Why Do Conservatives Support Capital Punishment

Am I still a conservative if I oppose capital punishment?

“Am I still a conservative if I oppose capital punishment?”A2A:What’s your real concern with this?If you’re trying to decide which current “political camp” you belong in, that’s one thing; if you are trying to identify what modern conservatism itself really is or isn’t, that’s a completely different thing. The fact that you use the words “A conservative,” rather than asking if you are “conservative” or not, suggests that you are asking about your “club membership” as a Conservative. If that’s what you really want to know, you’ll need to take a poll of whoever you think represent your local Conservatives, and they’ll let you know.In general, for a long time now, U.S. Conservatives have tended to support the death penalty, while Liberals have tended to oppose it.But plenty of conservative people, that is, people who have a conservative approach to life (see the dictionary definition of the word “conservative”) have entirely different viewpoints about it.Overall, to my thinking, you need to inspect carefully WHY you are opposed to the death penalty, in order to answer your concern with this. What I have seen defines real Conservatives and Liberals in the US, isn’t so much WHAT they favor or oppose, as WHY they favor or oppose the thing. For example, I personally oppose the death penalty, entirely for practical reasons, of overall cost, and because it interferes with the administration of the justice system overall. This fits with my being conservative. If I opposed it because it “upsets” people, or because I thought of it as “immoral,” that would tend to suggest I was more “liberal.”

Why do Republicans support capital punishment, but not abortion?

I think the proper question should be, "Why would a person who opposes abortion, favor capital punishment?"The answer is simple. Capital punishment is reserved for those who have committed crimes categorized as capital - in the past, that included rape, kidnapping and murder. Now, capital punishment is limted to certain types of murder. Generally speaking, a trial to determine guilt is required, and a trial to determine if a death sentence is warranted is also required. The average time it takes from sentencing to execution, because of appeals is more than a DECADE! Now, let us look at abortion: A woman becomes pregnant. She knows that in less than nine months, barring any unforeseen circumstances, she will give birth to a child, a human being. It will not be an Oreo cookie, or a ping pong paddle, or a locomotive; it will be a child. Yet, if she chooses not to be pregnant - (NOTE: she does not have to choose not to give birth, or choose not to raise a child; she only has to choose not to be pregnant) - she can terminate the pregnancy. At that point, whatever is going on in her womb - gamete, zygote, fetus, embryo, call it what you will - ceases to exist, and NO CHILD WILL BE BORN. IT HAS BEEN DEPRIVED OF THE RIGHT TO LIFE. There has been no Court proceeding. If the pregnant woman is a minor, there need be no discussion with her parents. There need be no discussion with the co-creator - the Dad. The woman can unilaterally, with no explanation, no due process, no compensation, no grievance, take away that child's right to life, and as of today, no power in the United States can stop her. This is called a "woman's choice" and "reproductive rights".

Do you support capital punishment?give reasons to your answere?

I support it. Here's why:

-it serves due justice (the punishment fits the crime), and serving due justice is the NO.1 job of a court of law
-it shows that we are tough on crime
-it gets bang for the taxpayers buck
-criminals given the DP have a 0% recidivism rate
-It holds people responcible for the horrible content of their character. This fulfills what MLKJ always wanted: judge not by the color of your skin, but by the content of your character. The characterof these criminals warrants death
-It holds the criminal responcible for his actions
-appeals and **** aside, it's cheaper then prison
-it decreases the prison population, which saves even more taxpayers money
-Because the death penalty is the punishment given by a neutrel judge, there is no vengance in it. Therefore, there is no moral objection to be had with the death penalty.
-The death penalty defends human rights by establishing a mentality that "we will not tolerate any violation of any innocent person's human right's

What do Liberals support and what do Conservatives support?

Lets answer your question this way. Liberals do not support the following:

1. Lower taxes for the wealthy will create jobs and fix the economy. LOL

2. Right to Life prevents killing somebody. Liberals do not support Capital Punishment because a human being that could be reconciled is being put to death. DNA shows 30% are innocent. We do not support Capital Punishment because it puts to death a thinking, talking, walking, opinionated human being. Right to Life does not.

3. If you support Right to Life then you must also support Obamacare so these additional welfare babies you want can at least get health care. But you do not support Obamacare so your argument is very shallow.

4. Machine guns for everybody will not reduce the crime rate.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses against capital punishment?

As an ex-JW (20+ years), I believe that, as an organization, the Watchtower Society (the legal entity representing the Jehovah's Witnesses) does NOT have a problem with capital punishment, for the following reasons:

1. The Old Testament (or Mosaic Law) under ancient Israel made allowance for capital punishment for a number of offenses, including murder, usually applied by stoning, as directed by their judicial systems (judges or older men)

2. Jehovah God himself is 'executioner" of judgment and vengeance upon violators of his Laws(Exodus 12:12; Deut 10:17,18; Ezekiel 25:11-17)

3. According to JW belief, Jehovah the Executioner is due (very soon, according to their literature) to execute deadly judgment on all those living today who reject the message of His Witnesses (JW's) going door-to-door, those who reject their theology, meaning that billions of people alive today, including children, will be executed as a result of the fury of Armageddon.

4. Superior authorities- JW's believe that the earthly governments, as the "superior authorities" (Romans 13:1) have been allowed by God to exist and to administer justice, dealing with those who have disregarded human life and other heinous crimes, including by execution.

So, in view of this historical background, it is clear that JW's and their leadership (Governing Body) do not oppose capital punishment. There was enough blood shed by the armies of Israel, as recorded in the Old Testament (Hebew Scriptures), as to create seas....
