Why Do I Have Trouble Swallowing

Trouble swallowing pasta and rice?

Google dysphasia. The site below sounds easy to understand and includes possible causes, symptoms and treatments. The word parts oro (oral) pertains to mouth, pharynx (pharyngeal) is back of throat, and the esophagus is the food tube. Peristalsis refers to the muscle contractions that push the food through the tubes in the body to allow digestion. (dys means bad or painful, and phagia pertains to swallowing.)

Dysphagia, or difficulty in swallowing, is not a disease in itself but a condition that can be brought on by many different causes because swallowing is a delicate process, easily disturbed. Some causes are minor and quickly treatable; others are serious, even life-threatening.

Although it can be as difficult to find the right treatment for dysphagia, as it is to define a precise cause, good treatments do exist for most forms of this condition. Unfortunately, as a recent European study has confirmed, dysphagia often goes undetected and either untreated or undertreated. (continued at the URL below)

I have trouble swallowing?

Having an endoscopy done or even a simple swallow test should be done, just to make sure there is nothing seriously wrong. With steak and chicken those trypes of food are alwasys harder to swallow, especially with fast food beacuse most of the food is processed. Next time try and chew the food for a longer period of time, almost until the food is mushy. You will find that you will get fuller faster without eating as much as you could have, You will also notice that the food will go down easier since the food has been covered with more siliva than normally. This just might be a habbit that you need to try and create if there is really something wrong with swallowing. I know these things as I am in the medical field. I hope this helps!!!

Trouble swallowing? hot liquids?

Man do I feel sorry for your boyfriend... (sorry, I couldn't resist!)
It is reflux action from your esophagus. You likely had a choking issue while swallowing and therefor you fear the possible consequence. Most people suffer from this when attempting to swallow pills, even small pills. It's a mental block that you will need to work to overcome.

Can Diflucan cause trouble Swallowing. ?

Nausea and vomiting are common side effects of Diflucan. You may have gastroesophageal reflux from it, too, and that would explain the problems you are having with swallowing, particularly if you have difficulty with dense solids like bread or meat.
The muscles at the top of the esophagus clamp shut when reflux is present in an attempt to protect the airways from the stomach acid. Unfortunately, it often makes for difficult swallowing.
The solution is to eat several smaller meals per day, chew well, and chase the solids with liquid to wash them down. Alternate solids and liquids until you are finished eating.
Google "reflux precautions" for more info on how to compensate for the reflux. DO NOT take any medicine like Zantac or Prevacid without consulting your doctor or pharmacist. They interact with Diflucan in a very unpleasant way.
