Why Do I Have Rib Ache

Why do my ribs hurt after I threw up?

The last couple of times when you were likely dry heaving were the painful ones. You throw-up when you are sick or ingest too much of a toxin. This is a defense mechanism that you can't control. It saves you from having the poisons in your digestive tract too long. That keeps it from getting in the blood. Anyway the actions that happen is your stomach muscles contract with your intercostal muscles, and your diaphragm in one good puke. If it wasn't so violent then all the puke may not clear the airway on the way out, and the next breath would bring it into the lungs, that would be like drowning in acid, not good. The fact that you have this pain is to save you from drowning in you own vomit. hope that helps

Why do my ribs hurt after i had sex?

might it have anything to do with the position at all? Like was he putting a lot of weight on top of you, or were you leaning over on something?

Also, sometimes when people try to stay in one position for a while, especially if it's an awkward position, their muscles tense up and might be sore later. This goes with anything not just sex - think about getting a pushup position and holding yourself there for a while, eventually all of your body can feel it, you know? But then later maybe only your leg muscles or only your ab muscles can feel it because you haven't used them as much so they're more susceptible to fatigue. This is probably the case since the muscles under the ribs aren't usually exercised often.

However, I have to say that if you think a rib might be fractured (which I doubt) or have trouble breathing or last more than a few days, then you should go to a hospital because it might be something else. But I think you're fine and it'll probably go away within a few days.

Why do my ribs hurt after running?

I run track and have practice and meets 6 days a week. I also have soccer practice 2 days a week. The other day I had track after school from 2:30 to 4. Then I had striker training from 6 to 7:30 and then I had regular soccer practice from 7:30 to 9. My muscles were killing me by the time my practice started and I could barely feel my legs. I also have exercise induced asthma so at some points it was hard for me to breathe. Can all the running have made my ribs sore since I usually at most only do track and soccer practice. I have sore muscles still but that usually happens after hard workouts. Why would my ribs be sore though?

Why do people get cramps in their ribs after eating?

When you eat a big meal, the blood vessels that feed the digestive tract open up to increase blood flow to digestive organs. You need this to properly digest food. However, your body has a finite amount of blood. So, blood flow to other areas is diminished to maintain adequate blood pressure. If you do a physical activity after eating, the body has to open up blood flow to vessels in the musculature at the same time its trying to divert blood flow to digestive organs. The result is that there is not enough blood flow to go around, and some areas suffer from lack of perfusion. This is ischemia and it leads to cramps and pain.In human anatomy, intercostal muscles (the muscles found in between your ribs) are particularly susceptible to hypoperfusion. As a result, cramping and sharp pain may result if you are active too quickly following a large meal. This is the reason why you should wait a bit after a large meal prior to swimming. Bad cramps can lead to drowning.

Why do my rib cages hurt in the morning?

Rib pain upon awakening can be traced to sleeping position, patient physical condition, medical history, medications taken, and bed surface conditions. Since you do not give any details, and whether the pain subsides during the day, my answer will cover some possible causes.Obesity and anorexia both figure here. Excessive weight or lack of muscle mass can produce discomfort when the body has either too much force against the sleeping surface or insufficient musculature and flesh to cushion the ribs.Sleeping prone or on ones side puts uneven or excessive pressure on the frontal or lateral rib cage. Sleeping supine distributes weight more evenly and is less likely to cause problems.Hard, unyielding mattresses can result in compression of skeletal projections and ischemia of the overlying tissues.Age of the patient, history of traumatic injuries, surgeries, and medications used are significant factors. Arthritic symptoms are aggravated by all of the above. Some prescription drugs especially cholesterol reducers have joint and bone pain side effects.Good physical conditioning and a proper, comfortable mattress would be a starting place for a healthy night’s sleep.Consult your physician if this pain persists or is depriving you of sufficient sleep.
