Why Do I Have To Wait To Give My Dog More Drops And Advantage Or Fl

Should I give my 9-lb cat Advantage II flea treatment made for cats over 9 pounds or under 9 pounds?

‘Under’ would probably be safer. Advantage is a company, and they would want to satisfy their customers, so they make their flea poison strong. By setting a limit at 9 pounds, they’re hoping to limit the amount of poison they have to put in. It’s still the same poison. Cats can tolerate it very well, but small cats wouldn’t be able to tolerate the amount of poison they use for a 15 lb. cat as well.

Help!! Does Advantage for cats really work to kill fleas?

yes, it works.. (or at least it's the best that we have available.. fleas are getting resistant to most things)...

BUT... you have to back up the Advantage with a complete system in your house!

Typically, fleas do not live on the animal... yes, i know that's where you can usually see the fleas, but for every flea that is on your pet, there are at least 50 in the house!!!...

Think of your pet as a walking McDonalds... the flea only hops on when it wants something to eat.. The rest of the time, the fleas are living and breeding deep in your carpet and soft furnishings...

Your best bet, is to back up your Advantage with a breed cycle inhibitor, [your vet will be able to help you on this one, and probably sell you a very expensive one] or get (if you want to do it cheaply) a generic household flea spray, and treat the areas in the house that your pet has access to...

This means "thinking like a flea" they do not like to live in the bright light, in the center of the room, but will be hiding in the dark corners of the room, under furniture, and enjoying the warmth and hospitality of your home... (eeeek!!)... Your task is now to hunt them down where they hide, and treat them with the contempt they deserve!!

One BIG (and I want to say Advantage, but it's corny) asset that you have, is your vacuum cleaner!!.. use it TWICE a day, and cover ALL of the carpet space in the house... Fleas cannot defend against the vacuum, but fire a very short shot of flea killer into the vacuum hose before you turn the machine off (or empty the bag outside) otherwise the fleas will march back out of the cleaner during the night!!

so.. vacuum, vacuum, vacuum!!

And also treat the house chemically...

Additionally, if you live in a fairly warm area (guess that means all of us due to this global warming) you'll find that the fleas are EVERYWHERE in the sand outside... you may look into some kind of yard insect treatment to keep them at bay outside, and show the nasty critters that you mean business!!

I wish you (and also your cats) luck with this problem, and hope you find some way to win this battle!!!

Why does my older greyhound always smell bad, despite all degrees of bathing?

Hi,

I agree with Lacey that this could be something internal that needs to be addressed by the vet. I think the skin, hot spots and chewing issues are just symptomatic. Kidney or liver disease both secrete toxins through the skin pores which does cause strong odors and intense skin irritation for the dog. She may have impacted and/or infected anal glands that need to be expressed and treated which smells just ghastly. Teeth and ear problems can also cause offending odors.

At her age, I really think you need to get her checked out to be sure the root cause is being addressed since nothing else seems to be helping (bathing, etc.). If she has been fine for years and kept the same eating habits and food, then I wouldn't think food allergies or changing her food right now would really be of any help.

You didn't tell us if she has always been this way or if this has just started recently. Before your vet visit, take some time to write down symptoms and events, a time-line of treatments, what has worked, what hasn't, list of questions, etc. Take her in 'smelling' too as the vet's nose may recognize the problem right away. Anyhow, be prepared up-front so you will get the best use of the vets time, knowledge and skills. Your office visit will be about 15-20 minutes long and with exams, questions, treatments, etc. the time just flies and you may forget something that may be key to an accurate diagnosis. I really do think you need to take her in quickly..

Hopefully you can find a vet who will accept payments or Care-Credit. Good Luck!

Why do you have to change a car's alternator when changing the battery?

Well, three possibilities here.One. You alternator failed, killing the battery. Replace the battery, test the alternator. You can't test an alternator with a failed battery. Start the car with the new battery, voltage should go up from 12.5ish to 13–14 volt range.Rev the engine slightly (2500–3000 rpm). Turn on all the electricals, lights, air conditioning, etc. If the voltage drops below 12.8 for more than a second, look at replacing the alternator. It should spring back to 13ish.Often alternators will have a modular regulator. Most parts shops can test and determine if the alternator itself is blown, or if it's just the regulator. The brushes may be gone, and are sometimes integral to the regulator. Either way, it's cheaper than a full alternator. If the alternator is bad — doesn't make voltage; or is weak — doesn't hold voltage: then fix or replace it with the battery.Check the feed cables and battery connections on the off chance they're bad. You should do this regardless.Two. This is a low probability. Your battery failed, killing the alternator. This can happen in the case I forget a dead short in one of the cells of the battery, or a near total loss of liquid in your battery. Either way the battery case will likely be distorted, or even cracked. It will have a voltage less than 9. It may even stink of rotten eggs, with a slight taste of chewing on foil.Three. Your mechanic is a liar and a thief who's trying to get more money out of your pocket and into his. If he says that you have to replace the alternator because the battery is bad, this is the case.

Why does the frontline smell like rubbing alcohol?

I bought the Frontline spray from the vet. It works! My dog has no fleas.. But it smells so strong like rubbing alcohol.. This is my first time using it ... So is it supposed to smell that strong of alcohol.. I'm hoping it is... I spent $89 on a 8.5 fl oz bottle ???? Yes i called my vet they didn't help at all..

What can I use on kittens under 8 weeks old to control fleas?

I volunteer for a shelter, and know that fleas are deadly. if you have a serious problem, then I would treat with frontline - but only use a few drops per kitten. at the shelter we do it all the time, and have talked to a merial rep about it and they say it is safe.

if you just found them and they have fleas, you can give them a bath using dawn dish washing soap to kill the fleas that are on them at the moment. This will buy you some time to get them till they are 8 weeks when they can have the full dose of FL.
