Hartford for a 33% discount. He had never received a discount throughout his entire duration with Allstate. Allstate also wouldn't match Hartford's quote.

I understand the whole "paying for quality" thing, but paying double is ridiculous.

Auto Insurance & Road Service Question?

you are paying 1400 a YEAR !!!!!!! . That is crazy. forget about the offers you receive. Just go online and fill out quote requests from as many companies as you wish. it is all automated . so you can change values as to deductibles , etc and get instant quotes. no humans involved. You can prob cut that 1400 to 700 very easily. , now go online and do it. do 5 diff companies and see what you get. the reason they keep slowly raising your rate is because of people like your dad that will just keep paying it. so they automatically keep creeping the rate up and up.

It looks like you ha $100 deductible , that is way tooooooo low and increase you rate. go 500 or 1000 dollar deductible.
